    This is such an amazing and sad scene. Horse, up to this point, had been entirely selfish and didn't take Wammawink or the others as seriously as her own plight. This moment was a HUGE turning point for Horse as a character as she finally understood Wammawink and her concerns. Not only does Horse treat Wammawink kinder from this point on, but she began to become more patient with the rest of the herd too.

      I think there's something you've forgotten about Horse, she's a horse! Not just that, a war horse which are trained since pretty much from the first day they can stand up to only care about and obey their Rider. Also after war I can see her struggling to understand people who don't really seem to take things seriously and go off singing at the drop of a hat. I'm sorry if I'm coming off as harsh but it's hard to go against your breeding.

    That moment after watching this scene a hundred times and it dons on you - she is the ONLY survivor aside from the Tree Shamans. Like, the ONLY only survivor - not even the other children was spared. It was ONLY her. And then you look closer and see that beyond her traumatized, heartbroken expression, there's not a single scratch on her. And then you realize that she probably didn't get hurt because she created a shield to protect herself, but wasn't strong enough to protect the rest of her herd - and she had to watch as they were all taken away while she was left behind.
    And the Tree Shamans just watched. Didn't even lift a branch - because this is what needed to happen.

      @@Conifer_Confetti That may be TRUE - but they are mortal beings who clearly do not comprehend the concept of "what must be done". Not to the fullest extent. They have taught themselves to distance their emotions from others - they will not act to help unless "it is within destiny".
      As a result, they don't even bother to comfort Wammawink. Yes, her family DID need to die; but did they NEED to show her no compassion in that moment? Yes, it led to Horse getting the key piece, but what exactly stopped them from merely telling Horse that it was in one of them? To teach Horse a lesson?
      And you can argue that this was all for the better, which is was! Because Horse DID learn something from all this, and there was a purpose within the story. And yet, as she was attacking one of the two tree shamans, both shamans were confused and afraid as Horse and Ched attacked. They act like they know everything, but don't seem to realize every consequence of their methods. They don't question the very path they "walk" on, or the paths of others - they don't consider the fact that their methods may cause more harm than good...because it needed to happen.
      But DID it need to happen? COULD they have done more? COULD things have gone a different direction? Do they ask themselves these questions, or do they resign themselves to "the inevitable"?

    This is what I feel is the turning point for the show. Up until this point things had been relatively lighthearted and goofy, with the exception of maybe the Taurnado. Even at the beginning of this episode with Wammawink not wanting to go in the woods, you could think it's just some bad history with the Shamans, or maybe she's just scared. But nope, turns out she straight up has PTSD, and thus this scene not only explains why she's so overprotective, but also shows how much she cares about Horse, being willing to trigger herself just so they can get one step closer to her getting home.

    Even though this is a drastic tone shift it doesn’t give you a sever case of whiplash cause before there were a ton of hints, wammawink not wanting to sleep, being terrified of the Forrest in general, so they set this up almost seamlessly which makes the impact hurt more because we were waiting for the explanation rather than it coming out of nowhere.
    The thing that makes this scene work the best in my opinion is not only is it a harshly dark tone its a slow one still accompanied by the bouncy and cute art style this world has. This scene isn’t her village being destroyed as part of the flashback we see what happened after the carnage and can put together what exactly went down on the backgrounds and especially Wammawinks expressions which are just oozing with constant Pain and fear. I mean Christ 0:29 - 0:33 is one of the most gut wrenching things I’ve seen in awhile and only gets harder when you hear her dialogue right after and hear the tree shamans tell her that they wont bring a traumatized child’s family and friends back to her face. There’s so much visual story telling in this scene alone and every piece of dialogue has a purpose and especially an impact.

      The whole asking the tree shamans for help is like praying hoping that maybe a higher power can fix it. Because loads of children probably loose their families in this way and probably immediately ask for their god to bring them back. Only to be met with silence and your loved ones still gone. At least the tree shamans had the acorns to tell it to her face when a god doesn’t have the guts to tell a traumatized child he can’t fix it or won’t fix it. I mean what child wouldn’t want to ask for a higher power to help them? It the sad reality that once you lost someone you can’t bring them back no matter what you do.

    I’m really glad they didn’t wait to give Wammawink’s backstory. Most of the time we see these kinds of backstories near the end of the season or a later season but this just felt right. And Wammawink being protective of her herd and playing the mama the rest of the season doesn’t get a scoff or eye roll, it’s taken seriously. And Horse treats her better the rest of the time which is something you don’t see often when this happens in other shows.

  • @enti
    @enti Před 2 lety +443

    Ok, here goes my theory: Wamawink after loosing everything, roamed all over Centaurworld for years, tried to be a Shaman and failed, and years later she met the rest of the herde when they were younger, even kids maybe, probably they were also orphans or had any other consequence from the war, so she decides to take them in, promising that they will never feel a pain like that again, becoming a motherly figure for them (I also think that Zulius was the first one she took in bc in episode six people called him 'old', and it's kind of obvious that Wamawink is older than him) and then she decided to hide with them and other centaurs inside the dome so they can forget about all their trauma, teaching them and herself that goofy and kinda ridiculous style of life, for them to be happy, and keeping them safe at the same time.
    I know i know, it sounds weird but if this show has taught me something is that nothing's as it seems at the first look, and seeing what they did with Wamawink's backstory just highers my expectations.

    This whole scene left me with questions after finishing the season. We know the war was against the Minotaurs and humans fought alongside the Centaurs in the war thanks to the cave mural. But then how does no one in Centaurworld know what a human is expect for Horse (who is from the human world), the Beartaur (who has the cave mural), and Waterbaby (who has been putting up with the human sorceress)? I'd understand if this happened hundreds of years ago but Wammawink was not only alive but directly effected by the war. How could Centaurworld completely forget it's allies so soon. Also why are there only Minotaurs on the human side of the portal? Season One left me with a lot of question and I can only wait for Season Two to give me some answers.

      I think this WAS long ago. Centaurs are magic we don't know how long they live. For all we know it might have been hundreds of years ago. Woman and general most likely used magicnto survive that long and Shamans probably forbit the talk of humans to older generation that haven't wiped out by the war.

    • @alannatherson7721
      @alannatherson7721 Před 2 lety +5

      Season Two has only made my confusion about the timeline of Centaurworld even greater. Spoilers ahead.
      We now know that the human sorceress was also a princess that was around and already an adult when the Rift was still open and travel between the two worlds was still a common occurrence. Now she does look significantly older, but that doesn't negate the fact that with her even still being alive brings questions about the length of the war and how Centaurworld and the Human Realm have both forgotten about each other. Yeah, that's right the humans forgot too. The only person in the Human Realm who seemed to be aware of Centaurworld is the General, you know half of Elktaur, who was from Centaurworld. No other human knew a thing about Centaurworld or the Centaurs. I can understand Rider not knowing because she's clearly younger and was born into the war, but some of the other soldiers who called Waterbaby a Minotaur don't have the same excuse since their designs clearly make them look older than Rider. So, we have two sides of a war that started and ended within the span of less than in a human lifetime, judging from the Sorceress/Princess, and everyone but the Sorceress/Princess, General, and Nowhere King. No one else knows anything. How did they forget so fast? Also why are Minotaurs only on one side of the portal? We got nothing to answer that question.

    • @liamwhite3522
      @liamwhite3522 Před 2 lety +9

      @@alannatherson7721 To answer a few of your questions, with context from all of Season 2:
      Why are minotaurs only on the human side? Because the human world is the one the General is in, and the Nowhere King wants him to suffer most. The majority of them were likely sent to that side, and eventually the method of creating more minotaurs in built in the human world. Any minotaurs that were on Centaurworld, razing villages and whatnot, probably died out between NK getting sealed up and the start of the series.
      Why doesn't any centaur remember minotaurs, aside from the shamans? Cause they are all dead. Wammawink wasn't spared by minotaurs, she was out of the village, and when she returned everyone was dead. She doesn't know how or by whom, she can hardly believe it when she sees it.
      Why did the humans forget centaurs? Mostly the same reason. The ones who lived to fight alongside centaurs died alongside them, and their replacements weren't given the story of magical goofy beings, because that would be a deadly false hope to give your soldiers.
      How long did this take, anyway? The only confirmation of time we have is 10 years of Elk being trapped by the General before being freed by the Woman. Indeterminate time between that and the closing of the Rift, indeterminate time between that and the start of the show. We can't trust either of the General's or the Woman's apparent ages, as his life is linked with NK's, and she is a skilled magic user in Centaurworld. He is known as The General, and not The King. The memory of him being married to the Princess has also been lost to time. NK could have achieved immortality during his descent into goop form, which would render the General immortal too.

    It's interesting because both the Tree Shamans and Horse are 'right', just from different perspectives. The trees, like it or not, have a point. Had they revived Wammawink's family, then, sure. She'd be happy then. Until the events of the show don't occur and eventually, everyone dies. Moreover, Wammawink as a person becomes stronger, kinder and more selfless so nobody goes through what she did. But horse is also right, because all that is true, but almost certainly would be even if the trees were more understanding and kind. And even if it wasn't, that doesn't make their actions 'good'. The Greater Good doesn't truly justify individual evil, and here Horse, who is a character who has been extremely selfish under the exact same reasoning (she has to fulfil her mission for the good of the world, which is indubitably the 'greater good') comes to realise that and calls the Tree Shamans out on it. But that does beg the questions, was that what she needed? And if so, is that why the shamans acted the way they did. Ah, morality with magic, it's even more complicated than regular morality...

Maybe her mother or father, or sister or brother or someone important to her, thats probably the only thing that remained from them. Didn’t wammawink have like pseudo foresight abilities?? That got me thinking she saw this coming a while ago and every time she had that vision her parents told her it was just a bad dream…

    When I first watched Centaurworld, I didn’t Wammawink as much as I liked the others. Now I realize how much she was harmed, mistreated, ignored in the place that looks the exact opposite than the human world. And the fact she has a herd right now and being overprotective of them is a coping mechanism to deal with all this. She might just be my favorite now.

    2:24 just realised that fur is more purple then hers meaning she might’ve tried to grab her mother/farther before they where taken or killed and only got a handful of fluff that she now holds onto 😭

    That scene was Brutal. It took a glimpse into Wammawink's past for Horse to realize wrong Horse had been being up to that point.

    That minute right ther.
    With the bug.
    I-
    I don't know how to frase it, because it reminds me of social workers.
    I have had some bad experiences with the topic so let me explain.
    You can see that the bug is riding something down, you can tell it's riding down a report of some sort; when wamawink comes close to him he Flys away.
    I- it's hard to explain but that parts hurts me. It like, he has the power to save here but she's just work, a number, the only one left. That's all.
