I agree with that but the way she sings is as if in the love bug form, she sees herself as the soul embodiment of love itself. The statues and the flowers I believe, symbolize the fact that she has an idealistic version of love rather than a realistic version and that’s what kept her going even though it’s more of a naïve view of life. The hate worm version is more when she realizes just how shitty people can be and that love can’t prevail over everything, which is really a reflection on her ego, and how she realizes that she isn’t a sole reason for happiness, or cannot be, and that she can’t fix everything with just love. From what I’ve observed throughout the show is that it’s funny because all of her problems have been 100% her fault and she doesn’t seem to realize that, blaming it on other people and therefore becoming a “hate worm”. The whole portion of the love bug portion of the song just seems very unrealistic in terms of views on love, as if she likes the idea of love itself rather than the actual relationship or process because as seen through the show she hates how it breaks her heart, even though that’s the more realistic version of love. Dumb theory but I think there's a chance Rochelle was born as a hate worm. Of all the lovebugs we see she is the only one who consistently turns into a hate worm, Sonya never has and Emmy and Walter tend to change back rather quickly. When we're first introduced to Rochelle she has been in the hate division for a while, long before getting assigned to Missy and she even goes back to it here in Human Resources. She's also the only love bug to change into and stay as a hate worm independently of her clients. Walter changes as a result of Jessie rejecting Nick, and both he and Rochelle change into lovebugs from Nick and Missy respectively. Here Rochelle changes because of a broken heart and her hatred for hope and her clients suffer for it. Walter and Emmy change from anger and resentment in their personal lives, but both are seen as lovebugs again by the next morning, with Rochelle it seems like hate takes over in a way that is unique to her. For Walter and Emmy being a hate worm is inherently temporary, a surge of rage or a particularly distraught client that tips the scales, but they always return to being bugs. Here Rochelle is genuinely grappling with her sense of self, claiming she was born to spread love but has been hatred all along. I think this can mean she has tried to convince herself that she is a lovebug, but is coming to terms with the fact that she is really and truly a hate worm and her lovebug form is the temporary state.
If this ends up being true, I want her to end up being some sort of in between. She seems to love passion and drama but none of the negative consequences. Maybe she is meant for something like obsession or ambivalence, something to do with loving and hating something at the same time.
When are they going to realize that there will always be different times for different things. Like there will always be a time to love and a time to feel enraged. All I'm saying is that these periods of time won't last forever. Rochelle can be both a Hate Worm and a Love Bug (technically because she litterally be both). As long as these emotions are processed in a healthy manner, then she can change between the two.
