All perfect adjectives for this song, Brandon! The Moodies were such a part of my soundtrack late 60’s, early 70’s……memories of college days….having a few tokes…..😁✌️

Before I realized I was to be an exuberant clown, I thought I might be able to wear the melancholy man mantle, but the mantle was too heavy for my joyous shoulders, and I opted for sweetness and light. I remember that his (Pinder) voice gets washed over by the crowd in the end, with him yelling in a faint distance, "Believe me...". The band is penitentially underrated and overlooked, especially by criticasters whose beings have yet to evolve to a point where they can access internally what the hell is going on under the hood of these paradises lost.

RIP Mike Pinder (4/25/24). He was the mellotron wizard who's contribution to the sixties psychedelic sound was very underrated. He also sings Lost In A Lost World, Thinking Is The Best Way To Travel, When You're A Free Man, and others.

One reason I liked The Moody Blues so much is because they went against the grain and were so different than most of the other bands out there. Of course a band still has to produce rich well done music, and Moody Blues did that for me. Thanks Brandon!

Beautiful example of composition which testifies how much THE MOODY BLUES is so much more than "Nights In White Satin". A single melodic line all in graduation (like a bolero) supported by an almost angelic backchorus which envelops an introspective lyrical framework (hynotic repetition). Thanks.

There really was no other band like the Moody Blues. These guys chose a path of their own in capturing everyone’s imagination. Their beautifully, haunting brand of music in this song as well as many others is what set them apart from most bands out of the 60s. They were truly special. And Brandon if you haven’t heard it yet, I heavily recommend “ Legend of a Mind “ from In Search of the Lost Chord album.
Talk about haunting, it’s a mind trip of its own because of what it’s about. I’ll say no more.

The Moodies 7 core albums, from Days Of Future Passed through Seventh Sojourn, had four vocalists and four songwriters. It's by far their best work during that time period. Thought provoking lyrics and exquisite musicality.

Mike Pinder on vocals and the mellotron. He was one of the masters of the mellotron. He’s not one of the main singers for the MoodyBlues, but he did a few good ones Justin Hayward has been the main beautiful voice of the Moody blues, including on nights in White satin and even though he’s in his 70s now he is still on tour and he still has an amazing voice holding up pretty well for his age.

Check out some of his recent live Tuesday afternoon video series concerts. Really good stuff. He still has an amazing voice into his 70s.

@@bmille2121 The falsetto is John Lodge who sang falsetto on many tracks of theirs. Hayward tends to be overemphasized when discussing the Moodies particularly in the 60s and 70s when all the band members contributed equally.

    • @NYCOPERAFAN
      @NYCOPERAFAN Před 11 měsíci +1

Pinder was absolutely crucial to the band in that period, more responsible than anyone else for their orchestral sound. And in fact he WAS one of the main singers usually composing and singing 2 or more songs per album, just as did Justin, Ray, and John (Graham with the poetry).

Probably my favorite MB song! I love the minor key feel, and the descending scale melody. Gorgeous. And then when they sing both parts together -- I love that effect! The whole supporting instrumentation - rhythm section and synths - is very trance-like.

Justin Hayward is the primary lead singer(Hayward is who you hear on Nights In White Satin) for the Moodies, but, as noted, other band members get their turns on lead vocals

Brandon, my man! This was the best morning wake-up video to see! This is as fine a deep cut you can get. I remember when I bought this album, my friend & I were under some green influence & this song came on! Talk about a 'head space' track! The deepness of the keys, bass & of course Pinder's voice, it just transfixed us!
    One of his finest contributions!
All 5 members contributed (drummer Graeme (RIP) was typically poems, usually recited by Pinder - that deep voice!). Justin Hayward has probably sung the most (and has the most distinctive sound), John Lodge has one of the finest falsettos of the 70's (that's who you hear in the background). Ray Thomas (RIP) had a wonderful voice & songs too!
A very dynamic band!! Great reaction! Cheers

Justin’s “Blue World” from a later album is his melancholy man- type song. Graeme Edge was a pioneer in MIDI drumming. Blue World is set up with electronic drums and a synth cadence by Patrick Moraz, who took over for Mike Pinder in the ‘80’s.

    When all the stars fall
Into the sea and onto the ground
And angry voices carry the wind further
A ray of light will fill your head
And you will remember what was said
To all the good men this world has ever known
It may well be that this is dedicated to the rise and fall of the most destructive fire-based weapons, created in the greatest human fear by ways of science and made tangible by workers in the laboratories of Los Alamos.
