  • Phasing in Revit has been a hot topic of late... In this weeks edition of "Office Hour Sessions" I run through a multi-phase and demolition project our member, Beth-Ann, wanted some help on. I hope you enjoy this Revit Phasing tutorial!

    "Demo is not a phase, is an action".
    First sentence I say every time I need to explain phasing in Revit to someone.

      Haha! Tell me about it!! Maybe if I say it ENOUGH here on CZcams and across all of my platforms it will sink in? ;)

    Thanks a lot for this. Even though i had the mistakes of creating a demolition phase 😂. I figured something was wrong while i was working in revit , but i couldn't tell what it was during the modelling phase

    The simplest way to explain it is by connecting Phases with Time. A Phase is simply a "DateTime" of the Object when it its created and the Demolition is also a "DateTime" when it is destroyed. And by Naming the phase with DateTimes it becomes picture clear what a phase is :) Thank me later :D

    can phases be applied to a legacy model that has present and future projects? in that case, down the road, would we have have multiple existing models?

  • @kevinhicks9447

    I find in some projects where I'm showing demo for the city to understand and for the contractor to know on site. Showing existing building where parts of elevation, plan, ceiling are the final moments in a time for a demo permit makes sense to have a demo phase? At least that's what I have done in the past. I know I could show all this with showing what's being demo but in my case it becomes a phase because there was a stopping point for demo permit.

    • @TheRevitKid
      @TheRevitKid  Před rokem

      You don’t need a demo phase to show existing and demo in a demo plan…? That’s exactly my point in this video. Assign a demo phase does not add a “stopping point”

    • @kevinhicks9447
      @kevinhicks9447 Před rokem

      @@TheRevitKid I get your point. Maybe I'm overthinking it, but I had a separate demo permit to start which included a 3 story office building where the city would quickly approve interior demo but not necessarily the roof and other exterior demo without showing what's replacing it. The demo was started before we had our main permit. Then there was additional demo to the rest of the building with the main permit. At the time and this was 2019, I didn't know how to separate the demo from one another other than creating a phasing plan.

      @@kevinhicks9447 I see … you’re talking about a very specific circumstance in which you have multiple demo phases before any new work starts… that would require specific phasing setup, of course … there’s always some exceptions to the rule 😜

    Is there a way to show the overall demolition condition from existing to the final phase when you have objects demoed in intermediate phases?

    • @TheRevitKid
      @TheRevitKid  Před rokem

      No, the "demo" will only be those objects demolished in your current phase...

    • @holam5897

      Work-around
      Wall = any object
      1. Time-less view = all wall
      2. View: filter: demolished wall in Phase N : as a pick filter
      3. Go to Time-less view, Object Graphic Over-ride, style as you like
      4. Repeat 2-3 with N+1
      5. Repeat 2-3 with N+2

    Phasing gets a bit complicated when you have infills, half walls or try to group stuff.Complex renovation in Revit is prone to making mistakes. (hope someone will adress these difficulties)

    • @TheRevitKid

      Yes and no... As long as you have a plan on your approach, you can get them to work... In groups, yes... can be very challenging!

      @TheRevitKid  Před rokem

      Yes, understanding design options can be a huge benefit as well. Depending on the project I have also used design options to overcome some phasing limitations (mostly when it comes to site modeling).

      Recently had a remodeling project of a house, and use demolition and phases to get data i need, revit helped to much with this tools just need to do a great model of existing building in the begining.

      @@estebanferrera4077 it gets glitchy and somewhat unreliable in some projects. The core code of Revit and some principles are not good thats why you need so many workarounds. I need to be sure i can trust the software.
