    Thanks Jeff this was really helpful! One issue I was having is that the RCS export file type option doesn't appear unless you select 'aerial' as the project type and click the 3D point cloud box. It seems that you were able to export the RCS using the 'object' mode but I'm not seeing this currently in my ReCap for some reason. I did some tests using my drone (DJI Mavic Air 2) using both images taken from the drone and frame exports from the drone video. Even though I shot the video in 4K the quality of the model from the images was better. This takes a little longer to take the individual shots from multiple angles but if you are looking for the best resolution you should use drone images instead of frame exports from video. Also the size of the images was less than the size of the 4k video, plus you then had the size of the images from the frame exports on top of that. The object setting was also better for quality than the aerial setting, though the aerial setting would work fine if all you are looking for is background context...VDC 4 life!

    Ingenious to mimic the drone, thanks for the video. Since this post have you compared pix4d vs drone deploy? I suspect drone deploy is good enough
    I use Matterport for interior and take the Matterport camera outside but have to use it at dusk or dawn (which is annoying), because the UV rays create misalignment. I currently import the Matterport scan into revit and maybe will try to switch to using the drone for outside, so will have two scans in revit. Thanks again for the video.
    I wonder if I should try and fly the drone inside the house lol, just kidding. But the matterport camera is good for that of course.

    • @TheRevitKid
      @TheRevitKid  Před 2 lety +1

      Not really sure... you may have too many photos, or the photos aren't the right path to make a good mesh.... Make sure you use "Object" when uploading and not Aerial.... But the only time I see the error is with either TOO many photos or not a really good set of photos for making a mesh.

I think this would be handy on expansion projects when a 3d model, or even drawings, of the existing structure (that you are adding onto) does not exist. Can these items from a point cloud be used in the drafting, appear on sheets/sections, etc in Revit?

    Question, your onky getting a small area and anything beyond is distorted.
    The main use for something like this is to get a large context model. So maybe you should zoom out, but since your recording at screen resolution the quality would probably be really low. Maybe you can export a few areas and combine them but not sure if that would work.
    What do you think? How would you export a large area without having low quality or distorted?

      There are ways in ReCap photo to set benchmarks (I believe). If not, you could always bring it into ReCap pro and treat it like a laser scan... I don't think you can do it BEFORE they process the images into a mesh... So, it may be a bit of back and forth.

    • @TheRevitKid
      @TheRevitKid  Před 3 lety +2

      All you have to do if you don't have the RCS exporter is simply export to a PTS and then load that into ReCap pro. Once you save that file it is an RCS and you can load it into Revit. As for not having th export to RCS, you'll have to reach out to Autodesk for that, I don't know why I have it and you don't. Maybe try updating the desktop connector, too?

    I'm actually looking forward to see you importing it to revit as a mesh with textures instead of point cloud. Do you have a workflow how to do it? Point cloud is not renderable in Revit.

    • @TheRevitKid

      Yeah I just wish there's an easy way of mapping textures on a detailed site topography. Even autodesk can't give a straight answer.
      We have subscription to Nearmap3D and we can easily download 3D terrain with textures in fbx obj and point cloud but once in Revit the mesh loses the texture.
