  • How to deep cycle water your lawn. MORE INFO → www.howtowithdoc.com/how-to-w...
    Watering your lawn has two basic modes. The standard mode of watering your lawn is a DEEP cycle watering, then a pause to allow it to dry out. This is the watering pattern that most should follow in the spring. During drought conditions, we switch over to more frequent waterings to help our lawn survive the heat and to keep it from going drought dormant. In the video below Doc shows a deep water cycle.
    The general rule for lawn watering is one inch per week. But it's also important to understand how and when to water this amount. It's important to watch the ten day forecast and understand the last 7 days and the next 7 days. if you enter a dry spell in the spring give your lawn a DEEP water cycle.

    Doc, If you look on page 8 of your greenskeeper manual it tells you how to get a cut height of 1 1/2 inches. There are three adjustment holes for the back axle. The mower comes with the axle set in the middle hole from the factory. To get the max height of cut the back axle needs to be set in the lowest of the three holes. If your mower is brand new, you will have to get the chain extension kit which has a half and full link so you can adjust to the lower hole and make the chain reach (or that is what I had to do).

    For the compaction problem why wouldn’t you do the plugs, by using the spikes, although you’re making holes, aren’t you further compacting the soil?

    Great video Doc. Have you considered getting a ProPlugger and plugging some Bermuda (either from your own lawn or a commercial sod farm) into the brown patch areas?

    Hydrawise has cycles built in. you can set a max cycle time and it automatically goes through each zone for the max cycle length until each zone has the required watering duration complete.

    I know Bermuda grass has a deep root system and you have clay soil which holds nutrients. But would you recommend a deep cycle watering for a sandy clay loam soil with KBG? I love the idea of it but am concerned I might flush nutrients past the root zone. What are your thoughts or suggestions?

      I have ST. Aug. I just deep water at night, in the summer. I just do it twice a week and for 30 min once or twice a week ( Mon and/or Thus) long and infrequent. I don't have trees (so no shade) and I mow at 3+ inches..I have never had an issue with any disease or bugs Maybe because it's Texas summers are so hot.. And my St. Aug is beautiful, I get so many compliments.

      In each zone that you’re watering place an empty can of tuna. Run each zone until you’re accumulating one inch of water per week. Best done one half an inch at a time in two feedings over the course of a week.

    • @HowTowithDoc
      @HowTowithDoc  Před 4 lety +1

      It does not RELIEVE the compaction true... but does not cause more. It offers some relief for the turf. i.e. greens are constantly spiked. Core will relieve compaction.
