Excellent! I base that on more than this one project but also knowing how skills can be transferred from working with one material to another. Other skills will be a bit easier to master applying what you already know.

You've been watching videos on how to make a chest rig too, I see. 😊
I would've went with using nylon web straps for multiple reasons. Cheap, strong, quick and easy to replace if frayed or broken. Adjustable (using multiple tri-glides), saves fabric for something else.
I'd use the fabric as a front cover to mate with a soft rip stop fabric backing and fill it with foam or other soft material to make it comfortable to wear heavy gear, yet still color coordinate with the rest of the rig.
I'd also add triple stitch spaced sections on the straps so that I can run locking carabiners, quick links, or other easy to mount equipment.
I'd add an expandable or stretchy lanyard to the compass and run it through one of the spaced sections so it wouldn't get lost when taking it out of the pouch. Right next to the compass or the spaced section would be a pair of ranger beads to keep count of distance traveled.
Did you add drain grommets to the bottom of the pouches?
I'd also iron the chest rig pouches without equipment inside at low heat to crease the sides in an organized way so that the pouches easily fold flat and neat when need to be.

A compass wasn't in the pouch. And I'll let him worry about ranger beads, lol.
The straps are adjustable in the rear, and I probably will experiment with a lighter material to back it, but I was thinking of durability at the time. I put a few inch nylon sections on the straps, that is never a bad idea.

@@bizzlesnach I'm still researching the USGI "H" Gear Harness and other chest rigs to optimize my design.
On the upper back, a panel 3" or 4" x 8" with MOLLE webbing to add a butt pack (with survival equipment or daily provisions) or hydration pouch or make my own removable nylon straps to attach a sleeping bag or something. Foam padding over the shoulder blades and extra soft padding over the spinal column to make sitting at rest more comfortable.
For the chest rig, another MOLLE panel but a bit taller. On the back of the chest panel, a zip pouch for maps (preferably folded laminated).
On one shoulder, an Admin/Compass pouch. Compass in the front seperator; rear separator will be notepad with pen/pencil/marker in elastic holders. And obviously bungee lanyard and Ranger beads.
The other shoulder will have a pouch for cell phone or radio. Larger grommet to run a mic or earbuds. And obviously, drain grommets on all pouches.
As for what to mount onto the front of the chest rig, MOLLE will let me be optional in what I'd need for the purpose. Rifle mag pouch with pistol mag pouch attached to the front. IFAK pouch with TQ attached to the front. Multi-tool pouch with flashlight pouch attached to the front.
Or I can remove the mag pouches to install a tool pouch or anything else.
The stitched strap sections with carabiners would allow me to attach a boonie hat or ballcap, gloves, keys, breathing respirator, glow sticks, anything I need to access quickly and easily.
