This was such a refreshing list! It was really cool to see other games get the spotlight over the more typical answers. Definitely have to give Odin Sphere and Tokyo Xanadu a try. The last one was also a surprise for sure, but as someone who was also there for those days, I completely get it! Plenty of good memories. If I could re-experience just one JRPG for the first time, I think it'd be a tie between Ys VIII and Xenoblade Chronicles (any of them). They're among the few games I've made it something of an annual tradition to replay in some capacity. The world design and the journeys you go on really leave a lasting impression. A few of the Trails games would also be up for consideration. Honestly, there are just way too many good options. I'm amazed you managed to keep the list narrowed down to 5 games!

I totally agree with you on Pokemon! I'll never forget the hype and excitement being a kid from the 90's when Pokemon first became a worldwide phenomena. We also had the Pokemon anime series in the early hours of the morning before going to school, and it was always an utterly fantastic watch before the dread that was school life. I did not expect LR:FF13 here, but great choice. It has my favourite combat systems in FF. And for my own choice, I'd also have to go with Nier: Automata. One of my favourite and best gaming experiences. ♥

Odin Sphere especially, I was a fan of the PS2 game, which was gorgeous but ran terribly, and bought the CE when the remake came out. I never connected with Pokemon. I was out of high school by the time it came it. I played a few hours of Red on a flight to visit family, but it didn't do anything for me. Loving the new closing song btw!
The backlog of doom! Odin Sphere is the physical Vita I missed out on getting cheap! So I'll have been going into Academy (that's like high school USA equivalent I think) when Pokémon was at it's fullest swing, that's probably when I dropped off it. Glad you like the tune!!!

Nier Automata (if it got a PS5 port), Kingdom Hearts 3, Dungeons and Dragons Chronicles of Mystara, Skies of Arcadia, Sudeki, Persona 3 and 5 and Fire Emblem Awakening and Three Houses. Western RPGS I wish I could experience, Fable 1 and 2, Witcher 2, Dungeon Siege 3, Diablo 1, Hexen 1 and 2, Warcraft 3, Divinity Original Sin 2, Mass Effect Trilogy and Darkstone.
If there are any JRPGs I wish I could experience for the first time (again), I'll have to say Harvestella and Octopath Traveler II. The impact of all the plot twists and emotionally heavy moments won't be as deep if I already know what's going to happen. If anyone here hasn't played either game, they need to change that. If we're talking about games in general, regardless of genre... I'd choose to relive To the Moon, Finding Paradise, and Impostor Factory. They're 3 of the greatest stories ever written. The death of a family member is the only thing that could make me cry harder than these games did.

Star Ocean 5!!! And to be honest for a change: Star Ocean 3. One of my favorite games of all time and I was absolutely blown away by it back then. FF14 and Chained Echoes, too - obviously. OH and CROSSCODE!!!!!!!

Oh wow, I played all of these and feel the same way about many of them (especially Nier Automata), but man... Pokemon gen 1 was an absolutely special, life-altering thing for me, too. Nothing in my life since then has had that same impact- for a few incredible years, literally EVERYTHING was Pokemon. While I've gone on since then to appreciate games like the Xeno series as my favorite of all time (-gears through to -blade), nothing has ever really pulled me in as hard as that summer in early 2000 where I spent 2.5 months straight finishing off my RBY and GS Pokedexes. I almost feel bad for Pokemon fans nowadays who will never experience just how crazily big Pokemon was in the late 90s, early 00s.
Hey John, I guess I would agree with you on Pokémon, since I remember how exiting it was to discover a new pokémon and how the evolve, Fun time!! Other than that I would go for the Phantasy Star 1 to 4, I love that story and to rediscover every secret would be a blast!
For me it would be Suikoden 5. I can't really say too much of why, because it's all story-based. Everyone talks about how much they love Suikoden 1 and 2, but I'd honestly put 5 right up there with them - the story really moved me.
Not a JRPG, but for me it would be "Okami". In the JRPG sphere, I would say "Opoona". It's a really weird/unique underrated Wii JRPG. Also the soundtrack is made by Hitoshi Sakimoto/Basiscape. 😁
Great list and some of the newer ones are in my backlog. Two JRPGs that I wish I could experience for the first time are Suikoden 2 and Chrono Cross, two of the best PS1 games hands down.

It’s a good list and I enjoyed the FFXIII trilogy myself 😂 Pokémon is a game that I was addicted two for the first two generations and can never go back to in case it happens again 😅
@@chickenfillets yeah it's a great game with a good/sad story, but it gave me the nostalgic feelings of the old jrpgs while playing it. I started playing lost sphear and that's a great game to. I've been meaning to go back to it as want to finish it to move onto oninaki then I will have completed the Tokyo RPG factory trilogy 🎮😁
