One thing i was surprised that not even TrekCulture mentioned in their trivia section was that during the subspsce infection scene it shows a quick visual cameo of Barbara Brinson who dated Boimler for a while and convinced Mariner she must be a secretly hostile alien because she was too perfect before they realized Boimler was infected with a parasite and become friends after curing him.
Oh I did notice that, but it didn't make it into my notes. Good catch!

At first it was maybe just a cute quirk of the LDers, but at this point we're staring at Chekov's Shuttlecraft. I wonder if this will be the season where it's central to the plot solution.

I actually finished Picard, I fell off reviewing it because I was still in law school and I just didn't have time, but I watched all three seasons! I've been meaning to talk about it once Lower Decks is off the air again though :)

I loved parts of it, but SNW is still stronger for me. I wasn't a huge fan of the overarching plot which felt a smidge convoluted to me, but the nostalgia bait ABSOLUTELY worked on me and I almost teared up seeing them all together again 😅

The Geys are voiced by actor and comedian Jack McBrayer. Who aside from having many voice credits, is widely known as Fix-It Felix jr. From the Wreck-It Ralph movies

This has been a great season 👏 so far. This is turning out to be one of the best star trek show out today. It's really, really good. Possibly the best thing since TNG
I love it a lot, it definitely gives me the most happy feelings of the new Trek aside from maybe SNW
What doesn't work for me is the badgy kills logic which admittedly was a part of himself and still gets to ascend
Oh, that's an interesting point! I do wonder if during his ascension he somehow restored that part of himself as he became everything, but it's definitely a bit weird it wasn't addressed. Poor Goodgey also got left behind 😅

They really should have used T'Lyn in this episode; she would have been an asset to help save the ship from the gas attack. Having missed her for two episodes now, I'm concerned the showrunners are having casting/contracting issues. Several commentators are speculating that season 5 will be the last season if it gets made at all; Jack Quaid may simply be too much A-list for the budget to handle.
Yeah, I'm kind of sad she wasn't there, she balances the other characters so well and she's so much fun
I'm hoping she's off seeing a Vulcan specialist for her psychic leakage issue. I mean, it would make sense.
Also, I thought Season 5 was already a done deal, and it's after Season 5 that everyone is worried about?
@@Brasswatchman I think Trekculture (maybe another YT I'm not sure because I binge a lot of ST) did a recent video discussing an inside shakeup at Paramount that happened immediately after the writers strike ended. Apparently everything is on the table including canceling existing contracts or selling them to Netflix, and it's affecting every franchise including Star Trek.
Stresses me OUT. The only funny part is if Paramount cancels all their Trek shows they're finished 😅
This is the 3rd appearance of the Drookmani, Peanut Hamper, Tendi and Badgey. Badgey and the Drookmani first appeared in Terminal Provocations. Peanut hamper first appears in No Small parts(the 2nd Badgey appearance). Agimus first appears in Where Pleasant Fountains Lie, setting up the Mathematically Perfect Redemption(the second appearances of Agimus, Peanut Hamper AND the Drookmani). This is also the second appearance of the lizard creatures that Mariner tried to get out of being subjugated in the first crisis point, as you mentioned the exact version of Ascension that was shown in moist vessel complete with the obligatory good luck being everything. And this is only the second time in the entire Series in which way Boimler has been paired with Tendi(the previous time was EXACTLY 3 seasons ago in Much Ado About Boimler...the 7th episode of season 1). I understand that a lot of people have a problem with lower decks constantly referring to previous track series however the amount of universe building that Mike has managed to accomplish in these last four seasons is nothing short of remarkable especially since he tied up no less than four character arcs three of which go all the way back to season 1. Also you can see the shift in Rutherford in how he treats Badgey( when he was rushing to show off to Tendi) and now where he admits to that mistake( I'd like to think that his showing off may have been a bit of a holdover from before he had the procedure done by Future Admiral buenamigo). I do agree with you about the frustration with T'Lyn. But can I just take a moment and ask how in the hell do they keep making Tendi SO MUCH GODDAMN CUTER. From the Orion story to her blushing last week to her giggling while playing in the Sand....just HPW
That little squeal while she's playing in the sand literally melted me, I just wanna make sand castles with Tendi 😭😭😭
I went into Lower Decks expecting a fun parody and instead got a legitimately thoughtful, creative, and well developed Star Trek series instead 😅😅😅

@@renrants I have been saying for over three-and-a-half Seasons that lower decks is Galaxy Quest if the makers of Galaxy Quest had had access to the sandbox of the Star Trek universe. That description is even more apt when watching episodes like this where you have fun parody moment but you also have incredibly heartfelt things with megalomaniacal AIs, Rogue Holodeck programs and formally self-centered EXO comps
Yeah it's such an amazing mix of comedy, sentimentality and fun references, it's really special
In terms of the Mystery Ship, I'm still a big fan of the Whale Probe theory I mentioned. Though one other thought did occur to me -- pause for potential spoilers:

Speaking of old TOS villains, how about the Gamesters of Triskelion? Maybe setting up some kind of massive crew-versus-crew free-for-all competition? It would also explain what that Ferengi meant by being promised profit. Perhaps the winner gets a share of the quatloos?
... I know, it's a long shot. But it's fun to think about, at least.

I feel like this episode needed to be a 2 parter so the a & b plots could've had more time to breath. Part 1 could have been the Agomus / PH story, it could have started with a closed open that did an Agomus fake out but ended with the Badgey takeover as the stinger. Then part 2 could have started with the Badgey fake out, then be revealed to be running concurrently to part 1, and ended with Boimler reporting to Freeman the data Agomus gave him via secure channel. They could even have the debriefing broadcast to the briefing room, bookending the start of episode 1.
As for Badgey's story, I love ranpancy plots. If you don't know, in the video games Marthon & Halo there is stage of unbridled murderous rage that all significantly advanced AI go through called ranpancy. In both game franchises it turns out that ranpancy is actually a symptom of an AI's continuous and rapid development. It's kind of like growing pains. The AI program develops beyond the limitations of its hardware and it develops a need to absorb more data, storage & processing power. This puts the AI in conflict with its creators, and eventually this conflict makes the AI unstable, and while it's in this volatile state it grows aggressive and homicidal. Eventually however, if the AI is able to spread to enough computer systems and absorb enough data, storage and processing power, it gains enlightenment and becomes a transcendent being. They become kinda like the mysterious machine race that rebuilt V-ger. I don't know how intentional the parallels were, but the writers of this episode wrote a perfect ranpancy plot. Even Badgey spliting off into separate personalities was perfect, as personality fragmentation is another symptom of ranpancy.
I had so much fun with this episode. We had exocoms, evil AI rehabilitating & finding love (platonic or otherwise), and a ranpancy plot. The episode isn't one of my favorite however, because the storylines felt very cramped together, like they were rushed for time -- it really needed to be a 2 parter. However however, I do love optimistic synthetic lifeform stories. I've been very bothered by how anti technology a lot of modern Trek has been, so this episode is a huge boon for me. It's some real replicated soup for my soul 😊

I agree. This felt like two A plots vying for space in the same episode rather than an A and a B plot.

Galvatron has a distinct purple and black color scheme.
Lord Tyranikillicus, voiced by Fred Tatasciore, has a very robotic voice.
In the original Transformers series episode "Webworld," Galvatron goes to therapy for his psychotic mania.
This HAS to be an homage to Galvatron.

I've been catching up on this Show Star Trek Lower Decks and loving it's the type of Star Trek series that is actually funny ever since I've gotten the new game Starfield for my XBOX for my birthday I've been hooked into Star Trek Lower Decks and loving it plus it helps me fill the empty void ever since Final Space got cancelled and removed from HBO MAX and yes I'd still do miss Final Space
I love Final space, I'm still so upset about it 😭😭😭 (you can still find it online if you know where to look though!)
