    The sandwich story is easily the worst one for me. There are so many signs that everyone created an opening to trash on OP and his eating problem. They ate all yhe wings without even thinking of leaving any for him. They knew the sandwich was out and anyone with a brain knows that sandwiches wont be as good after an hour of being left out, but even then no one stopped him from eating it and let him do it. Then when he offered to get more food, they insult him and say its not good enough

      Its either that, OR Alan's family is really on his case about his eating problem, and it sounds like the girlfriend from the party, who called him a pig, is besties with Alan's sister. Maybe Alan's sister has been complaining to her friend about Alan and the sister and her friend are just using this situation to try and shame him into correcting his eating issues. The only issue with it is the fact he didn't ask, but even then I feel like he did everything right after. Like I totally get it, I can't eat that much food but I can easily down one of those Walmart 2ft long subs. I usually only get 6 inches because they're always for groups. If there's extra I just ask if everyone who wants some got some, ask how much they've had, and help dish it out or whatever before I finish the rest. If I didn't ask or do any of that I feel like the perfect response is to pay for how much I ate, get food, basically what he offered.

    For Angela’s… analogy:
    If you have a pool and your friend, who doesn’t have a pool, says they don’t think they can swim. If you, with a pool, say, “I can and you can too.” You then prove your point by kidnapping them and throwing them into your pool. They, in fact, can swim. Yes, you were correct, but how you proved your point without acknowledging both your relationship and the difference in your resources is what puts you in the wrong.

    About the twin story: Triplets are most often a set of identical twins and a fraternal triplet, so it is absolutely reasonable that one of them would not share all of the same traits. ADDITIONALLY, skin color is not a simple punnett square situation in the way something like eye color might be. Somewhere upwards of 300 different genetic expressions contribute to melanin production and skin color. Skin color can also change and develop until a child is around two. The range for phenotype variability when it comes to skin color, especially in biracial children, is very significant.

    • @lina9535
      @lina9535 Před 6 měsíci +56

      Thank you!! Finally someone who knows how things are!
      The punnet square isn't accurate to eye colors anymore either. I think there is like 20-ish different genes that can determine eye color.
      It was something like the BB, Bb, bb still works, but you can have a person with BB (brown) that has blue or green eyes, same with the other two. The percentage is low, but it happens.

    • @ettinakitten5047
      @ettinakitten5047 Před 5 měsíci +27

      @@lina9535 Yeah, for example both the OCA2 and HERC2 genes contain recessive alleles that can cause blue eyes. So if two blue eyed people with blue eyes due to the same gene have kids together, all the kids will be blue eyed, but if someone with HERC2 related blue eyes and someone with OCA2 related blue eyes get together, and neither of them carry an allele for blue eyes in the other gene, they will actually have 100% brown-eyed kids. However, most blue eyed people of European ancestry are all descended from the same person who had a HERC2 mutation, so that's why we thought it was a single gene trait for so long.

However, clearly people noticed and also didn't say anything--people that were sniffing out blood and waiting for an opportunity to pounce. Even after his so-called friends berated him and dog piled, he did the right thing: he offered to pay them back for it after it was made clear he wasn't meant to eat as much as he did, they said no, and that was that.
      I hope he finds better friends who don't put him down. They all just sound like pretty privilege brats who were looking for a reason to jump on the big guy.

    Another thing with the artist friend story, the artist was selling prints on a site! Buying those prints and then selling them (in a place where you could potentially do this repeatedly) is also a jerk thing to do when you could instead just go "yeah my friend made these, you can buy them on her site!" It proves that the op was more interested in money than the friend from the very beginning

      No, no, no. The point was to get the artist to see their worth and help them profit by showing what the market value could be. If all they did was redirect people to the website then there is no incentive for the artist to change their pricing.
      OP was an asshole by not telling the artist beforehand and by not sharing the profits. Gallery prices are generally higher than online prices because the galleries usually take a cut for displaying the work, the crowd exposure is also different, and the art sold in galleries are usually one offs or limited runs which fetch higher prices due to the scarcity.
      If I was op and I did that, I mean, I wouldn't because it's dishonest, but for sake of argument, I'd subtract what I paid initially including shipping, plus any other fees, and I would give the profit to the artist. That's how you make it fair. If the artist wants to provide OP with work to continue selling, then they can work out a seller's fee.
      It's the initial lying by omission and not sharing the profits that are the real problem.

People are allowed to have boundaries about their partner making fun of them to other people. If it makes them uncomfortable/insecure then you should just respect that. It's not an "overreaction" to not want your gf to make you the butt of the joke to the entire friend group, over something that is a touchy subject for you. Some people are OK with that, but lots of people aren't. He expressed it in a very reasonable and healthy way, he wasn't mad at her, they talked it out, that should be the end of the story. Yeah. I feel like that might be one of the more complicated stories on here. As long as it's not an unreliable narrator situation, there's a lot of possible factors.
      On the one hand, having kids is (usually) a conscious choice, and so you have to expect to lose a lot of your free time to them, especially when they're that young.
      On the other hand, I feel like people are over-valuing the importance of Christmas being celebrated on the exact right day. If Christmas was really the first time in 3 years that all his old friends were going to be online together, I don't see the harm in possibly celebrating Christmas on Christmas Eve or the 26th, as it's probably going to be another number of months or years before those friends are all together again. And speaking as someone who most strongly connects and opens up to people while playing games with them (digital, tabletop, or otherwise), playing together with people can be something a lot more than just trying to rack up ranks for a few hours.
      Overall, I think the whole issue could be avoided by just having an open and honest conversation a week or so ahead of time to figure out the best way for everyone to be happy.

It was so frustrating and alienating as a child to have your familys existence constantly scrutinized and invalidated.

    • @Just1Nora
      @Just1Nora Před 3 měsíci +5

      That is so incredibly rude and insulting! The fact that people don't understand that genetics goes farther back than the parents is crazy. There are 23 chromosomal pairs in the human genome; skin color, eye color, hair color and texture, height and build, etc are also determined by more than just one pair each. Plus, just because a certain trait is dominant it doesn't mean that the child can't receive a recessive trait. Less likely, sure, but not impossible. Like Chanse's hazel eyes.
      The more diverse that the parents' backgrounds are the more options are possible for the children. It could even be as far back or farther than a great grandparent of a different ethnicity or skin tone.
      It's so shitty that people thought that a) it was something your mother would do, b) thought it was something to think or discuss, and c) something they felt was appropriate in the slightest to say to her or you guys. Sometimes the stupid and hurtful things that come out of some people's mouths astound me.

    The story about Alan always upsets me. His "friends" are the assholes in that story. I feel so bad for him. Up front he made a point of saying he thought he had a problem, meaning his eating habits and weight are already weighing him down and making him upset. Then to turn around and have people you thought cared about you stomp on you while you're already feeling low, over food no less, is insane to me. You should NEVER be denied food, you should never be punished for eating or have food used as a punishment/weapon against you, and to feel like you are compelled to "make this up to them" by buying more food is insane after they neglected to eat it for it that long. I really hope Alan has a better support system now.

It was like the holiday was more important than her birth so I understand why he doesn't want to do a lot of Christmas stuff. I understand that not everyone thinks like that but at the same time the birthday should just be as important as the holiday. I've heard this story several times, and I think I finally put my finger on why his friends clearly seem like the asshole to me here.
      There is one thing that you could maaaybe reasonably criticize Alan for, which is being inconsiderate of the fact that other people might want the food. You could also argue he was considerate by bringing food for everyone and also waiting for an hour before getting more, but there's at least some merit to the idea that eating more than your "fair share" is inconsiderate.
      But once Alan instantly acknowledges that he messed up, apologizes profusely, and offers to go get food to replace the food he ate, he's clearly shown that he regrets his possible lack of consideration and is trying to be considerate by doing anything he can to rectify the situation. If you continue to berate him as a pig beyond that without any regard for his feelings, then you're saying the problem wasn't that he was inconsiderate of you; you just don't like his eating habits and his body, and you have decided to make your opinion his problem. At that point, I feel pretty comfortable saying those "friends" are the assholes, and they can fuck off.

    I agree with what y’all said about every story except COD on Christmas. Everyone saying it was a shitty thing to want to do obviously doesn’t have a holiday birthday. As someone with a birthday on Valentine’s day, his story really hit home. Having everyone get their own day growing up and then experiencing loved ones completely ignore or deprioritize yours is a heart wrenching thing and you want to do something nice for yourself on a day celebrating you. He never said he doesn’t want to spend Christmas with his family, and you’re all right about the timing (that he can do it after Christmas morning, which he later confirms in an edit). As for moving your birthday to a different day, I can understand that’s a good solution to someone without a holiday birthday, but to those of us with one, it just feels like further dismissal of the importance of the occasion. Celebrate Christmas and then play COD with the boys. Do something nice for your birthday with people who understand and love you

It would be hard on christmas, but its his birthday and the fact is its importsnt to HIM. Then discuss the whole day, when and where everyone is, what the wife needs him to do before he starts playing, and the expectation if the wife needs his help. If you truly respect each others and the needs of each other, you will make room at the table. This is true before this actual incident! If he respects her needs before, she would be more likely to not put her foot down. If he saw her needs and made time for her to have alone time, she may have been way more supportive. If she saw his needs for connection and the load that dads carry, she can meet him half way.
    I may get some heat for this but i will die on the hill of respect each others needs in a marriage. I too often see one or the other being neglected in the name of "well my needs arent being met".

    55:13 I would be chill with it, It’s clear besides this he’s a supportive, caring and helpful dad, the 1 day besides fathers day, which tbh is also often more about the kids and being with the children is shared with this big important family day so he rarely gets free time to be with friends or have a social life outside his kids. I think it’s understandable and reasonable for him to want to do this one thing, especially when most of his childhood would have been about siblings or other people and he would rarely get a chance to have partys as friends would also be with family. Forcing him to have his birthday a different day also implies that your wants are invalid and less important. we also don’t get a timeline for how long, so if he wants to play for an hour or two then he could suggest his wife have time to do something for herself after while he looks after and plays with the kids.

Sometimes when I’m too tired i do end up letting him clean up after me but i don’t enter the kitchen then and just deal with whatever the next day. And i don’t like him helping with the prep either, he’s can cut stuff up but i like to have them precise, I’m very particular about prepping as it affects the cooking process a lot. For the selling the friends art one; if was it really about proving a point, why did the artist have to find out about it from other friends? For OP to be proving a point about how much the artist could sell their prints for, wouldn't they have had to tell their "friend" about the sale?

      So MUCH yes. To me, this isn't teaching a friend a lesson, because otherwise the poster would have been much more upfront about it. This was about exploiting a friend's vulnerability (most artists' vulnerability, tbh, artists that are good at pricing their own work are fecking unicorns) for cash and then getting angry when people expect you to prioritize your friendship over your profits.

      It kind of removes special friendship meaning when she charges her friend the exact same amount she would a random person. Then theres the part where if it was really about friendship, she would have chewed her friend out about selling the art... no, instead she demanded her friend give ALL the money for it. Seems to me like greed and not understanding how ownership works. She truly thinks that it's still HER art after it's sold. I'll ask what Shane asked... is $300 worth ending their friendship over? They didn't mention friendship.. they wanted MONEY. For the artists, it was money over friendship.
