I make my butter in a mason jar, but I let my cream warm to about room temp before mixing. It’s a game changer. It becomes butter much faster!
I also always save the buttermilk for chicken. The acidity tenderizes the meat. :)
After you rinse the butter, let it come to room temp and you can add anything to it at that point to make compound butter. Like the garlic and herb and just mix it in. But make sure it’s room temp or it’ll be impossible to mix it. Super easy though :)
Why do you have to rinse the butter?
You should try beeswax wrap and a bread box for your bread!! It’s a game changer!
You can harvest potatoes when they start to die back. There’s still room in those bags for more dirt! Keep adding until you can’t so you get more potatoes.

Neem oil for the bugs. I would also prune the leaves on the tomatoes and cucumbers so energy can be redistributed towards producing the vegetables.
I love making fresh butter and YES girl thank the Lord I have a stand mixer. When I make just plain salted butter I add my salt after the final rinse and that's when I add any other flavors as well. I also keep mine in a butter keeper on the counter so it stays nice and spreadable.

I'm loving all this home goods/gardening/cooking content, it's right up my street (although I'll always enjoy an SRV haul) and just so wholesome❤. I saw an Irish lady making butter, and she just sprinkled salt over the butter when she'd shaped it into a block with those paddle things, then wrapped it in greaseproof parchment stuff. Anyhoo, love to all, hope Solomon had a fab birthday (oh and well done J on that biscotti, I tried to make some years ago and it was a dismal failure 😂)

I love the kitchenette in the basement!!! Picking out flooring seems so tedious, I would need someone to choose it for me, because I would've picked something dark, to have a super dark moody kitchenette. I can't wait to see what you come up with. I love your basement so much!!!
Girl ain't nobody needs to tell you anything about that lovely garden! It looks amazing...I hate the worms they make me squeamish LOL last year a fat moth caterpillar with little horns ate my ENTIRE jalapeño plant along with the peppers in about 4 hrs! They are fat and green, my son saved him as I tried to kill him...I didn't know that they turn into a beautiful exotic moth! He should've stayed away from my peppers! LOL LOL

SARAH! You need a butter bell for sure, it's quickly become one of my favorite kitchen products! It uses water as a seal to help keep it fresh on the counter 😊

Do you have a food saver? One of those vacuum seal things.
That's what we do with pre-sliced homemade bread, then just reseal after taking out more slices.
But personally, I just cut off what I need and that helps it stay fresher longer for us.
Add salt after you rinse it. If you add it before you just wash the salt out of it. Harvest your potatoes when the greens turn yellow and drop over. Spray a mixture of vinegar and dawn in water to get rid of your bugs naturally. My most hated chore is putting laundry away. I will do it all day long but I hate putting it away.

Super cute gift idea, especially for Birthdays and Father's Day! I might use the cricut to make a sticker for the front that says Papa's Snacklebox!! 🖤🖤🖤 I'm loving J with the homemade biscotti as well! That's super sweet of them. My Daddy always preferred homemade gifts over store bought!! I remember one year me & my oldest baked him a cake. Well, we decorated it, made it all cute, and we were SO STINKING PROUD of our cake! We brought the cake to him at work, sang him Happy Birthday with his employees, and then I realized I had actually gotten him & my mom's age mixed up, and that I had wrote the wrong age on the cake!! 😂 🤦🏼♀️🤣🤦🏼♀️🤣 Cue the, "Horrified looks from everyone in the room!" song!! 🤣🤦🏼♀️I joked & said my oldest must've done it!! 😂 My Daddy was like Aiden, who wasn't even two years old at the time, can't even count that high yet, so I know he dang sure didn't write the wrong age on there!! 🤣🤦🏼♀️😂🤦🏼♀️🤣 My Daddy was my best friend, and we made so many unbelievably amazing memories together.

My two oldest are 4 years apart....11 and 7 now....I do not give them enough chores. I find my 11 year old is much more capable of doing things than my 7 and 5 year old. But you've motivated me to find tasks for all of them! I've been doing everything for 11 years and its getting to be too much for me. 🤯
Battling the caterpillars in Iowa right now. Naturally, pick them and squish them (put them in a container with a lid that you can throw away) or they will find their way back. I use "Neem" oil on all veg that has "bugs" and have had success. The oil needs to go on all parts of the plants and the soil too. Kids chore..... $0.25 for every caterpillars from the deck plants.. Haha!
I think your children are well behaved and respectful. I've been watching Supernanny and have seen some real issues with children being well behaved and respectful of their parents and others, and I think the chores you give your children are good 👍

My 2 year has to straighten up the shoe area and take anything to the trash that I give her. She also helps put laundry in the washer/dryer (after I have sorted it). The 7 year old has to keep his room clean, vacuum his room, fold up the couch blankets, wipe the tables and take the trash out (and to the curb).

You could get boujee in the basement and do heated floors 😍. We had that in our bathroom in Wisconsin and it was soo nice in the winter.
Another option for flooring can be a light wood-look tile ☺️

Marigolds are a good natural bug repellent to plant near or in the same bed as your fruits and veggies. Doesn't repel all, but a good majority
When I make bread if u wrap in aluminum foil righty even a few layers then put in freezer bag and free the day you make it but completely cooled when u take out atleast 3-4 hours for your size the day you want and slice it will be completely fresh like you just made it! Fresh bread goes stale super quick since there’s no preservatives in it .

try finding a local film store to develop your film. they do a MUCH better job, they usually will give you a flash drive with the scans, and you can choose to have prints made as well. it also support small business!! but fr they do much better than walgreens

Sarah, with your potatoes, they will flower and ten the green plant part will die. You stop watering them so they dry out fora couple weeks and then dig the potatoes out.

I was told to not cut the bread until you eat the slice you cut. Like don't pre cut it. I've noticed a difference in the freshness. I've seen people get bread keepers, I just haven't tried any yet. 😊
Yeah, that would ideally be the way to go I think - but one thing I’ve noticed about my household… if I don’t cut it, they won’t eat it. That literally goes for everything haha fruit, veg, bread, etc.

A suggestion for your sourdough…..before baking spritz with a water bottle and put sesame seeds or everything bagel seasoning all over the outside….so so good!!!! ❤
I am not a bug girl either. I use tongs to grab caterpillars. The cabbage ones are nothing. You need to be checking your tomato plants for horn worms. They will decimate a tomato plant and they are gross. Use a blacklight at night to spot them easily. Always throw caterpillars into a bucket of soapy water because it kills them so they can't change to moths and butterflies and lay more eggs on your plants. I love green stalks! I have three. Good luck!!!

Ok I scrolled for a while and didn’t see anything. So the potato’s when the plant looks dead and is falling over that’s when they are done growing and you can pull the plants and get the potato’s. You can leave them until the ground freezes and as long as it doesn’t great crazy hot for a long time they should be fine in the ground. So if your short on time your fine waiting a week or two.

You can always dig at a spot til u see a potatoe to look and see if it’s the size u want there will be many in there you’ll be surprised!they will still be different sizes but it will give you an idea

I agree with one of the commenters; beeswax wrap and a bread box! I got one of those cute bread boxes that has windows, so you can see what you've made for the week. It's like my own little pastry/bakery counter. XD But yeah, you can actually totally make butter by just shaking it vigorously in a jar, and it doesn't take long at all. I think it took me about fifteen minutes when I made butter like that. It never ceases to blow my mind the amount of things you can do/make/grow at home with minimal store bought things.
Also, I'm sorry, but I started snort/laughing at the unholy scree when you turned the leaf over and DUN DUN DUN, CATERPILLAR! Haha XD The bugs don't bother me (I grew up in the country), but the one thing that still scares me, even though I know they only bite when you -really- make them mad, are the garter snakes. I ran into one in my garden the other day whilst weeding, and I'm pretty sure I gave my retired neighbors a heart attack with the screams of bloody murder I let out, ahaha
