Pectin is fiber from ripe fruits so it's all natural and safe to use. Also, that is an eastern carpenter bee. Def don't mess with them (they're very aggressive and apt to bite and sting) but keep an eye on your deck because they can damage wood structures.

I'm so happy to see you happy trying new things and becoming a "homesteader"! Pectin in natural, it is extracted from citrus fruit peels. It really makes a difference in making jelly and jam. My best friend's mother would make jelly out of everything, even watermelon rind jelly. As a half breed, first yankee in the family born on the nothern side of the mason dixon line, pop overs were a regular. Try resting your batter before pouring into your pan(like making crepes). Also, try getting a "popover pan" they are amazing using this. They are taller and then you can break them open and put your gravy inside. I've even been lazy and made them in a rectangle pan. As long as your pan is hot and you heat your "fat" hot enough, it should sizzle when you pour in your batter. You are doing a great job!

Forgot to mention Sarah when I left a comment. About your oven temp, for some reason ovens seem to be calibrated all differently. Get yourself an oven thermometer, set your oven for whatever temp on the outside and see what the temp is registering inside on thermometer inside that way if it's not the exact same temp you can adjust the heat on the outside!! Mine is 25' degrees off so if I'm baking something that needs like 350' degrees I set my outside oven button to 375'. All depends how much the oven is off. Hope it helps....❤

With my popovers I add chunks of cheese and if I use a muffin tin I do every other opening, but when I use the popovers pan I use all of them. Also for your jam keep your jars in extra hot water and flip your jar after you fill no pectin needed. Lastly for your starter watch it closely my first one chef kiss second spoiled so fast. Awesome job on your new phase.

I live in Newfound and popovers/yorkshire puddings are super common here. I grew up in New Brunswick and after my now hubby introduced me to them, I also became obsesses. I'm now the person who makes them for family dinner events. You def want the high temp for the first 15ish min, that is what makes them rise, the lower temp is just for once they've reached all the height they can, to finish cooking without burning. The pan should be filled as quickly as possible and put back in the oven so it stays hot. Most people put oil (olive or a veg oil) in the bottom of the pans before they to in to get hot. Just need a little bit, barely enough to cover the bottom. The batter should start to sizzle when you start pouring. And you want them to have holes in the middle, they're mainly rising on the outer part. Not the end of the world if they don't have holes tho. I wish I could add a pic of some I've made lol. You're doing alright tho with everything being room temp. I've never used a blender to mix it, usually just do it by hand or sometimes use my immersion blender. Have fun with it! Oh, if u wanna enjoy them leftover (if theres any left lol) but they've gone soft (which they do) pop them into the oven at 400F or so for a few min, just right on the rack. Crisps them right up nicely again!

Also pectin is a naturally occurring starch (in fruits and veg) its not a "chemical" so if you buy pectin it has been extracted from fruit generally. It is the best for set jam/jelly. You can add some fruit high in pectin (lemons, apples etc) but if you want to thicken without affecting flavour, I would advise just add pectin

Pop overs are like Yorkshire puddings- you have to work fast to fill the tray when you take it out of the oven. You should also keep the temp hot as it traps the air in the mixture, otherwise they go heavy and eggs. Popovers should be a rich deep golden brown so don't be nervous about leaving them in

Good Morning/Afternoon! I am just catching up on your Vlogs! I love the green thumb era we are currently going into! I myself have started the same thing and am curious on if you built the raised garden beds or if you purchased them and if so where!? I love them and NEED some so I can start my veggies outside.
