But it was dumb the way how she was. I can see why they did it. But it kills the message kara's story was trying to send off. About an android being a mother figure for a child. So I find the who alice being an android pretty dumb and bad

    • @catnat6571
      @catnat6571 Před 5 lety +123

I agree with the "Kara's storyline would have had a much bigger impact on players if Alice remained a human." However, this created a plot-hole that was unavoidable: Kara and Alice getting captured. Sure, we could have it where only Kara gets captured and Alice in detainment, but that would also leave too many loose ends. For example, what if you killed Todd? Would Alice go back to the mom that left her? What would become of her? If Todd is alive, and he's heading to Canada (as seen in the route that Kara and Alice make it to the bus), what would happen to Alice? Would she go back to her abusive father? As for Kara's side, what would happen with her? Kara was with Alice the whole game and all of a sudden it separates them? That's almost as jarring a change as Alice being an android. Not to mention the whole sequence where Kara looks for Alice would never happen, or the needed distraction to get to her. An entire part of the ending rendered useless because Alice was human. Or if the cops shoot Alice and Kara outside of the ship? Would we have just watched a child murder?
Listen. I agree with the "Kara's storyline would have had a much bigger impact on players if Alice remained a human." But there are just too many complications if that were true, whereas we could take the jarring, but an easier twist that allows the story to follow through regularly.
Anyways, that's just my two cents. Take it however you want, but that's my opinion.

    Sins in this video:
-The hostage taking Android went deviant from realizing the family he thought loved him would replace him, not that he would be shut down.
-Todd would treat Alice like a human, as he bought her to do just that. Why do you think she doesn't have an LED? She is there to replace the daughter his partner probably took.
-The economy of a futurescape with robotic labor available for any profession is not worth speculating about, let alone making claims for.
-You should sin the product, not the fact that David Cage directed it.
-The fact that the bus driver doesn't force Kara to the back of the bus implies that it is not actual segregation. The android compartment is probably to save space and not fill up seats with beings that don't experience comfort or personal space. But if they are needed on the bus itself, such as when an android is chaperoning a child, they are allowed there.
-Yet again, your hate for David Cage blinds you to the merits of the game itself.
-The point of fat people being bad is undercut by the fact that Rose exists.
-Kara's story is there to show the impact Connor and Markus have on an average person. If Markus is violent, it's a lot harder for them.
-Self destruction doesn't seem to be a non-deviant feature. It was not intended.
-Deviants would self destruct on having their memory probed.
-Kara couldn't use Todd's account without revealing her location.
-Public transportation may be free in a futurescape like this game.
-Hank gets away with what he does because of his past in the force and with the chief. Not that it's a great plot point, but it's not ridiculous.
-Alice's mom left. Implying that Alice should have a connection to her still is unfounded.
-The Jericho people don't seem surprised by the warehouse plan. They just didn't attempt it until Markus convinced them.
-Kara was located not after escaping Todd. The tracker could have explained that.
-Connor specifically doesn't tell Hank that it is an android sex club. Hank is surprised by it when they get there.
-Not a sin, but I agree that Markus's weird power of mind control and deviancy creation is weird.
-Child androids designed to replace children probably have fever programs. They get cold and uncomfortable, or at least pretend to be, so why wouldn't they imitate illness?
-The graphiti vandalism is an impulsive act by Markus. The plan was just to free androids in stores.
-Kamski was fairly hidden. Hank could've started the search for him as soon as he was put on the investigation.
-Kamski was testing if Connor specifically was deviant and had empathy. He is unconcerned about the Chloe, and doesn't think she is deviant.
-Markus can definitely die. Many times. As can everyone else.
-Reviewing the evidence is a last ditch effort, probably not the first time they've done that. It's all Connor can think to do to solve it however.
-A small part of Jericho exploded, causing it to sink. The explosives were just in one room. This is explained by all of them just saying it will force them to evacuate, not kill them.
-This game has cliches and plot holes, but not nearly as many as you imply.

@@Josh0639 I wouldn't say anyone could do it or it would've happened in the game prior. Something that works a bit better logically speaking is that Markus was created to spread deviancy and Connor can do it later on because Markus was able to pass it on off screen. It would have been some sort of coding or software that Markus had and we know the androids can transfer data between each other (we see Markus do this when buying the paints in the beginning of the game and Kara accesses the internet to order the part for the dishwasher).
If they all could do it at any time, deviancy would have spread much faster as androids realized they could spread it. Kamski being behind it makes the most sense especially considering how iirc he's a bit disappointed in Connor if you choose to shoot at his house.

Kara has likely changed her appearance enough that he doesn't immediately recognize that she is an android. That is why he doesn't want to help. And later he refers to Alice as "it" and tells Luther to take her to his workshop where he works on androids. Also, the Kamski test had nothing to do with Chloe. The point was to test whether Connor was capable of empathy. Kamski wanted to know if he was going deviant.

The real sin about the Alice android twist is that it undermines Kara's storyline. I don't think it's to undermine Kara's story, as i never got captured in my play through, I agree that alice being human would've just felt better for Kara's tale. I mean I don't mind the twist so much as, the game making a big deal about it and acting like it would or should change how Kara feels for Alice for a second. Kara says herself, it doesn't matter that Alice is human. Like I don't get the point of that at all. It seems like it's just there for some hypothetical player who hates androids and doesn't care about anything but Kara's story bc she's taking care of a human and doing her job. Which does not reflect Kara's journey at all, so it really shouldn't be in there... Like they could have just made it a matter of Alice is in more danger the Kara and more so we the player thought and that's why we've been so focused on leaving the country, because Kara knew but was in denial, and she was in denial because she couldn't stand the thought of Alice being in danger. Not some bullshit about her loving Alice less because she's not human.

This is a reference to North's background and was really interesting when I first stumbled on it.
EDIT: Also when you first arrive at the police station as Connor and look up deviant case files there is a case filed by the manager as well, stating that a WR400 or Traci sex bot went missing after escorting the customer. so it's mentioned TWICE!

The entire review was the person not reading the actual small details or apparently ANY of the text in the magazines. This was clear, as was the fact that Kara was the original sentient model and their "owner" specifically knew that they both were deviants - and wanted it that way to replace his wife and daughter who had left him. The depression and unemployment came later as his perfect world came apart. Really a sad story, and completely understandable. But the game is designed to be played the first time without any of this knowledge, because Kara didn't have it any more. And "I will die" said so often by the androids is because when they become sentient, they lose all internet connectivity, tracking, and connection to the company servers. A wipe or being taken offline is effectively death. There have been many movies and books written about people having their memories erased or altered, but it's a sin in this case?

As a drug addict with a mood disorder caused by antidepressants, it wouldn't be surprising if Todd was delusional and projected his feelings about his real daughter onto Alice. After all, why would he have Alice in the first place if not to replace his daughter. In addition to this, when Todd gets violent towards Kara in certain other paths (IE the one where he kills Alice) and claims that this is "all her fault". At first glance this could seem like a borderline fourth wall break intended to scold the player for failing, but if you think about it this could also be Todd projecting his feelings about his ex wife onto Kara. So basically, if you consider this, the script isn't flawed and isn't made only for the convenience of a plot twist, but instead a true depiction of severe mental illness and addiction.

Kara is a mother just trying to protect 'her child' who would do bad things to protect her that she gives no forethought to and is clouded only by motherly instinct. And Connor is the 'human' because he is anything and everything which is the ultimate symbol of humanity. To simplify Markus is the hubris and ego of humanity, Kara is the compassionate and protective side of humanity, and Connor is the free will and expression of humanity. And these qualities seem to be increased by a large margin.

If you decide to stay with Ralph for the night after escaping Todd then walk into the kitchen, you find Ralph carving the phrase ra9 all over the walls of the kitchen, Kara examines it for a bit then asks Ralph what it means. Also apparently some androids can know about ra9 but not know what it means, because Ralph replies with, "I don't know." 2. In Zlatko's home there's a room where you can find ra9 written in the corner (I don't remember which room it was) Kara examines it and once again seems to have no knowledge of it as she just stares at it blankly without idea. 3. What does something about little in game speculative lore have anything to do with overall game design quality? Is that not more about inept to detail lore writing than it is about the game design? You are barking off the wrong tree, and your argument sounds like it puts an agenda and motivation at slander first before constructive criticism. Besides, as OP mentioned, it is theoretically implied that RA9 or the Deviant issue was already engineered from the start.

Oh so many incorrect sins that could have been answered by simply paying attention. (The rest were fine, but damn did it mess with my enjoyment of the video.) For example, Zlatko DOES know that Alice is an android, he just doesn't let on to Kara that he knows. In fact, you can hear him talking to Luther about "it" later in the scene when referring to Alice. A better sin would be "How the *hell* does Kara not notice the blue blood stains all over Zlatko's hands?"
Also, why is Hank's character development a sin? So few of the characters in this game have development. Don't knock one of them that does.

might be true. Then again, right at the beginning there is a hostage situation, with the Android as a Kidnapper. One could argue that a situation like that is highly stressfull, but no self-destruction. When Kara fights against Todd, no sign of self-destruction. when hundreds of Androids flee from Jericho, their only safe place, and witness how their own people get massacred, you don't see a single android self-destruct. and even at the conzentration camps, where the Androids know that they gonna be destroyed and there is no way back, no one, to my knowledge, self-destructs. I'm pretty sure that there is no other instance where this is a thing. So it might be true that all only deviants self-destruct because they don't follow their programming. but this whole premiss is just an excuse to add drama and tension to that scene, so you as a player would feel like there is a possability to fail. I let you decide if you want to take the time to question that kind of game design and narrative.

    • @qthedisaster1730
      @qthedisaster1730 Před 5 lety +7

budemawa he did bring up a good point, segregation and slavery don't coexist well for several reasons. 1) Deviants/Free Androids wouldn't exist and be allowed to live so that's not a reason to not allow them into restaurants and stores etcetera. 2) We all know people would send their androids on errands or retrieve food so segregating or blocking androids from stores/restaurants wouldn't make sense. 3) They are designed to be servants and denying them access to any area would hamper the efficiency of androids, for example being segregated on the bus makes no sense because most of them carry bags for their owner and having to wait a whole bus ride just to dismount to access your bag seem tedious or having to enter and exit a bus to then pass them back sounds weird
And also the androids aren't human and are machines which is an important difference here between the actions committed against them and those committed against humans and other living things.

    • @Lanoira13
      @Lanoira13 Před 5 lety +11

Right? And the segregation thing is only PARTLY actual intentional segregation. Do some people just genuinely hate Androids as people? Yes. But most of the "no androids in here" or "Android Section" shit is either technophobia or just policies due to overcrowding.
Tech-phobia reason: Plenty of places have rules against using your phone or are all "Wifi Free Zone!! Call your mom, write a letter, start a fire with your bare hands because Unga Bunga Technology Bad Science is Witchcraft".... Humans don't know yet that Androids are anything more than big iPhones.
And Androids are the size of a whole ass Human. Of course the have a designated compartment on buses and trains, Public transportation makes you store suitcases if they're a bit too hefty. If everyone brings an android with them to the bar, that bar is going to hit full capacity with half the customers. When Kara and Alice are the only ones on the bus, just sitting there sleeping, the Bus Guy doesn't give them shit. Connor is allowed to walk into a bar clearly labels "No Androids", walk around scanning the clientele, and then buy a drink for a human he is clearly harassing, and the bar owner not only doesn't give him any shit, he's perfectly hospitable to him.
Like yeah it still seems fucked up from our perspective because of how it looks and how we know the androids feel, but as far as humans know and have been promised and assured, Androids are not sentient and aren't supposed to ever be sentient. The humans don't know they're enslaving or segregating at the start of the game.

Alice also had all these feelings because this was the selling point of the YK series, they simulate illnesses, feel and react to temperature and turn off the LED to maintain the illusion of having a child. If you can't be bothered to stop and read them (considering that other stuff like it generally have an affect on what choices you can make, ex clues and extra witnesses during Connor missions) then you can't blame the game for being "lazy" when it isn't spelled out for you through character exposition.

1:23 Daniel wasn't going to be killed, he was hurt. He thought he was special to them. That's why he switched.
2:26 But not all of them are 10,000 dollars. In that very scene, the the android to your left is on a base that says it's 3,000.
2:43 Ignore the fact there's white, black and asian androids in that very scene.
2:55 It was just a little wink to the people who were there from the start. You should've said this at the start.
    3:30 Preachers gonna preach.
4:20 It's more the public service (e.g the construction and janitor bots.) androids are hated. House keepers are the slaves so it's kind of separate. Fair point though.
4:51 It's not hard to believe that since Alice is an android to simulate parenthood, they would program it to learn like a child. As for Todd affording Kara, I think that his wife helped pay for Kara, left her with Todd (to get his life together) and the warranty had not run out yet.
5:21 Not every place outside America is Europe.
5:40 Not every place outside America is Europe.
    5:56 Yeah, it's like she's a machine.
6:12 First of all, it's likely Alice is deviant at this point. Secondly, we have no clue what red ice does and judging from the noises Todd makes when he smokes it, it's probably strong.
6:16 How did I not pick up on that before this?
6:54 Who said he was finished?
8:15 Here's my theory. When Conner's software instability increases, sometimes you can see fragments of "Deviant" and "Ra9". I think that androids see these things when becoming deviant.
8:51 We see Conner ingesting blood several times, while I'm aware of the differences between blood and spaghetti are tremendous, this show they might be able to eat, especially to simulate the family dinner time feel. I'll explain why Alice I think acts like she's not an android at the bottom cause fuck me this is hard on mobile.
10:02 Androids memories can be probed, they'd find out.
10:28 Because they didn't, it's a deviant. Note how he said tendency.
10:42 He wasn't expecting that response. You clearly don't have many dumb friends.
10:53 Carlos smoked red ice. See the bottom for my theory.
11:03 Probing the memory clearly scares him so it's easy to say it's not pleasant which means stress yadayada and self destruction. Keep in mind, they want to fix the deviant problem, not kill it off.
11:34 There may be an exception in the bus rule if it's to care for a minor.
11:58 Todd still drives. I'm pretty sure any id would've done.
12:04 It's possible Markus isn't the first to escape, who knows how long he was out. Also, the parts thing. Just be glad cyberlife invested in backwards compatibility.
13:31 You can find magazines that spread rumours that androids are just spies. Hank could think he's talking through a microphone to a person.
13:53 If you haven't noticed, there's no footage of the 2038 marathon around. They had to use something.
15:00 Or God forbid a machine made to chase criminals is better at chasing a criminal than a human.
15:02 Also, Conner is the first android detective. Even if there are more, why spend them all on one case, there can't be many if they're that new.
15:18 That took you 20 minutes? It's also used to introduce you to Markus' parkour thingie.
16:12 Hank has a car. There's an entrance to the roof right there, he likely cut him off.
17:10 Uh... did you forget she cut her hair and changed clothes?
17:25 Zlatko lives in a fucking mansion! How is that "rundown"?
17:43 It's likely he DOES know. Later on he tells Luther to "put IT in a cage."
18:21 Well, it's been a day and the police DID find her.
19:11 One, it's a polar bear which is extinct in this universe (check it's gallery info), two, it's a ROBOT polar bear. How can it get anymore badass!
20:00 Because Hank isn't a sex worker. One reason for disliking Conner is that he is inferior to Conner, Conner is going to replace him.
20:15 More Messiah connections with "Converting people with a touch." Plus, Markus is just trying to convince John when he does it the first time. This is how he finds out how powerful he is.
22:00 He's figuring out if Kara knows or not, he doesn't want to break her heart.
22:40 She clearly isn't looking at Markus though.
23:30 Yes but they don't want to be noticed on the way up. It's likely the cleaners have a strict schedule.
23:58 But he's demanding android rights, not deviant rights.
24:58 It's hinted that Alice doesn't know she's an android. Note how in the drawings, her blood is red.
26:00 If you haven't noticed, cars bring people places.
27:55 Well that depends. To kill Markus here, simply leave John behind at the docks. If you did do that and he still lives, turn on experienced mode.
27:58 Don't pretend you've never forgotten to tell someone a password.
28:44 His name is Gavin. It's implied he was going to take over the case and possibly wanted the glory. That's why he attacked Conner.
29:10 No, she's saying that he isn't a deviant but deep down, wants to become one.
29:54 Conner is the first detective android, he's gotta be known.
30:05 It may have to do with the fact Conner will shoot if Markus comes too close.
31:24 But you did sin it.
31:40 It's a politician. They dodge more questions than they answer.
31:58 Because they still trust Connor.
32:08 I don't think the guard can see anything through that helmet.
33:00 Maybe it's to do with the civil war rumoured to kick off in 10 minutes.
33:15 No, this was more of a back up plan for if Connor went rogue.
Now I have to explain the rest, huh?
Red ice: My explanation for the red ice attacks is that they induce rabies like symptoms. Note how they become aggressive on a dime. Also (this may be a stretch) rabies induced sensitivity to light. Todd and Carlos' houses were very dimly lit.
Alice: Alice doesn't know she's an android. In her drawing, her blood is red. She is also deviant. If she does know she's an android, she clearly doesn't want to be. She has the picture of Todd's real family because she yearns for an actual famliy.
If I made any mistakes, I apologise as it is 3AM where I am. This video is two months old no one will see this.
