To all volvo D5 owners please check your fuel filter has been changed, my D5 engine was slowly but surely being starved of fuel over many years because the fuel filter was blocked due to lack of being changed by my local garage at the required service interval (35,000 miles, 56,000 km) will transform performance of your engine if your filter is blocked or partially blocked !

Aisin gearboxes are only rated to 450nm max hence why Polestar tune only goes to 440nm. You can tune these engines to much more but gearbox is the weakest point. Hope it works out for you and we wont be seeing a video soon on how to change the gearbox on XC70. I have a 12’ XC70 D5 and a lot of your videos have helped with maintenance and upgrades. Eh as a T6 owner I agree but also disagree. Info dump incoming.
AFAIK main issues with the 4T65 as Volvo used it are:
      1. Failure due to fluid contamination (with engine coolant)
      2. Clutch pack wear from the absolute garbage shift times of the 4T65. Laziest shifts ever, especially with the thicker Dextron III fluid.
      3. Hard part failure (somehow snapping an input shaft/breaking the TC/shredding a brake band)
The death of these transmissions seems to be total roulette. I know of people with well over 100K mi on their 4T65. Some people report three failures in 100K. I am sure some is driving habit/skill.
If the radiator cracks or develops a leak into the internal transmission cooler, you are SOL and probably won't know till it's too late, unless the radiator failure is catastrophic. I had this at 40K but got a new trans out of the deal. That's a flaw with the cooling system, not the trans, but people don't know and often blame the 4T65.
Regular fluid changes and upgrading to Dextron VI will help in any case. A $45-$100 shift kit from Transgo or Intense and about two hours of your time can often fix the hard shift issues or "max adapt" codes. It will also reduce clutch pack wear which will dramatically forestall the most common cause of 4T65 death: the clutch packs wearing down to nothing from the long, lazy shifts. Then you get errors, very harsh shifts, potentially limp mode, or worse.
My 2004 T6 XC90 is tuned to target 320 HP. haven't blown the gearbox yet, nearing 100K on this 4T65. The shift kit will be going in soon. If you blow the gearbox (it will blow someday) you can get it rebuilt to handle 400+ WHP. In other words, the gearbox is not REALLY the limiting factor if you have money to spend on a car.
As far as the 2.9 T6 is concerned, good motor, but the 2.8L has better power potential. Biggest issues with the 2.9L as far as chasing power are the TINY TD03-8G turbos, you can maybe get to ~14-15 PSI of boost but you are at the upper end of the efficiency range and those turbos quickly become a flow restriction. The next issue is the open deck design and cylinder wall thickness. The 2.9 has 83mm bore, the 2.8 has 81mm bore much like the famed B5244T5. People have reported 480 WHP out of the 2.8 with a bigger turbo. The 2.9 is going to have similar issues to any of the other Volvo 5cyl engines: AKA cracked cylinder walls. After that its con rods and pistons!
Toying with the idea of getting a 2.8 block and mating it to the 2.9 head from my '90. Getting a second thrashed 4T65 to rebuild myself, then slapping that back in the car and going to one big turbo. Dunno if I will do so someday or not.

Polestar has always been too conservative (And expensive) in their tune. This one sure is easy and inexpensive. But there are tunes that give much better power (without hardware upgrade). But those tunes need removing ECU and have it connected to a PC directly. But the process is only a few minutes. My XC70 got from 197HP to 280HP and 390Nm in half an hour. They can even fine-tune the ECU to match your driving habits/preference. But that's another story. D5T5 sounds worthy of a try as it's much easier to access than engaging a good tuner.

Thanks to your video about Polestar I bought Polestar in Spain which is very expensive, we are talking about 900 euro.
The d5t5 is a great web but it's a pity that they can't do anything with the electric engine, for instance something like removing the limit about 120 km/h when the electric engine doesn't help anymore will be welcomed or improving the electric engine will be great because for the D6 engine I only gain 20 hp from my Polestar update, now I have a total amount of 300 hp and 20 hp more in the diesel engine is few but if sometime they change something about the electric engine it will be awesome.

Yes, aftermarket tuners leave a checksum difference between ECM and CEM. This creates a code for "incorrect software" or something like that. Will not trigger a CEL and does not harm the car. It does let people know that the car has been tuned.
