I recently heard that tinned or canned Tuna can give you mercury poisoning. I eat tuna pretty regularly, so the idea that part of my diet could actually be poisoning me had me a bit concerned. But is it true?
Turns out, a lot of fish species can actually give us mercury poisoning. And it's all because of something called biomagnification.

Errrrm I have a confession I loved my tuna mayo sandwiches so one week I had 8 tuna cans.
Hi Aspect,
A researcher has shown that neurological damage by Mercury is one of the causes of Alzheimer.
He did tests with mercury on rats. It showed the rats brain deteriorated the same as in a person with Alzheimers disease.
Since Alzheimer disease is in our country(NL) rising to number 1 problem, maybe you want to learn more about it. This researcher also developed a chelator making detoxing safer.
It's very well explained in this video: "Evidence of Harm 2020" docu.

@Aspect Science Winner of a video, been searching for "home routine workout" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Zanabriel Workout Weevilled - (do a search on google ) ? Ive heard some interesting things about it and my mate got cool results with it.
You're an absolute genius. You always manage to make me interested in things I don't care about. Also, the cinematography, editing, and research that goes into these videos really way too good for how few subscribers you have. I really hope you manage to succeed on CZcams.
Thanks a lot! That's the perfect outcome for a video for me - to show someone that a topic that might seem boring is actually quite interesting. I will likely be dialing back the amount of animations etc. moving forward as unfortunately this isn't sustainable!
Well damm I've been eating two cans of tuna everyday for 6 months now

It is not a problem you can eat!!
You need to diversify your consumption of food. Only relying on certain nutrients is not good.

Eating too much tuna: poisoned
Cody’sLab puts mercury in his mouth: fine
Remember, Cody had inorganic mercury thus didn't get poisoned. Organic mercury is the dangerous one.
@@zahedchowdhury0 That's actually fascinating
@@zahedchowdhury0 Mercury fumes are super toxic though, so even putting inorganic mercury in your mouth is highly inadvisable.

Great video! Keep up the good work
Hey Tom, thanks for the extremely informative video. And I was really proud to see a product from my country on your channel. I have a slight question though. What does generation of consuming tuna do to a community I mean as a maldivian it's probably the most basic staple in my country and we eat a lot more than that recommended amount per week. And I think that's true for my ancestors as well. So my question is does this lead to health problems in the long term or does adaptation happen over time. We've been living here historically for around 2500 years which I know in evolutionary terms is a heart beat but there have been instances of more drastic adaptations. And so I've just always wondered but I've never found a satisfactory answer.
Me personally I think their lying about the Mercury. It's okay to eat fake fried chicken everyday all day and McDonald's but we're should watch our intake from fresh fish from the sea. These people are liar's 💯💯🙏🏽🙏🏽

No more than 3 cans a week
Man I have been eating 7 days a week for the past 2 years
@rishi pael Nope~ I got poisoned by excess tuna
It also fked up my liver ~ now I can't eat any

Well..Research shows that selenium counteracts the adverse effects of mercury... How have you only just heard of this? Good video but the mercury level in fish has been a concern for a long time...
If you notice in the beginning of the video, he mentions how it travels up the food chain. I've only ever heard of mercury in tuna, not shrimp or other fish. Interesting.
Ofcourse not as dose is what makes a poisn. The amount lower in the food chain contains heavy metals allowing your body to recover from the consumed heavy metals.
I kept thinking, "he should provide some numbers for this to be a good video" and then you did :-)
Haha, have to keep people waiting!!! :)
Thanks for saving me from my anxiety :) lol
My dad once had a coworker who ate a lot of sushi (especially maguro) daily. He eventually got mercury poisoning and his vision became temporarily impaired. He’s all good now, and the blindness only lasted a few days. Point being, tuna can cause mercury poisoning if eaten in excess.

According to my counties food administration they say that canned tuna does not contain high amounts of mercury but fresh tuna does.
according to dr.berg from a video (Dr. Eric Berg - 'Practical Keto') at 33:01 he talks about canned tuna being fine if the selenium is high enough, he mentioned avoiding 3 types of fish that are high in mercury though, the rest is fine to eat everyday, not sure how credible this source is though
Dr Berg is a DC do no offense but he knows naught about food science.

eating a tuna sandwich while watching this
To tell you the truth I didnt heard You say how often should we eat it, or how much is safe to have per week or anything like that.
The research was already done over 10 years ago. The selenium in fish bonds to the mercury rendering harmless. Eating fish actual helps with mercury toxicity despite there being small amounts of it in the fish itself.
I eat 2 cans of tuna everyday for 2 months now and I feel fine.. am I really gonna get sick if I keep doing this?

I've read that the percentage of tuna in tinned is very low.
The song at the begining doesn't sound in tuna
Damn I love these puns! XD
The high pitch and repeating kick snare in the music is very distracting. If you must use music, it should be low pitch and ambient and very soft. Remember that music that is nice to listen to is not appropriate for background music. Or, you could simply go with no music at all (when talking).
I personally didn't have a problem with it, but I can definitely see how other people might.
