This was very expected from South Park as this isn’t the first time they’ve pulled something like this against Disney, however, Rachel Zegler seems to be absolutely furious with their and everyone elses mocking!

Considering Snow White is a German fairy tale from 1812 it is not like Disney got the rights to it. If Disney want to mess it up then it opens the door for other companies to make new better versions of those same fairy tales.
Exactly. At first I thought the backlash was going to be over her race and the critics would embarrass themselves. (Which is not to say you can't criticize race swapping, but simply that it's a minor deal unworthy of outrage. Especially in this case because her father is Polish.)
But then Zegler - who I loved in West Side Story - goes out and undermines every single aspect of the story. At that point a sane person wonders why even do a "remake" and why this is the person you want representing your company.
I absolutely LOVE what south park is doing to Disney and Ziegler. I mean she could at least have a little gratitude for being asked to portray such an iconic character. But nope. So it's well deserved just in my opinion

If Disney really wanted "representation" and weren't just playing the woke angle for ESG money, they should've cast an albino actress to play Snow White, since that would be lore-accurate to the character _and_ they'd get to stroke their own ego about giving the actress such a big break in Hollywood. I don't see any legal grounds for Disney. Doesn't mean they won't try to file frivolous suits in hopes of buying compliance, but considering how much money Disney is losing now on bad decisions, they may not have quite that much monetary clout anymore. Goodness knows they have used those tactics in the past to protect Mickey Mouse™ from satire and loss of copyright, so they may resort to it, but how much money is already at risk from the Snow White missteps? Can they afford that? Moreover, this whole controversy risks tainting the original with controversy, eclipsing not just the story but the significance of the original in animation and film history.

If we live in a world where Rachael logic is the way, then as a construction worker I deserve to get paid for all my past work too. She wants to get paid for acting via streaming even after she’s done with the job. I want to get paid every time someone walks through a building that I helped build.
Nah, this comparison doesn't work. People do not walk into a building because it was you, who helped building it. An actor however can claim, people wanna watch that movie because that actor is in it. And they have a point. It's their star-power, what people pay for, therefore they deserve a small cut of every screening - the so-called residuals. That's not Rachel logic - it is established legit business practice. There are similar regulations for singers, musicians or any artist. I dont like RZ either, but for other reasons.

Residual payments are important for those actors, who are not having a big name and do not get salaries in the millions. These payments are not much, believe me, but they can add up to a decent (normal) income. It's a way for the studios to reduce costs, as they make an actors' total salary dependent on the popularity of a movie. This way, if a movie flops, the actor has recieved a (partial) payment for acting, but gets nothing extra. Not ideal, but actors have no choice. This is comparable to getting part of your salary in stocks. If the stock takes a dive, it lowers your salary.
You and your uncle are in a better situation, because (I assume) you get your full salary for your work, no matter what happens with the building afterwards.
Ms. Zegler's insistence on her residuals was a stupid comment, as she does not depend on them. Her solidarity comes across as greed and she didn't do her colleagues a favor with that. Despite being a stupid lil' brat, she has some star-power. Therefore her salaries are bigger. Well, if she continues to show this annoying behaviour and be a PR catastrophe, maybe she goes back to be a little support actress hoping for a decent residual payout.

A main difference between the Little Mermaid situation and the Snow White one is that Haile (who played Ariel) is nothing like Rachel. Putting aside race swapping, Haile is so sweet, humble and loves the story of the Little Mermaid so much. She is very charming.
Rachel (Snow White) comes off as entitled, rude and dismissive and she hates the story she is portraying. THAT is the main difference between the two.

If it happened then it could just be seen as picking a good actress and changing the ethnicity secondary. I love that South Park mocks Hollywood's woke pandering but at the same time acknowledges that Miles Morales as Spiderman is great because his identity is fleshed out and fits naturally into the story. It's one thing to just mock the "wokeness" but it's also important to give a good example of representation and how it could be done better.

The only reason Miles gets let off was because they made half an effort at least and created a new character with a different backstory, rather than just re-casting Peter Parker as Black, which is what they wanted at first.
But to just appropriate another hero and change the name is still wokeness.

But am still aware they could have chose for him to have new powers like a termite, or snake or or flea, but chose to still rip off Spiderman because they know Spiderman merch sells and a new hero with new powers who's black might not sell very well.

Let's be clear here. The issue isn't that they are changing the races or genders of the characters, they've done that in the past with things like "Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella" (with Brandy as Cinderella with a black sister and white stepmother and sister, an asian prince with a white father and black mother, ect) and no one cared because the movie was still fun and the races weren't the main focuses of the movie or marketing.
The real issue is that changing the races and genders (or making things "woke") is the only reason for, and the main focus of, many of these current movies and comes at the cost of story, entertainment and creativity. Taking all the fun, enjoyment and soul out of a movie in order to push an agenda is never going to be successful.
For example: They managed to destroy the entire plot and theme of "Mulan" without changing the race of the characters after all, going from a woman working hard and overcoming adversity to achieve greatness (an actual strong female character) to someone who was being held down and had super powers and didn't need to grow or overcome anything because she was always perfect (a Mary Sue).
The great and sad irony of all this nonsense from Disney is that they are systematically destroying the actual female role models that were built up in their earlier movies, women who grew over time, overcame problems and achieved great things while being women, with their new "strong female characters" that are little more than planks of wood (in terms of personality) who embody the worst stereotypes of poorly written male protagonists; super powers from no where, emotional detachment, ect. To go from a message of "you are amazing, if you work hard you can achieve greatness" to "you are magically better than everyone else, evil men are holding you back" isn't going to do young girls (or anyone else) looking for role models any favors.

It's setting a precedent. You wouldn't race swap Tiana or Mulan which is fine. Nobody should race swap those characters either, but stop race swapping white characters.
This is one of the reasons I liked Encanto. New and great characters that are diverse.
I think changing genders and race for roles can be a huge problem. I don't want to see native american vikings, or scandinavian samurais etc. These things ruins immersion and that matters a lot imo. There is also differences between men and women, so swapping gender for roles usually means that the characters doesn't make sense anymore.
I'm all for diversity, but for crying out loud just make something new.
I don't think hollywood or disney should be allowed to much creativity with other people's work. You need to hire based on characters descriptions in the books, and the story need to match as well. If you want to add a little humour to scenes etc that's fine. But there should be limits to how much freedom you have.

My entire family and most of our friends have canceled their subscriptions to anything that has to do with Disney, we canceled our vacations to Disney and Disney cruises, we don't stay in Disney Resorts anymore and we are enjoying our lives a great deal knowing our money is not going to Disney anymore.
