Actually makes a lot of sense tho. Kirk Cousins is 36 and injured. HE WAS NEVER THE FUTURE. In two years he’s 38. You really bringing back a 39 year old QB? No, plus if Kirk gets you say 9-10 wins, you don’t have the 8th pick, you drafting much later and this was a strong top heavy QB draft class. Next years QB draft is weak, year after they doesn’t look great but we will see. So you really want to go straight from Cousins to a rookie? The Falcons need to get fans back in stands, sell some jerseys and let fans know they’re going somewhere. The cap is going up $10-15m per year. In two years the Cousins cap hit isn’t even top 12 in the league and Penix still has 3 or 4 years on his rookie deal to go all in on a Championship. IT MAKES SENSE.

I'm not a Falcons fan, but I think I see the premise. Kirk is an expensive bridge QB, but by year 3 he's being paid 10m. Right now, it's the cost of doing business. Kirk is above average, he commanded above average money.
The first 2 years are front loaded. Which gives Penix ample time to learn and get better. I think the Falcons are betting by year 3 Kirk is either not that good, or it's time to let the guy we drafted get a chance. Unless, Kirk is garbage within these two years then Penix's clock gets sped up.
You hedge your bet that Kirk will be good for 2 years, then year 3 he's not that good, you cut him, it's only a 10m hit.
