  • I searched around on the internet everywhere and never found the information in video form. Granted theres probably one out there. But heres my take on it. There are multiple ways to program Ford/Lincoln/Mercury's keyless entry systems, this is the way that i found to work for the lincoln towncar. And probably the Grand marquis optioned with this as well. I hope this helps some of you guys out! Thanks for watching and stay tuned for more in the future!

Thanks Jay! The keypad procedure didn't work on my 1995 TC, but the ignition cycling DID! It worked like a charm!

I once had a 96 grand marquis the to program the remote all you had to do was enter the factory code which you did and then after that hold and press and hold 1/2 button for 2 seconds and then press any button on the remote control and then the lock's would cycle to confirm successful programming

@@percycalloway2478 typically if the vehicle of that year does not have the keypad on the door then Unfortunately there's a high chance that the vehicle was not equipped with the remote entry system and therefore the key fob will not work. A good rule of thumb is the ones that do have the keypad are the ones that are equipped with the remote entry system.

I had an 07 ranger with that same fob. I didnt have the keypad, but cycling the ignition 7 times worked for me. I had to close all doors, make sure all doors were unlocked with the power lock button on the inside, cycle the ignition 7 times, the locks cycle and you press any button on the fob to program

Remote locking. One of the best features ever fitted to vehicles. And sometimes, one of the biggest pains in the ass to sort out if it's not working or you got the car without any remotes, or (most commonly) one or more broken remotes (they don't particularly like being dropped, like pretty much any electronic component, and car keys are something that EVERYBODY drops pretty regularly...)
Apparently, Ford went through so many remote systems during the '90s as, being common cars, they were the ones most targeted by thieves using code jammers or code stealers. So, Ford changed the system set-ups regularly to make life difficult for the low-lifes. The systems didn't become really standardised until the late '90s or 2000 when rolling-code systems were sufficiently well-developed and therefore cheap enough to be worth using on high production vehicles. The vast majority of Ford products made since 2000, whether European, US or Australasian products, use basically the same system and have basically the same programming techniques, though there are differences for vehicles whose chassis-type was introduced before 2000 and whose electrical/electronic system made using the rolling-code system inadvisable due to the risk of it creating ghost signals in other electronic systems, electrical cross-contamination, which can cause all manner of potentially serious problems...

I have the same problem with my 1998 Crown Vic LX. Cycling the key on/off 2-10 times doesn't cycle the door locks for programming confirmation. It was made in 12/97 and seems the fob may be specific for prior to June. You mentioned must have the older fob to do this. Phoned Ford and they said all Ford fobs are the same for 29 years??? I' don't know what to believe. I'll try the keypad way you did tomorrow. The code and then holding 1/2 will cycle the locks but the owners manual says that is only for adding your own key code or turning the horn chirps on or off. Did anyone else notice the owners manual forgot to show what to push to turn the horn chirps on/off?? They flat out forgot. Anyways, looking forward to tomorrow.

If the lock cycled, but did not respond to your fob in your problem is your key fob. Could have a bad battery or just be a broken fob

Probably not, since Buick was built by GM, not Ford. You should try doing some searching on the internet about ideas unless/until Jay Smart can do a video on it (no guarantee he will). I wish I could help, but I don't own any Gm vehicles from that era.

And its not worth it to me anymore, I drive 30 minutes downstate to deliver in the westside. At 16mpg in an almost 30 year old car with no heat or air. And now they dont compensate for my gas anymore? yea f*** them.
