Similar thing happened to me. I just picked up my FireBlade from the garage after a service. Engine was still cold, I'd done about 1 mile, literally riding past the local police station in a 30mph limit. Someone on an R1 went shooting past me at 70mph+. 30 seconds later, I get pulled. One woman PC gets out of the patrol car, says she's been following me for 10 minutes. I tell her it must have been the other bike that went past, I've only just got on, and If I was really trying to get away, there's no chance she'd catch me. Then another 2 cars pull up with 4 more officers, doing their usual in-your-face intimidation tactics. She tells them her story. I ask if she's absolutely certain, she says yes. I ask for the video, she doesn't have one. So I tell them my story - they say I'm lying, and I'm going to be charged with dangerous driving, speeding and anything else they can think of. So I produce my credit card receipt which is about 3 minutes old. I show my temperature gauge. The woman PC drives off. I ask why she isn't being questioned for lying or at least if she's got it wrong. No response from any of the 4 cops. One of the cars drives off. The other cop car stays, the two remaining cops go through everything on my bike and my papers. Nothing wrong, of course. Then they tell me I'm lucky to get away with it this time but next time I'll have the book thrown at me. I wrote to the head of the local station with the complaint that their officers were lying - their reply was they were keeping the roads safe and acting appropriately. No apology. Never is.
Yeah, cops have zero hesitation about lying. Once a cop stopped me in the middle of rush hour in the middle of the city. For "not having properly fastened helmet"... I was polite as possible and he still took my bike to the tech inspection. Accused me of modifying it. Went to court, showed the judge it is original and the judge dropped it. But said she has to charge me with reckless driving and speeding and the helmet thing. Im like huh? Apparently the cop said I went full throttle AROUND THE CORNER and through the city center and was passing cars. In reality I was in a rush hour line of cars waiting at the stop light and he was on the sidewalk OFF his bike talking to a woman. I never went over the limit or even close due to traffic. Motherf+cker. This cost me all around around 1.5 - 2 grand (tickets, bike holding...)
And I have a few other stories like that of them lying through their teeth.
Best to have a camera for those cases.
