I need to run in my 911 GT3 RS. So I decided to take it on a road trip with my Audi R8 to see which is best. After four months of ownership the Porsche has done less than 600 miles. Can I get it run in and experience the full 9,000 rpm? What's more one of these cars has to go... But which is it? - Auta a dopravní prostředky

After watching the video: Everyone is wrong about what on your car? And who are this "everyone"? 😂
How TF do you drive 2 cars at the same time? I dunno how you do it Matthew... 😶
These types of videos should be done on carwow too, there’s far too many drag races that they get boring now because it’s the same video pretty much every video just with different cars
So true!
Or they just keep that content for that and he does his personal blogs on his personal page 😂
Yep correct
Why should he give his personal work to his employers?
He’s an employee there. He doesnt own it.

I think Mat might be the only human being in history to savour opening Christmas presents until the afternoon when he was a child. Anyone else do that? Bless him.
My kids have to do that, thanks wife hah
I'd 💯 get an oil change done after the bedding in period. In most oil samples that are analysed will contain a high value of iron particles from the piston rings bedding in. You do not want that swirling around until its actual first service
it'd be great if Matt could actually send the oil for testing so that we know if this is still necessary. This was true in older cars but newer cars have much better tolerances so who know. I change my my oil at 1000-2000km Mark depending on the car, just in case. Compared to the overall cost of the car it's a tiny expense.
This👍
Great point bro!
As far as i know, companys use special oil for the bedding in period which is more fluid so u have to change the oil or it will damage the engine cause its not as heat resistent as normal oil
Let's put he Porsche bore scoring issues to bed. What's that noise?
Honestly watching this 26 minute video I was more entertained than carwow videos, kudos Mat

No wonder. They're garbage now.
I've completely stopped watching the Carwow videos because I find them really boring. This was great though.

As a Porsche tech here in Australia I advise changing the oil every 5000kms or so for purity and proper protection, that's every 3200 miles in your language. God speed.
As a Porsche dealer I recommend changing the oil every 1000 miles.
As a Porsche owner, I think you're both full of chit.

That I have no doubt about lol,
Personally I just love the content where Mat goes on road trips etc instead of the usual boring drag races or standard car reviews! Some memorable old videos are for example the Jaguar F Type road trip, or the offroad tests. More stuff like that please Mat!
I completely agree Mat!! Good for you for being patient!
carwow stick of truth getting back at Matt's car😂 8:51
How did you see that😂
As others have said, change your oil at the end of the run in, then give it a proper thrash. Love the car Mat
One of your best videos - Very much captured the full experience with the GT3 RS - Thank you for taking us along
you can rename this video to "how to Edge your Porsche".
Your R8 sounds absolutely superb!
Superb 😂
Loved the video and absolutely agree with the prolongment ❤️
I agree with you doing a complete gradual run-in procedure all the way to 9500 RPM. That's what I've always done with my cars. Long term ownership usually benefitted from less oil usage and (possibly) slightly better MPG - not that you're likely to be concerned about that. Apart from "just because you can" there's little need to max the car out for overtakes etc. Those last couple of hundred miles will literally 'fly by'. Then get an oil change and you can really start to enjoy the full dynamics of the car.
Honestly just enjoy the car, the run in is fairly conservative as it is and there for all components not just the engine. The key is getting the rings well bedded and that can be achieved by running down hill with foot off the gas pedal. If you start doing regular track days don't forget to increase oil changes to every 5,000km or so. They're very robust, what hurts them more than anything is not being used and run up to temperature. From a maintenance longevity perspective the garage queens tend to come with a lot more problems.
That's one hell-of-a spec GT3 RS.. My guess is Mat's ownership will be long term. .. For me ordering & specing a Porsche had that effect; an ordered/spec'ed 1998 Carrera S (993) is in the garage 25 years now. .. Ordered Porsche's are special. .. Cheers
How did you avoid the hedonic treadmill?
Naaaah, this is literally one of the worst GT3 RS spec i have seen... No thirll, no crazy colors... 🫣
That just seems to be a safe spec. If it's navy blue with red decal and rim like the 997 GT3 RS, that's some special color combo.
Looks like a lease spec to me.
@@jkliao6486 There's a guy who used to fuel up at the Chevron by my house with that exact car. I complimented him the first time we were both parked up, and his response was, "This thing? I’ve enjoyed this video so much. Keep making these!
Jesus, you went full Welsh at 13:18 "Just Gorrrr-jus"! 🤣
A lot of new motorbikes will limit the revs until you have completed the miles. some allows it to rise with the odometer gradually. After a certain milage, they need a service, and after the motorbike have had that service, you can rev it freely. I guess it's very different in motorbikes though, since they have extremely small engines compared to cars and most likely revs way past 10.000 rpm, so there a lot of small fast moving parts.
With today’s electronics they could set it to adjust automatically and limit revs until the correct distance is reached
Loved the video, totally agree with you on savouring the experience! What a cool car to do that road trip in!
Mat, i think you should do more of this, this is so fun!! i absolutely loved it, find yourself a spot not too far away and bring the cars over there and give it a go...the sound of the R8 is just awesome. Thanks for sharing this.
Its all about cylinder pressure and getting the rings bedded in to the freshly honed bore, varied engine speed and load being key to good future Dyno figures
It really is not. That engine has been on a dyno before it was installed in the car.

Great to see you enjoying the local Welsh roads. Fab tour to run in the GT3 RS😊
The main thing with running in an engine is while keeping the revs low, apply plenty of power and acceleration within those constraints. Do not let the engine labour.
Actually you have to let the engine take some stress. It's all about keeping load on and off revs so use lots of engine braking and use different gears to accelerate.
@@v4skunk739 - by labouring, I mean struggling at low revs, like climbing a steep hill will insufficient throttle.
How rich has CZcams made you guv? You had an old 911 full of problems and suddenly 2 years later an impossible to get hyper expensive gt3 rs?

mat, you love cars, and i truly love that about you! thank you for giving us these beautiful videos!
Speaking to engine builders and oil manufacturers ....
This procedure is entirely unnecessary.
Anything metal that needs to "wear in" will have done so within the first start up.
The 1st heat cycle will expand anything needing expansion, and the engine running will impregnate any plastic items with oil.
Theres nothing else to "bed in" if its built correctly, and im certain it is.
Just rag it.
Yeah it really seems like voodoo
Clickbait titles are getting out off hand

I've always heard so many different things from dealers and "experts" about run in protocols... The most consistent thing was make sure to vary your RPMs during the first 1K miles (ie no cruise control on long journeys).
The real question is, how did you manage to secure an allocation on this Porsche? From watching Mark McCanns videos, its extremely difficult to get one
It’s not difficult to get one if you are someone that your local dealer wants to sell to.
Likely has previous purchase history with the dealer

First what a good day when Matt wason cars post
I thought they rev the engines to 9000rpm in the factory before they put it in the car?
They do. This run in stuff is all nonsense these days.
@@MiscName Hmm. Modern cars are more sophisticated but that doesn't really change the nature of components needing to be bed in. Especially if literally recommended by the manufacturer. If you can afford a GT2 RS it's not too much an inconvenience to get some miles in & give it fresh oil
@@MiscName the factory does not run the new engine at full temperature, things aren't expanded yet
@@bobvi5490
All the RS engines have been fully broken in prior to delivery. What this is all about is making sure everything is on point. And frankly, it's a way for manufactures to assure that if there are faults, they will be found when the car is not thrashed.
Great car Mat, you did the best thing waiting before giving it full gas, you don't want something to break as it would be silly expensive if its engine related.
I agree with you on running it in and taking your time. Well done Matt.
Pretty much all engines what you should do in run in is: 1 don't put pedal to the floor, max half throttle or so. 2 for the first thousand miles don't go past half the max rpms of the car. 3 don't go to highway at constant rpms, make the engine happily go through the revs (respecting the previous limit i said). After that, change the oil and filters and it's good to go full performance!!!
Please stop regurgitating these "run in" procedure as if they were law, they are not. So you can suggest what you may like, but it is absurd to put it up as something you have to do.
What’s the point. You have warranty and won’t keep it longer than 3 years. Just drive the bloody thing
That's why you're a meathead
Love this type of road trip Vlog video
Well done, fun sharing the cool part of owning a kickass brandnew car with an extreme rev limit.
so in conclusion owning a new porsche is all about stress and anxiety... stone chipping, bedding in, rev monitoring, car verticalling, pot hole and road debris scarez... seems like you should only take it to a prepd track and keep it there...
The gt3 rs is meant for the track.
