    3:23 the GH5S is a x1.78 crop instead of x2.00 crop (GH5), so speedbooster XL & GH5S is x1.1 crop.

    Great in-depth look at the GH5S Kai. I am about to get the GH5 and rather than getting the GH5S so I can save the money and get the lens. How easy was it to assemble the Zacuto cage onto the camera? I'm looking for the perfect cage. Either Zacuto, Tilta or SmallRig?

    Something doesn't seem right with the VFR slow motion from panasonic gh5 and gh5s. Seems like they added optical flow instead of being 120 or 240 real fps. What do you think of this? I know this is not a good comparison, but using my iPhone 8 and GoPro Hero 5 the slow motion is much more fluid in 120 or 240fps even though the image quality is much worse than on panasonic cameras.

  • @MarcGOILLOT

    Thank you very much for the quality of your work. I looked at all the comparisons gh5s vs gh5 and I sincerely find that yours is the best. However between 5 '32 and 5' 45, when crossing the bridge, the richness of colors and contrasts and the finesse of the backgrounds is clearly in favor of gh5s. Can you tell me if this is a real difference in capacity between the two devices, or if it is due to different shooting settings difficult to synchronize, or to post production work ? Because this is not so obvious in the other comparisons I have looked at, but none of which, in my opinion and in fact, equal the intelligence and professional sophistication of your work, you can trust me? Of course, there are other examples in your video, including 8'35 with the tag images and the difference in quality at 6400 iso, which are also very impressive. Thank you very much for your answer and forgive me for my English so beginner.

      I just made a comment because of this issue. I've seen this with both GH5 and G9 when using VFR. Now I see it too on GH5s from other users. Is it some kind of fake slow motion like using optical flow, or maybe not enough fast SD cards?

  • @DynamixWarePro
    @DynamixWarePro Před 6 lety

    About the EVA1, its more designed for broadcast with its camcorder like shape, and when you put an EF mount lens on it, it should be sharper than using it on a GH5s with an adapter/Speedbooster as the lens isn't trying to resolve sharpness on a much smaller sensor with smaller pixels than its designed for as the sensor will use more of the lens image circle and will benefit from larger pixels. Not only that, but a game changer could be when it gets the 5.7K RAW firmware and that will make it stand out over the GH5s since it can't shoot RAW.

    • @JamesJacksonFilmz
      @JamesJacksonFilmz Před 6 lety

      The raw is only external and will only been 10 bit. Rather take the c200 over the EVA1. In fact I would take either the FS7, UMP or the C200 over the EVA1. The only advantage the EVA1 has is the sharpness and built in NDs. The GH5s has timecode capability, can use the XLR adapter, has better ergonomics and is better in low light than the EVA1

    • @DynamixWarePro
      @DynamixWarePro Před 6 lety

    But does vLog really have "more latitude than HLG"? They should have the same dynamic range (at least on the GH5).

  • @joebuslife9275
    @joebuslife9275 Před 6 lety +4

    First off with a 0.64x speed booster the crop factor in DCI 4K is 1.15x not 1.28x and with the 0.71x speedbooster it is 1.275x not 1.42 You forgot to factor in the multi aspect sensor.
    But also a pro no one seems to be thinking about is how if the same f stop is used (say f2.8) the GH5s performs similarly in low light to an A7sii, this means the Panasonic Kit will be way cheaper, smaller and lighter to get similar low light results. (GH5s + 12-35 = $3000 vs A7sii + 24-70 = $4900)
    Plus if you want to go with a bigger (speedbooster) combo on the GH5s you can blow the A7sii out of the water in low light and get similar shallow depth of field. In essence its almost 2 stops better in low light than the A7sii when at equivalent depths of field. That's the amazing thing Panasonic has pulled off in my opinion.

    • @FilipeVarela
      @FilipeVarela Před 6 lety +2

      With all due respect, it’s clear you haven’t seen footage straight out of the A7s II. The low light abilities aren’t even comparable, let alone the fact you’re trying to pin the brand new GH5s to a camera that’s more than 2 years old now. I recommend you take a look at what the Sony can deliver at 102400 ISO and then compare that to GH5s’ 6400 tops? It’s not even the same magnitude.

    • @joebuslife9275
      @joebuslife9275 Před 6 lety +1

      You don't have both camera's either. If you look at test results on YT GH5s is neck and neck with the A7sii all the way up to 12800 at the same F-stop. For ISOs higher than that the A7sii gets the edge. But the main point I was making is that if say you can't go lower than f4 on a subject with the A7sii before the depth of field becomes to small for the subject then the GH5s can go down to F2 and get the same depth of field but it then has a 2 stop low light advantage in such scenarios because it performs similarly to the A7sii at the same F-stop.
      So for a given depth of field the GH5s has the best low light. Plus all the other features like unlimited recording, 4k60, 10 bit 422, HLG, vector-scopes, timecode, anamorphic etc.

    • @FilipeVarela
      @FilipeVarela Před 6 lety +1

      Joseph Hinkle again, no disrespect but you should see Philip Bloom’s latest video comparing the GH5S to both the A7S II (again, keep in mind this camera is now 2 full years old) and the A7R III. Just take a look at the noise levels vs detail captured and then let me know if they’re even in the same ballpark.

    • @FilipeVarela
      @FilipeVarela Před 6 lety

      Joseph Hinkle and obviously I’m not commenting on DOF differences because those are aesthetics, subjective choices and have nothing to do with the sheer ability of these cameras. Personally, I’d much prefer a look closer to full frame/S35.

    Hi I noticed you never mentioned about filming in low light which is why i am trying to come away from my Cannon 550D that and my ccannon has a time limit on the filming and i heard that even in 4K there is no limit on shooting time. I have heard of camera's such as the Sony A7Sii ( the other camera i am considering ) overheat's and shut's down, i have been told that this do's not happen in the GH5S. Also the A7Sii has unique sensor technology regarding the pixels that no other camera has which will help me with my low light situation however the Sony has a time limit on the 4K, aaaahhhh this is so fustrating lol. Ok so the low light is the highest priority issue to be fixed so lets aproach it from that angle, which out of the two is best for this?

      Speed booster XL = 1.15x crop so basically it can be better in low light than any set up. Only weaknesses left are Dynamic range, Video AF, and shallow depth of field, but that last one is only about a 1/3 of a stop away from FF with the XL speedbooster.

  • @JonInLondon
    @JonInLondon Před 6 lety +2

    Graded? Really? It just all seems quite bright and my monitor is calibrated. Was it over-exposed and just had the VLog LUT applied but no other corrections?
    BTW just bought a GH5 as the lack of IBIS is too much on the "s", also while the sensor might move around with the IBIS off surely you can just turn it on and hold the sensor in one place, so I'm unconvinced by the excuse for no IBIS. If a gimbal moved the camera hard enough to shift the sensor with IBIS holding it in place it wouldn't be giving a usable image (without IBIS) anyway...
    You still can't have a different Photo Style for stills and video though (except with V-Log L, strangely), which is just silly.
    Pity the video-AF still isn't good enough.

    Well its obvious who will buy the EVA1 you just need to read between the lines. Panasonic and Leica have already said they will record the next Olympics in 8K cinematic; well that isnt going to be on a MFT sensor is it? Look around and you can see there is a glaringly obvious candidate; why did Nikon D850 choose 46MP HighJazz back lit sensor? High Jazz develops sensors for Leica and makes them in the Panasonic factory. Clearly the sensor had already been developed with 8K cinematic in mind, 36MP wont do for 8K cinematic. Clearly the Panasonic EVA1 and the Leica SL will have already been ugraded to take the 46MP sensor with the required system infrastructure to shoot in 8K cinematic, must be in testing by now to hit the Olympic deadline.

    • @DynamixWarePro
      @DynamixWarePro Před 6 lety

      Actually Olympus said in 2016 they are working on an 8K MFT camera, and in this interview, Panasonic are working on an 8K MFT camera: www.43rumors.com/interview-yosuke-yamane-san-lead-gh5s-development/

    • @vicibox
      @vicibox Před 6 lety

      The point is it would be easy to make a MFT sensor with the required resolution but the question is who would want to buy it? Enthusiasts with more money than sense mainly but not the target customer. The target audience for this 8K cinematic footage is broadcast quality Sports shooting for the Olympic games. No MFT sensor would be capable of this quality; certainly not wih any technology available today. Points at the GH5s the current state of teh art which has been reduced to 12MP to get this level of performance. No, the 8K cameras developed for Leica and Panasonic will be 35mm. Even on a 35mm sensor with reverse technology the dynamic range will still be short of the 24MP SL shooting 4K now. If it cant shoot at least this well then it hasnt got a market. The other fact is that the GH5s pretty much makes teh EVA1 an antique, it is waiting for an upgrade; 8K would make Panasonic a market leader and totally destroy Canon Pro Cams.

Also, you could have tested on leica pana lenses to actually see if autofocus has improved, you could have recorded 10bit 422 internally and check the skintones in comparison to the gh5. instead you put a speedbooster and a 5000mm lens on it and record on an atomos. Applies to GH5s/G9/A7R3 etc...
    Canon still making lots of Lens revenue from Panasonic/Sony Users anyway.
    If Canon can do a 5Dsr2 (Faster and Better DR/Low Light) and the FF Mirrorless (With EF mount) right then Canon will come back to Body industry again.

      Canon and Nikon are tried and true. They just have the reliability and user friendly factor that will never go away.
      Sure, Sony and Panasonic have all the fancy new features, but at that price range, they’re having logistical issues that should not exist at $2000+ for a camera. Overheating, bad battery life, bad menu system, bad af, no flip screen, flaky touch screens, etc, etc.
      I think Canon and Nikon are doing the right thing by waiting and fine tuning their engineering while Sony is releasing new cameras every friggin week. Because once Canon releases something with Sony specs, it will be a no-brainer which one to go with.

      Zaber Ansary the GH5s has insanely clean video. Having the extra leeway in camera to monitor light intake allows users to tighten aperture for a sharper image, shoot slowmotion in much darker environments, ect. Also the GH5s has better skintones than the GH5. If I had a gimbal I’d prefer the GH5s in an instant.

      Phil Zero the only con that you mentioned that relates to Panasonic in that list was the “bad autofocus” and that is just video mode. Nikon’s video autofocus is just as bad or worse. The rest of those issues are solely Sony issues. Coming from an ex Canon, Nikon, and Sony user, all of the other stuff like the touch screens and the usability in general is absolutely perfect on LUMIX cameras.

      Daniel Black oh I agree. Don’t get me wrong, I love the performance of Sony and Panasonic, and Canon and Nikon are far from perfect. I would LOVE to have a Sony or Panasonic right now, but there always seems to be something missing that’s preventing me from making the jump. Whether it’s the AF or sensor size or what have you. And as far as Nikon goes, they just kind of have a strong stance in the photography end.
      I just think it’s only a matter of time before Canon releases something with Sony/Panasonic specs on full frame that’s in the same tier as the the gh5, a7s. Canon just released the 6d2 which was a bit of a disappointment, but it’s still the only full frame with a flip screen (also canon colours, Af, etc). It just seems that the next logical step is to add 4K and a higher frame rate, and then it’ll be a clean sweep for Canon unless Sony and Panasonic come out with something even better (not sure what else there is, spec wise)
      But for now, there’s no denying that Sony and Panasonic are the top performers.
