I resell part time and make enough money to pay an extra mortgage payment every month! I source 1 Goodwill on my lunch break m-f and hit garage sales on Saturday mornings. It's fun and I'm going to pay off my mortgage early because of it!
Just wanna say ... That's friggin awesome!
We do the exact same thing!
I love this! Very smart!
And this is to me the perfect strategy and goal. I am in a similar position. I do not resell full-time, I source from 3-4 Goodwill stores in the evenings during the week and the occasional Garage Sale in my local area on a Saturday. My goal is 10k profit a year and so far I have done that comfortably by being very selective in what I purchase. I am comfortable with my process but am well aware that it would change dramatically should I choose to go full-time.I agree that a lot of people get into reselling with the romantic idea they are going to make a fortune and work only the hours they choose and that a lot of the CZcams content out there can be very misleading. you also have to realise that a lot of people make as much from their CZcams channel as they do from reselling so the exagerated videos are all a part of that content creation. As long as you research what you are doing and are aware of the CZcamsrs intentions, you are good.
What an ingenius way to use your lunch hour!! Congratulations!!
If i made garage sale videos it'd just be 10mins of me finding stuff and 4 hours of me talking to the elderly about quilting ,gardening, and fishing at every other garage sale.
😂
😂😂😂
One thing you didn’t mention that I believe is a huge factor in your success is your personality! You and Haley are the perfect blend of funny, compassionate, and wisdom! I’d watch you two even if you weren’t selling anything! ❤
I started reselling after I retired. I make enough to have a nest egg for home repairs, doctor bills. The truth in this business is it’s not easy, fast or guaranteed money. I purchase most of my inventory at the bins and my cost to profit ratio is typically close to 10 times. But I also purchase a lot of “bad buys” because I either just love the item or I don’t want it to go the landfill. Things eventually sell. But it takes up a lot of space in my tiny house. CZcams, Instagram and other social media is definitely a boost for those who are serious resellers. I don’t do any of that, it just takes too much energy. Thanks for being transparent, it’s refreshing.
This! The two of you are entertaining of course. But you also keep it real. This is why your youtube will remain a favorite of mine.
The title of this one made me laugh out loud! Your humility and common sense approach to life and reselling is refreshing, and THANK YOU BOTH!
I am a picker only for me and my family, so it doesn’t take much to see how hard you two work behind the scenes. But I wager that, like me, you also have a passion for finding and saving lovely and reusable items. People who go into this without that passion and only for profit will end up hating it because they’ll find the cleaning and grunt work untenable.
I agree. It's a good feeling when you find something a new home, a new life, and prevent one more thing from ending up in the landfill.
You have always been honest about the work of reselling and that your success is in large part due to CZcams viewership. Reselling is a great opportunity but it can so easily get out of control - like your $7K clothing or $10,000 Disney buyouts. Some do reselling for a season and for some the season lasts longer than others. I appreciate how humble you and Hailey are about your reselling/CZcams success and I wish you much success in the future.
I've been reselling for 8 years. My business plan has changed a few times until I found my niche. Lots of trial and error and a steep learning curve. I watch a ton of videos to help me figure stuff out..like mailing, taxes etc. I was able to fund all of our Disney vacays and pay off debts so it's been worth it. But it's not easy and you get what you put into it.
Excellent video Josh! Hope you both are having a memorable Italian vacation! 🤗👍🏼😎
I really appreciate that you shared your whole journey - I remember your early videos when you didn't have a huge following - so it's great to see that journey and also to see how you did with less of that social media advantage
Why it isn't what it seems?
1. Availability of inventory. If you dont find items you will be done.
2. Competition has doubled since 2020. And they will buy up hoards of items even if the sell through rates are horrible.
3. Prices to aquire items is up: If you are not making money, you cannot afford new items.
4. Sell through rates will decimate your bank account and storage.
5. Race to the bottom: Amazon return item sellers can take a $40 item and drop it to $20 overnight.
I watched that video as well. I had the same feelings as well. Your channel does a decent job at keeping it real.
The only thing I'd say that a lot of youtubers don't talk about is how they can fund their business through youtube views/payments. It makes a big difference.
I saw the video and the guy was 100% right. When I watch CZcams reseller videos, it's purely for entertainment. I learned early on that I can't replicate what y'all do, at least not yet. I'm not going to be able to buy a bag full of plushes and a broken chair and flip it for a profit. I have to rely on sell through rate and rarity in order to be profitable.
Absolutely. Although some plush are 100% worth it to sell. We’ve sold some for as high as $260.
@@HairyTornado Oh definitely. I haven't found any that valuable but I have found some worth $40-50.
Don’t know why I got emotional over this vlog maybe just because you seem like a regular guy not a celebrity 🫣 The Tornadoes Always Keep It Real! Maybe not so much on the other channel 😂 J/K ⛳️ All The Best! Be Well Be Safe & Stay Blessed.
Every so often I think about trying my hand at reselling, because it looks so easy. Then I REALLY think about it and realize, "Nope, I don't want to work that hard!!" I'm retired and I like not having to hustle :)
I am a newer (less than a year) reseller… it’s a hobby and I am helping to pay the bills! I have rarely found an item with a good sell through rate, in my area it is harder. BUT… I am happy with my profits! I have to remind myself often to keep my expectations low and just keep enjoying it! I have found several BOLO items and that’s awesome, but in all reality, I have to be okay with being a long tail reseller!
You two do a great job with your style and content! I enjoy your videos! You’ve worked long and hard to build your audience and followers…and it’s great that you can sell things I probably couldn’t ! Keep up the great content, thanks for being open about these things! I think you two have done an awesome job of keeping it real, even before this video! AND it’s okay that we are all on different levels of selling!
Ty for being candid about the resell business.
When you guys return from vacation , we need a gumball machine update!
People will say always talk and say stuff. So you have to use your own judgment. Glad you try to tell the way it really is. Hope you have a wonderful day.
I think you guys have done a better than average job of stating that you're often able to get higher prices because of your following, particularly on Whatnot. You also share some bad buys / re-donate situations. You constantly mention that you have employees helping, and that you both do this full time. Some of the titles are approaching click-baitish territory 😅 but most of us expect a level of that (although I don't think you particularly need it, because yalls content is solid and valuable). About that tumi... Lately I'm finding more blue, orange, and purple than black. I love it!
Ditto, I totally agree with your statement.
Love your channel, very informative as a newish reseller, sold on ebay for years but was more of a hobby, trying to make it my full time gig. 2 months in and hope to be full time ebay reseller in a year. your channel is one I consider to be honest and truthful about what resellers do and ALOT of reselling really comes from experience as I am finding out. Have made some great buys and some that I have broke even on or only lost a couple bucks but I do enjoy your content and the information you give to aspiring, self motivated, new resellers. keep up the great work and thank you!
Even if you don’t make a lot of profit on somethings on EBAY if people give you good feedback it all helps to get others to buy from you
And good luck I have an Etsy shop that gives me a good income since I retired
Hope you’re having fun in Italy ☺️. Great video 🫶🏻
Thank you for being so informative. I love how you teach folks like us how we can do it as well. I also like how not everything is roses and profit.
Your videos are awesome, you got me into reselling at yard sales, your info is spot on, keep'em coming.
I love the videos and I always learn something new every time I watch them. Thank you for all your amazing work.
I'll never stop listening to yall lol.
You guys are always very transparent about your business, I rarely watch other reseller channels these days. Love to Mose!!
You guys better make a fun video in Italy :)
It’s definitely not as easy as people think it is, but it’s very possible. I went full time into reselling 3 years ago, and have loved my life since. No bosses, lay offs, requesting days off, etc. Two weeks ago my dad got fired from his job for practically 0 reason, and he’s been working for me until he can find somewhere else. I’m blessed to be in a situation where I can help him, but he’s now realizing how much more work goes into this job than he realized 😂
Agree. It's long-time resellers (without social media content) who have really felt the pinch due to the crazy number of resellers. It has changed.. a lot.. and it's not always easy to adapt. The two of you have always been honest, which isn't true of most other CZcamsrs. There are honest people on CZcams and those who glam it up. Congrats, as always, for great, HONEST content.
I do reselling to help the income a bit. It is a lot of work. But I a,
M retired and semi laid up so I have a bunch of down time. I watch you religiously, listen to your advice and have done better each month. I am going to brave a whatnot sale soon. I don’t plan to get rich re- selling doing it at my pace. But it is fun and it helps our small income! Thanks for what you do,
I sell part time and have used that extra $ to pay off my non mortgage debt completely after the last couple years. Now, I'm using the small profits I make to put away $ into retirement accounts. Although, I see a viewer down below mentioned paying extra money toward their mortgage. A great idea!
You guys are always extra honest and informative. Highly appreciate you
its the behind the scenes as well. In the videos we dont see the work it takes after you sell an item. or sell through rate look ups. or cleaning up finds to sell.
It amazes me that I'm only an hour away from you in Augusta GA and yall goodwill is way cheaper than ours. Our prices are ridiculous.
Augusta has some of the worst goodwills I’ve ever seen
@@HairyTornado you are so right. I couldn't believe the prices when we moved here. On Mondays they have color of tag for 1.25 for clothes but you have to look at the tag because if it says "special price " then it's only half off but no one looks at that and that's how they get ya. It's annoying.
I resale PT and it is not an easy thing to do at all. I only do eBay and my strategy is to always look for items that other people wouldn’t think about. I sell a lot of smalls but smalls add up. I have had a few resellers tell me I need to broaden my items I will sell and I’ve tried clothes & shoes but I have had awful luck. I have certain items that sell extremely well for me and that’s what I primarily focus on.
WOOOHOO thank you Josh this is what I have been saying in comments for near a year thanks for this video!
I did like the video.
Man great backdown at the end there! So many different variables and ways to be a reseller 💯 I work part time and resell on the side 1. I was inspired by you guys & others 😂 2. I’ve always thrifted so might as well get in on some 🤑 plus It’s literally fun
Product photography will also be a major part of selling, I have bought over 200+ items off eBay to only take great photos and put them back on eBay and even double my money.
Yes you are right Check the sell through rate I makes a difference and I learned my lesson Awesome video
We resell, the wife and I like to go to the estate sales. We make enough to pay for everything we buy for reselling and stuff we buy for ourselves. No out of pocket costs. When we see videos like the ones you describe, we just say click bait.
Great advice love your videos thx❤️
Excellent!!!
Sounds like you are good at entertaining and I am guessing your buyers are paying extra for that. And there is nothing wrong with that :)
Good job. You guys are great
Great content and conversation. Most content creators give good product knowledge. I love you guys and other creators. Thank you for everything.
Great content in this banger, that insight on why you sell items vs why someone else doesn't is great for those that don't know. Loving the transparency!
Great video! Very informative. It's refreshing to hear someone break it down and gives us the truth about reselling. I've done it myself at a small time seller and know that it can be frustrating not to be able to sell successfully like many of the resellers you see on CZcams.
Good content Josh. Stay safe.
Thks for your honest and transparent thoughts about reselling. Your videos are great!
At this point it is pretty much all revenue from CZcams and not so much from reselling.
I saw that guys video also. I thought he made some really good points, one of which is how varied the ability is to get good inventory depending on where you live. I envy some of the You Tubers that live in areas with great thrift shops and garage sales. I do OK but not nearly as good if I lived closer to a bigger city.
I always enjoy your content. The work you put in to your videos is obvious and I appreciate it. Thank you
Great video. I saw the other one as well…truth is in there, but plenty of CZcams resellers are honest about their journey like you guys. I’m a a PT eBay seller and am trying my best on YT too. Both are hard work!!!😂
I would happen to agree with the video that you are talking about. Your channel/re selling business is extremely hard to achieve not too many folks can do it. I think all of your viewers can tell that you are very well off. I am a master plumber I make very good money. My wife works full time also and we could never ever afford a home like yours and or the trips that you guys take and just go golfing during the day together once a week. I would just be careful saying that you don’t make that much money because we aren’t dumb lol. Let’s be honest you are very well off and please don’t tell people you aren’t.
I never said we weren’t well off.
@@HairyTornado You can if you have zero moral issues with stealing stuff that are intended to people who can't afford it.
Oh well, I'm sure your religious cognitive dissonance can also be used to bend that moral compass.
Love your channel. It would have been nice if you added ‘how to find and use the sell through rate’ in this video about selling on line.
Its definitely a fine line of coming up with a catchy title and being truthful/realistic. I err on the side of realism, and I definitely don't get the views (or subs! 😂 ) But I hate getting sucked in by clickbait, so I try very hard to not do that. I don't think you guys do that here, just to be clear.
0:10🇺🇲Hawaii🤙
There are some days I feel like I am doing worse, but there have been days where I did find jackpot deals and ended up benefiting. An individual who is willing to grind to have a successful youtube channel is also going to be someone who grinds to have a successful ebay, mercari, etc. store. Gauge your expectations and guide your own journey because everyone's set of listings are different
Also, be prepared to make mistakes. It's just part of it.
Your success is definitely reliant on your social media status. Truth
I agree with you! I am now checking the Sell Through Rate & have been for quite some time, & I have left Yard
Sales because there are nothing! I also get the Fact that you have to Put out a Catchy Phrase for your CZcams Videos or else nobody would be inclined to Watch 👍 PS I also watched the video you were referring to, but it didn’t really tell me anything I didn’t already know 🤷♀️ Keep Up the Great Job, Take Care, Jill
Hey that was my Darth Vader I bought on the What Not! Great Video BTW!
Great haul best of luck 😊😊xx❤️❤️❤️🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🌺🦋🌺🦋🏠
Newbies also building that death pile. Sourcing with no posting.
I am not a reseller but I do understand what you are saying. I feel that some of the storage locker full time people really s t r e t c h too much! When I watch 2 or 3 videos and they have amazing finds in every locker, I tend not to believe it! I saw one that had bin after bin of very expensive bags and shoes and then the next one was just as unbelievable! I love you two and I love the videos and I especially love Moes! ♥ Great video!
Curious on what they charged you for flip flops, was it $4 like you thought? Great video as always!
I think it was $4.75
I haven’t seen a single CZcams reseller content creator state it is easy…. And I watch quite a few CZcams resellers…. Who is saying it is easy?
I think it just “seems” easy when your CZcams feed is filled with everyone finding crazy stuff.
Love what you are doing, but I am not happy right with eBay because they thought I did something wrong even though I didn’t. Last night I just was looking for a T-shirt for the Boston Celtics and then eBay shuts down my account. Not happy but I am taking my business elsewhere to do my shopping
The only thing that makes me sad about reselling is that I didn’t discover it until a few years ago. I have ALWAYS loved thrifting and holding garage sales. I just did not know about this job! So now I do it super part time alongside my full time fundraising job and it’s so much fun. I don’t make a ton of money but I enjoy it to the Nth degree. I can’t imagine not doing it now.
Over here🤙🏽
I get my dog Build A Bear stuffies for a toy. They are very durable and work great for dogs that are hard on toys. Be sure to only give your dog the ones with embroidered eyes!
Sometimes I get things for free from family friends and I just put it up for .99 cent auction on eBay. I’m not getting max dollar but it’s free money.
Not all SAS are orthopedic anymore. They have broadened their range of styles (while doing away with their wide range of sizes). I have pairs that are over 20 years old and still looking and wearing great.
Well, to be fair about the CZcamsr that made that video, yeah, I agree with some of what was said, however, when you have a CZcams channel with a base of subscribers such as yours, not everyone can pull from CZcams to like Whatnot where you get subscribers buying and paying more than any other random Whatnot buyer would pay. The same for other selling platforms like eBay, etc.
Mose for president!!!
I've found that Reseller CZcamsrs use a lot of clickbait, but never let anyone tell you, you can't make money reselling on Ebay
If you work hard you don’t need a CZcams channel or social media, I already made 6k profit this fortnight after fees etc, that’s 14 days of selling. If you grind hard you can be successful, it’s how drivin you are to succeed.
I personally enjoy more thrifting (buying) than commentary
It's a hidden mess with what not I hit a couple complaining all the time that they ain't making no money the b**** is low so Josh you are very fortunate lucky I'm I know you're not hitting it all the time good but you just got to think thank you subscribers they're definitely giving you your lifestyle and be humble cuz also a lot of the prices that you charge for some of the stuff that you find for little or nothing is real high and it's not even new most of the time so that's why I said your subscribers really support you That's a good thing so people would think they can come in there and do the same thing without doing a lot of work but I'll get no subscribers and working hard at it
We don’t “charge” anyone anything. We start every auction at $1. Sometimes people get killer deals on stuff and sometimes we’re able to get a little more for stuff if it’s a fun show.
❤
Cha Ching!
If I look at your videos on my IPhone, I can't like nor comment, on CZcams. I can on this old phone with just internet. Anyway, I've been looking for Hairy Tornado Golf, part 2, and I can't find it yet.
Hope you two are having fun!
Me before I watched you guys: I want to resell! This is a pretty easy job!
Me after I watched you guys: No thanks I’ll do another job.
How do find the sell through rate on an item ?
So your the exact CZcamsr that you speak about, your a CZcamsr that happens to sell on eBay, your vacations and house are paid for by your subscribers and as you said your eBay store and whatnot buyers are from here, so you are a smiling CZcamsr and using your subscribers to fund your fun
❤❤❤
Hello! :D
Josh, i sm currently mentoring a new eBay seller, dont know how that happened, LOL...
Where can i get some if those stickers???
Please let me know??? Thanks, Big Jim
Posting to random people all over the internet “Remember the good old days when you could get like $60 for allbirds, and now it’s like, maybe $25” wonder why…
Competition mixed with a loss in buyer interest, like any other business.
@@HairyTornado competition yes, but competition has and will always be around. I wouldn’t confuse loss of buyer interest based on the current STR of Allbirds. When everyone on this platform constantly posts videos about brands or “BOLOs” you’re basically creating Unnecessary competition. That’s a fact. eBay takes work and research that a lot of people don’t put in the time to do. So when you constantly speak about brands that have a high STR you bring unnecessary competition to that product/brand which over saturates it and drives down the STR. But as long as it gets people clicks and views…
@@HairyTornado There are full time CZcamsrs that try and sell on eBay, and full time resellers that post on CZcams. Luckily for the full time resellers there are brands that are and will always be under the radar from the full time CZcamsrs. That “business” will always be safe! So all good.
❤❤❤❤❤
❤❤❤❤❤❤
You talked about GW only charging you $1 for the Lion King plush, and maybe the cashier didn't see the up priced sticker. Has it occurred to you to go back and let them know you were possibly under charged?
No because we’ve been overcharged for stuff all the time. It balances out
My daughter isn't a kid and wears size 5.
Hi guys
Where do you primarily sell now? What's the criteria you use for ebay vs whatnot vs ??
90% of our stuff is sold on whatnot. eBay is best for getting top dollar for stuff but whatnot is faster.
Delmar Glaze in the house
I'm a small-scale reseller in the new york city area and it is a VERY volume based thing. Buy thing for $1, sell for $20 kinda thing. And also niche; every reseller, I feel, finds their own little specialty that they know more than other resellers about and end up finding it a bunch. It is NOT as easy as "buy random stuff, sell, make profit", you gotta know what you're looking at and sometimes it's about ignoring the hype other resellers (no offense) goes on about.
i found a patch on the floor at the bins I needed for my collection. There's 100 listings from 1-$10 on EBAY. It sits at $1 and I waited for one at 3 cents. If that one didn't sell for $1, why on earth would the $5-10 exact same sell?
Do you have dates for Flip Con this year???
We aren’t doing it anymore
