This is one of the most useful mixing tutorial videos I've ever seen. Changed my perspective on mixing entirely. 🙏🏼
just dont put reverb in your track like Sean create an aux track and send your signals to that aux, so you can control, eq, sidechain that reverb independently rest of video is really nize
Exactly
agree with you.
I can appreciate this as mixing from start to finish for the simple fact you showed how you bussed everything thing out and the plugins you used on the tracks and how you processed everything!!!Thanks.
Learned a lot from this video and I'm not even through the whole thing. That phase inversion trick on the 808 blew my mind. Earned my sub, you definitely deserve more than 20k my man.
Haiko Geary glad to hear it Haiko, thanks :)
I've been obsessing over gain staging. I watch this video and you're pushing it to the max while keeping levels in check. I love it. Thank you.
I have really no idea what I'm doing when it comes to mixing my beats. After watching this video (twice back to back) I've learned that I've still been approaching the mixing process all wrong. Thanks for the vid, definitely subscribed and looking forward to learning more
I already knew a lot (certainly not all) of what you did, but heck, that was a VERY quick 41 minutes! Thoroughly enjoyable. Thank you very much for posting that! Next Hip Hop track I mix I will certainly be using what I've learned.
Bro, I never knew you could split audio files like that! OMG, you're a life saver! Thanks!
Stereo 808 that intentionally cancels on mono... never seen that before! Genius!!
Exactly....I am thinking about using it on bass and kick
That phase inversion just changed everything for me
Great video! there's definitely more to mixing than just leveling. looking forward to applying these fresh techniques. thanks again!
Thanks sean, I learned new things here esp. the flipping the phase with the 808.
great info. i appreciate you taking the time to do this...
So sick. Love all the comments saying mix another type of beat 😂 just take what you learn and apply it to your best not that hard lmao
I just learned SO MUCH with this one video right now. Thank your for sharing the details of this session, hopefully I can reach somewhere near this level of sound quality soon.
🙌
love everyone of your video sean, always learning new tips anf tricks from u. keepem coming and stay up bruh
Thanks for doing this video. You giving away some of your secrets shows your love for us. I am humble. I definitely will invest in your mix/mastering course. Nuff Respect Sean.
sure thing, thanks TIzheart!

Thank you Sean... Great info!
This is awesome thanks for doing this. Been hoping you would post something like this for a while where you show a long session of mixing
sure thing :)

Glad to hear it Jason 🙏
Brilliant mate! Really clear and for me really intuitive
🙏
Thank you
dope!
Great video bro very helpful!
Great tutorial. Definitely gives me a better idea of what I need to try. I do personally think the hi hats are a bit too loud for my taste.. BUT overall it sounds good for it to be the instrumental. Great video!!!! You helped me ALOT!!
much of mixing (and art) comes down to taste. glad it helped :)
This is dope!!
:)
Great!
Another great video!

Hey Sean big fan jus wanna let you know that your channel and edtalente’s channel are the greatest help a young producer like myself could ever ask for huge love and respect for blessing use with your videos keep up the great work
🙏
Quality video Sean. Very well explained. I am currently on logic 9. The rms is different as unable add the arrow. I noticed your levels were very high and you managed to rms at -9.7. In order for my drums to level at -10 I have to reduce the strip levels to -8.6. Do you know why this is? Do you happen to have templates for logic 9? Thanks for this info bro. Sick tutorials and awesome productions also.
Thanks for the video! Can you do a video on how to mix Metro Boomin/Southside type beats?
great help watching your vids big thanks from South Africa
you're very welcome, all the way from North Carolina :)
your plug in catalog is more then impressive holy shit
Dope ass beat
Thanks for video mate 4 real. Learned alot from this really.
glad to hear it Malko!
You kill it on this video Sean, very good one.Your style of mixing is number one bro. JTz-Jackson Twinz
thanks Scharod!
Good one about rms of the kick. Never thought you have to mind rms at mixing stage. Could you show us mixing some kind of Travis Scott type beat?
Preciate’ Ya! ⚔️🔥🖤🔥⚔️
earned a new student subscriber and fan and thank you soo much now i can sell my beats without fear 🙏
🙌
Sir sean, can you make a tutorial on how to used a spectrum analyzer in mixing and mastering, thanks sir..
Hi Sean, i wanna thank you again for all your great videos i have watched different mix videos but none of them are like yours, for me you are just the best.
Please give us the secret of using the spectrum analyzer for mixing and mastering
Thanks in advance
thanks man! will see what I can do :)
you are welcome bro ... will be great !!!
Great video Sean thank you . Thank to you, my mix sound amazing !
glad to hear it Quincy!
great vids bro
thanks!
Cool
Thanks man
welcome :)
I really hate that I’m seeing this 3 years late. Some really good steps Sean. Thank you if you see this.
sure thing, glad it helped
thanks Sean you da man
🤜
been bingeing on your videos 🤓knowledge overload lol Appreciate the Logic Pro X love!
What are your guideline principles for RMS monitoring? It seems like you mentioned you want your kick to peak at -9. I'm just wondering as a whole what your guidelines are for each instrument, or where you want your vocals to be sitting at etc..... Please do a video strictly focusing/explaining your RMS monitoring principles. I think that is a great topic for you to cover. I love all of the videos and have learned a lot from them.
Glad to hear it Anthony! While it is a good idea to monitor levels, I'm not really paying close attention to RMS levels for individual tracks other than kick / bass / snare. Since I'm not relying on limiters and compression in the mastering stage for level, I want the loudest elements to be competitive level wise. That's why I"m referencing those closely.
Awesome vid! If I may ask where do you get your plug-ins from? I do have Logic Pro x but with about half as many as you ran throughout this video
That's what I was wondering
Hey, how come you don't put your plugins on a output track? And then send the instruments to appropriate output? Just watched your previous vid of how to prepare a mix for mastering, and you did that there. Peace < 3
Thank you! Everything from sausage fattening to side chain compressing.
sure thing
Man ..how Iwish I met ure channel earlier ..but its never too late they say.
Loved the video thank you! I learned a lot. I do have one question tho, Im confused about gain staging, so..
1. How does the Master limiter keep you in check when balancing things in the mix and not messing things up?
2. How does one know which level of RMS each instrument should be reaching (on their own) (just like you did with for example the kick 8:00)? In the end of my mixing the RMS is too low and my bass gets f’d anyway when exporting and nothing sounds like in my DAW
Thx u from Russia. bro!
Good stuff as always Sean, I really enjoyed this one. I was wondering, at what point do you compress things, other than side chaining kick and bass? I assume that with a smaller session lots of eq and compression aren't needed as much?
Thanks Markus! I'm not a huge fan of compression on the instrumentation for urban / electronic tracks. For me It's more about selecting the right sounds, layering and EQ. If I do compress anything in the beat I usually wait until I have the vocals (which I do a lot more compression to) and blend accordingly.
Awesome, thanks for sharing your approach. I'm still kinda new to working on these kinds of genres and am always looking for good insight on how to go about mixing these styles of music.
I actually listen to rock and metal but I do rap music with my brother. I have a bit more understanding of how to approach those kinds of music and am still trying to iron out my approach towards rap.
I gotta say, I really like your approach, it seems to be simplistic but still in-depth with excellent sounding results. I've learned some good stuff from watching your videos, especially on how to process hip hop vocals.
Keep up the awesome work!
glad to hear it Markus! Thanks :)
great stuff bro
I have few questions and I think answering them might help a lot of people
what should I do if logic doesn't allow me to click on the strip silence?
a also don't have the "Gain" option that you used in the very beginning ?
and what other in stock plugging or other waves pluggins that I can use for the kick instead of smack attack?
Thank you
Hey A.K go to preferences, advanced and make sure all options including "advanced tools" are checked
Great tips thanks for the video! Your kick drum channel is in stereo shouldn’t it be mono?
Not necessarily! Your kick sample may have some higher frequency content in stereo - I would usually mono out the low end of the entire mix below ~120hz, so it won't cause any issues.
I know you didn't use a drum bus compressor but should I use one if I'm mixing the final version of the song?
hey sean maybe you can help me.
Since ive startet watching your videos my mixes and masters are getting better and better.
my questions is. should i do my own beats to mix my vocals in? will it give me a more professional sound.
or should i use beats from youtube as i done this for 6 years now.
i have a good sound but its not the pro level and i think its about the beats which are mastered .
i also watched your video but i dont get the pro sound but a really nice sound
Hello Divine. Must you always mix beats in stems ??
I have always heard that a mix should be gained staged at the beginning of the mixing process. Some say that plugins have a sweet spot around 18 db in a VU meter. How does this type of mixing style translate to kick EQ for example when you are bringing the gain at a very high volume?
Put an indicator signal for the mouse so we see where or what your doing specifically on screen
Great video, I just have a question: on snare, why did you put the reverb first and on the same track as the main signal? And just after that you EQ it? I thought the corrective EQ should be first and the verbs are placed on the AUX/snare send? Or this is just the way you do things? Once again, great tut and thanks!
for complete mixing sessions (finished production, with vocals) I'm a strong advocate for aux tracks / bussing as you'll see in most of my videos... placing the reverbs as an insert here is more about committing to the sound, knowing the reverbs will be a specific "production" choice to many of the instrument tracks. As for the EQ, this was simply for the sake of time, although maybe not best practice for all situations ☺️
you are a fucking dope boy man. thank you very much. YOU ARE VALUE!
