    I learn something new every time. Thanks for the video! I realized I had a rigid mind set for my instrumental mixes and was applying a standard checklist of mix movers to tracks regardless if they needed it or not. Gonna restart the mix with a fresh mindset. Thanks again

    Another great one. Been watching all week instead of making more songs - trying to get the sound better. I love that you use Logic because it's hard to find great, concise info in one place for Logic users. Back to making music & will be practicing all these things. Keep it up!

    Hey Sean , thanks for the tips i enjoy your videos ! i have a question , i am also a logic pro user and i have been under the impression that it was almost a must to pan your snares and hat to either side to allow a little extra space for the kick/bass that is dead center , further more i noticed u left alot of your sounds in the center , am i possibly over panning my instruments ? , beacause i basically pan every thing except the 808/subs that stay dead center
    thank you greatly for your advice !

    • @SeanDivine
      @SeanDivine  Před 7 lety +1

      Hey Dun, glad to hear they are helpful! I don't follow any specific rules with panning. However, I would rarely (if ever) pan the snare at all. I would recommend leaving the kick and snare centered.

    Very helpful thank you. As far as eq goes, do you suggest doing eq on most tracks or can you get away w not doing it? Or would that result in such an unpleasant sounding track that no one would never not eq? What are some general rules of thumb and macro ways of understanding this for the track as a whole and then for individual tracks , and does it differ depending on whether it’s instruments tracks or vocal tracks?

    • @SeanDivine
      @SeanDivine  Před 5 lety +1

      there's no definite answer here but I typically EQ most channels - many are simply a hi pass, removing any bass frequencies that would stack up across tracks and muddy the mix. Use your ears and over time you will find what frequencies sound like overall and intuitively make decisions for instruments and vocals. Tons of videos on the channel that cover EQ in detail!

    • @SeanDivine
      @SeanDivine  Před 6 lety +1

      you should do what you feel comfortable with. That said, with a super conservative approach you'll always needs to rely on a master limiter, maximizer or mastering engineer to get your levels to compete!

    Okay, so the Stereo Out channel strip has me extremely curious. I have put an instrumental into Logic Pro X recently and I notice the Stereo Out channel strip is saying its clipping. Now I see from this video that all I need to do is apply a threshold type plugin to the Stereo Out channel strip to prevent the instrumental from going above 0 dB. But, I don't have OZone 5... so is there a stock plugin that can fix this issue?

    Hi Sean. Thank you for the video. Just one question : in the end we see that maximiser have squash peaks about 5 db and diagram jump on downbeat. Its okey ( sidechain effect? ) or better to avoid it?

    • @SeanDivine
      @SeanDivine  Před 6 lety +1

      you don't want to push it too much - if you hear distortion or audible clipping, then that's an issue. Otherwise, no rules. If it sounds good, it is good!

When your mixing where is the volume level on your studio monitors? and which one do you use ? i know you probably already named them but I've missed it. Most people leave there volume at unity but i know some people who max there monitor volume all the way and balance through there DAW's master fader.

    • @SeanDivine
      @SeanDivine  Před 7 lety +2

      Hey Rickey. If you're sending your material off for mastering, it's not a bad idea to leave some headroom. My mixing and mastering processes are usually one and the same so I push things pretty hot. I always say mix with your ears, not your eyes. As long as it's not audibly distorting I wouldn't worry too much about levels or clipping.
