growing up my father and i did not vibe...at all...until one day he came home with this new album...he put it on his hifi stereo system...you know, the tall case with the record player on top and the glass front door...he cranked it and we sat there and listened to the entire album and then listened to it again...no words were exchanged...we just sat there and totally enjoyed the moment...and that's how I became a pink floyd fan.

Lori, what seems like a lifetime ago I remember getting off the school bus and being excited to see that my dad was home (he traveled for work a lot) and getting inside and he'd have his record player going with either Animals, Dark Side of The Moon, or The Final Cut. I was too young to understand the lyrics but it I used to sit there with my dad and listen. 25 years later we went to see Roger Waters "The Wall" tour and subsequently the "Us+Them" tour. I understand your sentiment. I share it and even though my dad and I differ on a lot I am so happy to have had that time. Cheers to you Lori

Alan Parsons of The Alan Parsons project was the engineer for this album, he's the reason the album sounds so thicc and lush. He pioneered and popularized a lot of studio tricks that we take for granted today, such as looping, doubling vocals and instrument tracks.

Upon its release, The Dark Side of the Moon was a commercial and critical success. It topped the Billboard Top LPs & Tapes chart for a week, and remained on the chart for 741 weeks from 1973 to 1988 (14 Years). Following a change in methodology in 2009, the album re-entered the chart and has since appeared for over 900 weeks. With an estimated 45 million copies sold, it is Pink Floyd's most successful album and one of the best-selling worldwide.

At 17 years old (1973) One year after this album was released, I was at a club that was 100% soul music, R&B, Northern Soul etc and I would never listen to any other music genres. So, I walked a girl home to her apartment, the first girl I knew that had her own place. At the front door she asked me If I had heard 'Dark Side Of The Moon' and 'did I want to come in and listen to it'......UM! Let me think.... A beautiful young lady.....Coffee.....and ??.....hang on a minute...Rock Music? 'Let me think'.....'Yeah sure, I would love to hear it. This album was played non stop for the next three days and nights on a tiny record deck next to her bed. Sadly, we broke up a few years later. Do I like it now? Yes, seen them four times and the visuals are as good as the music. In 1988 CBS records offered me Bruce Springsteen BORN IN THE USA tour tickets, with hospitality etc etc. I called my wife and told her 'but I am not a fan' her reaction was 'TAKE THEM TAKE THEM' So I went to the gig at Wembley stadium and my jaw was on the floor for the next three and a half hours...WOW! Moral of the story is....open your doors to the unknown, you never know whats inside.

I was in my preteen years when I discover P.F. , back then my mind struggle to comprehend how such an amazing sound was actually created by human beings, to me, being so young at the time, it must've being created by beings from another world, lol...OK, I was like, 13 yrs old with a vivid imagination, lol..

Sounds weird. But I know just what you mean. It, and Tangerine Dream, got me like that. Music like that just couldn't come from mere humans. It was a kind of letdown when I started to find out about the guys in the band.
I have since come to the conclusion that the greatest art is much bigger than, and will exist independently, of its creator. Who cares that Mozart was an annoying little tosser, Dali was an arrogant bigot, etc... - they have gone and the art they left us is all that matters. Or, put simply, "Great art transcends its creator".

Rodger Waters lost his father in WW2 and it affected him very much, including his music. The reference to For the price of tea and a slice, the old man died, is just one example. Much of the wall is also shaped by his experience being raised by his mother. This song apparently was inspired to some degree by the story of how the German and Allied troops in WW1 trenches spontaneously stopped fighting on Christmas Eve and exchanged presents, Just ordinary men , who if they had their choice would not be there.
