      Suggest you do a statistical test on your die. SHDA dice all have a skew. There are some posts on bgg about how to do this and takes 10 minutes.
      Once you know, use it to your advantage, then your win % should increase. It can be viewed as "gaming the system", but the system was bad to begin with, after sufficient skill win rates should be >85%.

      If that is triggered by one team’s clearing the blip pile..I am not sure how the other team activating out of sequence would happen before the travel.

  • @wolvz7081
    @wolvz7081 Před 4 lety +1

    I’ve had this game for years and never got round to playing it until now. I used this video to learn the game rules and didn’t bother with the rule book expect for the Summary page so thanks for that. Great work.
    One question that I couldn’t work out but you may of mentioned it. Do I do the Event phase before Travelling even if I have zero Cards in the Blips pile? Long boring story, I activated a Teleportation terminal on a location that cleared both my Blips. I then did the rest of my actions, Genestealer attack then the Event phase but there was nothing to spawn from the Blips piles. So I traveled as the blip decks were empty. Felt like I’d gotten a breather. Did I play right?

    • @ModernTablegamer
      @ModernTablegamer  Před 4 lety +1

      @Benjamin Hall thanks for the feedback on the video. So to answer your question, you travel right after the phase where at least one of your blip piles are empty. So if a blip pile emptied during your action phase, then you would travel right after that. Place all the new location terrain, fill blip piles, and resolve any “upon entering” text on the location card. Then you would start the genestealer phase, followed by the event phase. So hopefully that answers your question. I’m going off memory soon after waking up :). Hopefully that helps.

    Correct me if I’m wrong but I think that at 7:05, after spawning the genestealers, you should have moved them, or at least mentioned the move icon, because it is also part of the activation area of the event card.

    • @ModernTablegamer
      @ModernTablegamer  Před 3 lety

      Hi Pedro. Good question. At 7:05 During the initial spawn in the set up of the game you just use the major and minor spawn area of the event card to see where your first genestealer spawn will take place so I didn't get into too much detail of the event card at this point... maybe I should have :) . Since Genestealer movement doesn't happen until the event phase of a player's turn,I cover this in-depth during the event phase section at 18:58. I hope this helps! Thanks!

    • @ModernTablegamer
      @ModernTablegamer  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Bruno, good question! You got me thinking on this one. After double checking the example on page 29 of the rules, I believe what is show in the video is correct (but I’ve been known to be wrong before 😄). It shows that the Genestealer remains in the slain Space Marines position and the terrain and genestealers from the smaller segment shift up to combine with what was already there (one genestealer). So everything from the adjacent position of the smaller segment just shifts to merge with whatever remains in the slain space marine’s position. Hope that makes sense.

      @@ModernTablegamer I think so, thank you! I have been thinking about this rule for some time to be honest, as I keep finding contradictory information online.
      The one thing that I still find confusing is that when a marine dies at the top or bottom of the formation, the terrain and Genestealers in the empty space shift down or up, respectively, which makes me wonder why you wouldn't shift them when this happens in other parts of the formation.

  • @israeljesuslopez3833

    Hi, each time I played this game I have more questions.... I was reading the rulebook and watching this tutorial and I have this inquiry. Relating to the moving + acting card, you have the gray card, which means only the grey team is allowed to move and activate. So, you switch one grey for one orange card. Once moved each card, you are allowed to change the facing either for the gray and the orange marine, right? Also, in the onward brothers (move+activate card) states "each time 1 of your space marines activates a Door, your may place 1 additional support token on the terrain card. This means I am allowed to set two support cards in the door each time one of my orange marines activates the door, right?

    • @ModernTablegamer
      @ModernTablegamer  Před 3 lety +2

      Good questions. I did some re-examination of the rule book to refresh my memory on this. anyone, feel free to correct me here but this is what I believe the intent of the rules are. When you take move and activate, you first move the space marines of the combat team (let's say grey), when that is done, you may change the facing of either space marine of the grey combat team and then you may activate each marine in the combat team if able. So in your example, just the grey team would be able to change facing for your first question. For When you activate a door for instance with the onward brothers card, you would place two support tokens on a door instead of one. However, a terrain card can only be activated once per round. Hope this helps!

For SHDA these should just be standard US size cards. Hope this helps1

  • @kosterix123
    @kosterix123 Před 3 lety

    1:50 it's easier to shuffle the 9 cards then draw until you have a 2,3,4
    6:00 not for a door/ventilation duct, but for a card that has the same battery image in its top left.
    23:00 the door thing is unclear from your explanation and from the manual.
    A pity you didn't film the next location and how that works.
    In the genestealer phase, let's say the bottom two marines have a swarm each. If the next-to-last swarm has attacked and killed a marine, the formation shifts up, so the last marine shifts up, and the swarm next to where the last marine was shifts up as well - to join the next-to-last swarm. But that moving swarm hasn't attacked yet, although the swarm it now belongs to has attacked already.
    Does the swarm attack again? I think so, but unclear.
    Rulebook is bad: Activate and Slay are undefined. Anyway, the marines are falling like flies, this game may be good, but it's not for me.
    I posted a nuanced review on bgg which caused a lot of hateful comments from people and then without warning a total eradication of my bgg account. Thankfully I still have my review.
    Note: do not ever post anything negative on SHDA on bgg.

    Hi, thank you for the video. I am about to play my first game of SHDA, and I am really excited. I do have a question about Move+Activate, as I keep finding conflicting information online. To the best of my knowledge, if you move card-A and card-B, they switch places, you can then change the facing position of both cards and activate two terrains (as long as they are different ones. Does this make sense to you?
    Source: boardgamegeek.com/thread/1749114/changing-facing

    • @ModernTablegamer
      @ModernTablegamer  Před 4 lety +3

      HI Bruno, what you say makes sense. Yes, when you take a move and activate, this only applies to the space marines that are in the same combat team as the action (space marines that are the same color as the action). You can move one or both of these space marines. When you move, you trade spaces with an adjacent space marine in the formation. After moving is complete, then you have the option to change the facing of either of the space marines in the combat team (even if they didn't move). Then each space marine of the combat team can activate terrain that is in the same position and that they are facing (terrain can only be activated once per turn). Hope this helps and thanks for the comment!
