I've been waiting decades to see them interact... sadly Lucasfilm has failed us all and fans had to set up these two characters basically perfect for each other.

You could make arguments about the models and voice work not being AAA standard, but you cannot beat the presentation. This FEELS like Star Wars. The music, the staging, the lines, the visuals, everything feels like Star Wars more than any of the trash Disney has pumped out. Thank you for keeping the EU alive with your work.
Yeah, I hope he considers getting some upgrades in the voice acting department, because he's making leaps and bounds visually, it's making the sound look bad!
Hmm I do enjoy some of the Disney stuff, especially the animated series and live action 'tales in the galaxy' type shows. Middling on the new trilogy, its popcorn worthy. I would looove it if Disney would make the Thrawn Trilogy, although it may have to be animated at this point. All they would have to do is give a "Legends" label or "Tales of Star Wars".
In another timeline I would loved the following: Animated shows -> Shadows of The Empire, Thrawn Trilogy ; Live Action -> Boba Fett Trilogy, New Jedi Order (with Jaina Solo played by Daisy Ridley)
Anyways this is pretty cool in the absence of 'dream team' big production animation and film.
Excellently put johnsmithjr.9321, I feel the Disney content often receives an unjust amount of hate simply because the Mainline movies did not deliver on amazing content like this, whereas the truth of the matter is that most of the animated series are very good indeed, the live action shows often above-average as well, The Mandalorian and Andor being prime examples, also very much agree on your suggestions that if they were to make an heir to the empire series it would have to be animated now, my personal hopes is for the Ahsoka series we're getting soon shows Ahsoka finding Ezra on Myrkr, as a little nod to this Legends material with the Ysalamiri blocking his connection to the force, which would explain how no one has been able to find him in so long and how Thrawn has been able to regain power in the Outer Rim.
@@jakohara6789 I refer you to all of the treatment Disney has given the fans over the past 8 years regarding the franchise and their work on the High Republic. Also, Filoni is an overrated hack.

The vast majority of the fanbase loves him, except for you hardcore, old EU fanboys, who don't like anthing star wars except the OG triology and old EU, You couldn't even make anything better yourselves, in terms of the amount of people loving it, even with Disney's funds, although I do think fan films are the future, but only because of the insane amount of content that would be made, if it was open source and not owned by Disney.
Talon Karde is one of EU fascinating characters. I love seeing him play the neutral position when dealing with both parties. When reading the book, I would feel bad for him when he's backed into a corner especially when Thrawn see through his plan.
I usually imagine Johnathan Frakes when reading him. A conflict of franchises. 😆

Well, I can imagine that after "Where No Man Has Gone Before", Captain Kirk never looked at the Mustafar duel the same way again. And to the Tamarians, "Obi-Wan and Anakin at Mustafar" would mean "Friends becoming mortal foes."
The graphic look like they really improved this episode. Loved the outdoor shots and I feel Mara Jade looks better too (haven't gone back to see how she looked earlier). I feel like Luke could use an upgrade. But great making these videos. Can't imagine the time it takes to do all this.

When I first saw that, I was like, of course Mara Jade would stick to the shadows and keep a fair distance from Luke. There's no way she'd let Luke turn the tables on her.
The woman knows how to operate tactically to such a degree it's just second nature to her, like breathing is for the rest of us.
This is where the fun begins
Thank you for making these, the first cple were slightly clunky, and I had to get used to all the character voices. But this series has literally improved so much! It's turned into like watching a dream come true: an Heir to the Empire animated series😊 Lucasfilm are idiots for not capitalizing off this series, it's one of the most influential material to come out of the sw franchise. Gworge Lucas literally gained inspiration to make the prequels from this work of art. But that's cool, cuz now u get to do it lol, and it's awesome. Anyways, ty for bringing this series into reality! I hope they're many more episodes to come!!
Honestly, it's a good thing Disney didn't, because this series is much more faithful to the books than any big screen adaptation would be.
Pray that Disney did not make another woke garbage from a top material...!

Disney had this story on a silver platter, it’s sad that they didn’t take advantage over what they had. Then again George Lucas would of been pissed for the cannon addition of Mara Jade.
Who cares what George Lucas wanted. He forced Jar Jar Binks on us all, so it's only fair to let the rest of us have Mara Jade Skywalker in return.
Any more than the sequel trilogy surely must have pissed him off? Lol

Thanks for keep working on the Star Wars story that basically re-started the whole franchise.
I STILL don't understand why Disney refuses to use Mara Jade in any fashion.
Probably two reasons:
1 - there are legit IP issues and financial issues that would need to be resolved before Disney could use the EU characters and plots.
2 - the fact that Mara Jade is a strong female character that does not come across as a man. This is a ideological decision by Disney.
Disney has to pay royalties to people like Zahn. They would much rather make their own new characters and these stories don't move their ideological needle forward enough. Frankly after all the dumpster fires that Disney has created with Star wars I really don't want them to touch this trilogy or anything from the EU.

@@MM22966 they used Thrawn because he's one of most beloved star wars villains, or just a cash cow because money is everything that matters since 2014, after they didn't consult Zahn with the rebels Thrawn I really fear they'll do likewise with his live action appearances...
Luke and Mara are my favorite fictional couple of all time and I have obviously been dying to finally see this chapter for forever, so imagine my disappointment when this notification popped up while I was at work 😭 Mara looks phenomenal, though! I'm absolutely floored, her character model is gorgeous and the lighting during the intro was just _chef's kiss_ The tension between her and Luke is communicated so well with just the visuals alone. Honestly I'm still trying to process seeing her and Luke in the same frame together in the first place 😆 Technically speaking I think this whole project is their first onscreen appearance together despite this being a fan work, so needless to say I'm freaking out. Time to hit the replay button lmao
Me too, I only discovered this yesterday and had no idea it existed. As a fan of the books, this is really cool to watch even if its not a big budget production. I love how Luke acts much the same as he did after RoTJ, more mature and stoic, still hopeful if somewhat uncertain on how to move forward. The depiction is somewhat similar in the Disney stuff where he is initially focused on finding anything Yoda left behind to train a new era of Jedi, we know he becomes more hopeful after meeting Mara Jade, the perfect counterpart, training Leia, Leia and Han having twins, and other Jedi and Force Sensitives coming out of hiding. He throws out the dogma of the original order to bring about the 'new' as Obi-Wan told him.

Bravo. I read all the SWEU books when I was a kid. I was so disappointed when Disney just snubbed that whole idea and went with their new concept.
To be hones,t some good things like The Mandalorian and Fallen Order came out of it. If Lucasfilm had smarter management, they’d use Legends as an alternate reality.
Finally... The scene I was only too excited to finally see. Their first face to face encounter. A worthy opponent, a worthy ally, and eventually his partner an love interest. This is so much better than what Disney gave as as a sequel! Thank you!

Amazing work on Mara Jade. Just like what CG did with the SWGOH version.
Great opening shot of Mara Jade and while not a Coruscanti accent (which makes sense that Mara is trained to have dozen of accents she can fall into for her cover identities) the voice actress nails her tone perfectly.
Overall, I loved it! Great job doing Luke and Mara's first meeting.
I just hope she gets sleeves later on for her trademark hidden blaster if you complete the rest of the trilogy one day.

@@dotista2008 in theory it's upperclass British accents. It's the lore reason why Obi-wan Kenobi (alec guinness) has a British accent and so many Imperials.

As I am almost done reading the Legacy of The Force series, its nice seeing the Luke of before that always tried to be civil and wasn't demanding. I like Legends Luke, but Zahn's Luke is really close to how I think the perfect Luke is.
Agreed. You can see a mature Jedi looking for non-violent options. Zahn understood the character and mythos.
‘You’re very generous with other people’s money’ remains one of my favourite Karrde lines and it was delivered so beautifully ❤
Also, Mara is amazing in this.
The graphics and animation look amazing in this one!! My favorite parts:
-The light and dark playing across Mara’s face as she’s talking to Luke
-Mara’s costume and character design-looks awesome!
-First frame of Karrde flanked by his two “dogs”
-Karrde’s cool control of the situation and reveal of the yslamir
-The foreshadowing of the challenges to be faced trying to escape through the forest-excited for these next few chapters!
-Overall, just loved it! Thank you again for bringing this Star Wars story to life!

Very nice work!! I‘ve read the „Katana“ trilogy and also listened to it as an audiobook. You did a great job putting this CG together and capturing the atmosphere. Talon and Mara look exactly like how you would imagine them. Especially great job on Mara.

It is indeed cool to see the various characters here interact and counter-negotiate with each other. None of them are directly antagonistic but just have differing goals. Plus, they all remain quite civilized by the Kenobi standard. I look forward to the next installment.

Fantastic job! You’ve really stepped things up with the facial animation! The slight head movements and expressions add so much. Talon Karrde really steals the show in this chapter! It might sound silly, but I think my favorite moment is at 2:08, Karrde’s idle animation looks so good! Mara Jade looks great too!

Cant believe I only just now find this! Heir to the Empire is by far my most beloved EU story of all time.
Love the awesome work, that´s been put in over the years, with the voice acting and the animations. Especially this lastest chapter where graphics have improved and yet still give a vibe of authentic 90s early 00s video game cutscenes. Suits the series great, especially when keeping in mind the books origin back in the 90s.
I'm looking forward to seing the rest of this project!

There were a couple spots where Mara was rendered so well she looked real. The blurring effect around the 5m mark where she's supposed to be coming into focus was pretty good.

I am very impressed with this. I like how you have improved the physical appearances of the characters and the scenery. The moment where Luke meets Mara for the first time is just the way the novel describes it. I can't wait for more installments of "Heir to the Empire", and I sincerely hope you do "The Hand of Thrawn" duology with the same care that you do with "Heir to the Empire". 😀

This was awesome! I'm loving the outdoor scenes and the shots of Mara with the sunlight coming in on her face is just wow! This chapter actually made me think a bit more about Karrde and his actions in helping Luke, like I always assumed he thought he could play both sides and come out okay but now listening to the dialogue it makes it seem like he knew it was all about to go to shit. Cheers.
What saddens me is how many souls, who do not take the time to read, have missed out on one of the greatest extended universe stories ever told. Of course Champions of the Force was my next favorite. I am waiting for, "Kill Skywalker!" Thanks again.

OH, MY WORD!!!! This is so good!!!! Honestly, this is one of my favorite chapters of the book. Luke and Mara finally meet (my favorite couple EVER), we get to see the compound, we get to see how the ysalamiri effects Luke . . . It's all so good. I saw the Wilde Karrde, but is that the Etherway next to it? Or the Starry Ice? Either way, fantastic as usual! Keep up the good work!!
The visuals have been improved significantly. Mara in particular, though maybe that's my bias for one of my favorite EU characters coming through

I adore the outdoor model work in this episode and Mara looks fabulous.
The animation has definitely improved. On the other hand, there’s still more to be done. The lip-syncing feels just a little off at times, and for some characters, it just feels like the voice is not coming from the body,
