  • Being a mother and a champion was a crazy dream. But it didn’t have to be. Olympic runner Alysia Montano had accomplished all her dreams but one: being a mom. When she finally went for it, she faced her biggest challenge yet - her sponsors.
When Montano approached her sponsor to announce her pregnancy, they told her that they would just pause her contract. She famously ran a national championship and eight months pregnant to prove that pregnant women could compete. Now, she’s speaking out so that no one has to suffer like she did.

After we published this video , another Nike athlete is speaking out. Allyson Felix has been one of Nike's most marketed athletes, but they won't give her maternity protections. This is her story: czcams.com/video/aLk5znZljTI/video.html

@EveryDay Exactly. She's not an employee of Nike's. They're not at all obligated to do anything beyond pay her for her sponsorships. What is it with women and their damned sense of entitlement?

    • @karelp5358

They want to sign up a contract that has maternity rights. I wondered if she can sign a contract in a European country or in Canada and not in the country that treats women like trash during maternity and a health system that you can go bankrupt? This is not a Nike or sports problem. If you were a woman engineer in the USA, it would be the same problem. And she is not special just for being famous.

@ACS402010 @EveryDay Forget the sponsorships for a moment and look bigger picture on this matter. Alysia Montana is more than a runner. She is a person just like you, me and everyone else and therefore NIKE and ASICS should go above and beyond in treating her like such. Alysia Montana is not just some business transaction. She, again, is a person and she should be looked out for as such. Maternity leave and healthcare should be provided for professional women athletes and working women period.

Here in Canada, we have 1 year maternity leave or 9 months parental leave when you have a baby. (Maternity leave only applies to the mother who gives birth while parental leave applies to the father or adoptive parent, in the case of adoption)
And about the issue of abortion, I feel like it’s pushed onto women as being the best was to deal with the problem... as if a baby is a “problem”... a challenge, yes, but not a problem. There need to be more women speaking up for their babies. Creating a baby inside of you is the most empowering gift you have as a woman.

@@keishabrown3672 Ignorance in my comment 🤔! Where did I state that they don't give you maternity leave? I am speaking about working conditions. So if you don't understand, save your comments✌️

@@blessedandequippedbygod5712 I think Keisha Brown was responding to the ignorant response of 100,000 subs and no vids who, sounds like, spends too much time spreading and listening to ignorance all day, everyday.

@100,000 subs and no videos Maternity leave isn't a vacation?? Do you think mothers are going to Bali on holiday during that 9 months??? Parenting is pretty much a full time job... maybe more. And you know the aging population is already a problem in a lot of countries. If the old outnumber the young and a large majority of the population are in no shape to work, society will be in trouble.

Vinh Tran - Not really. She literally ran 8 months into her pregnancy. Imagine if she fainted or fell ill or got injured. Baby could have just died straight up or been born with permanent health problems. Then Nike would have been blamed for “pushing it too far”

@@astodone9022 Some people see challenges and obstacles and they run through them, at least they attempted. Some people are comfortable with the standards and rules others have set for them/ on them and that's also fine as well. We all cannot be strong or be conforming to the rules society has set. If you're comfortable living in the world of what if, what could, and what would happened and you would not do what this superhuman mother did, then that's your life, that's absolutely acceptable as well.

Vinh Tran - women can’t outrun men, buddy. 5 seconds into the video and the woman is babbling about how men and women can compete against each other lol what a joke... 15 year old untrained teenagers regularly CRUSH the women’s world records in sprinting and running. And not just running.
Toughest man in the world can deadlift 800 lb. while the toughest woman in the world can deadlift a world record of 500 lb... Men and women are just not on the same level physically and it’s really not a “boundary” that can be broken. Men just naturally produce the steroid Testosterone lol if a woman were to inject testosterone she would grow a beard and have massive biceps
