As a man who has been cheated on. When it comes out of left field this is a more realistic reaction than yelling and screaming. It's a mix of confusion, betreyal, disbelief, anger, and bitterness. When I found out my voice was calm, but I was absolutely furious. Very similar to this scene. Thank God we weren't married, and had no children together. THAT'S where it really gets ugly.
If there are no children yet you should be happy, you dodged a bullet - or maybe a cannon shell...
Yes.
You wanna know what’s crazy. I was cheated on behind my back for like a month and she had changed this dudes name on snap to her cousins name and gaslighted me the whole time saying I was “too insecure to worry about her cousin” eventually I had to find out on my own (found the real dude on snap) and got the information from him about what they had been doing. Then I freaked out on her because she had caused me to go in a big depression from all the gaslighting and making me think I was actually insecure. When I was yelling and cussing her out she then said “I reacted in the wrong manner and it scared her” and said it was a red flag.

It is a very good way of handling a situation. Most people would rather gloat over a small issue and be emotional but being calm is very reassuring
For those who didn't watch the movie, she is an actress who cheated on him with, I think, her co actor. He already had suspicions of her cheating, but they decided to take a vacation to the UK at a cabin, that neither of them booked but thought the other did. It was here that his suspensions of her cheating were confirmed. She leaves for the town but sees a shadowy figure while leaving.
Kevin Bacon then gets another written message in his journal telling him he should have left, too. Now, he and his daughter are trapped at the house and can not leave. He calls her to come back, and she does to get their daughter, but he can't leave the house. It turns out that she was his second wife. His first wife died by drowning. He was blamed and charged for it but acquitted. It turns out he didn't kill his first wife but watched her drown and did nothing to help her. And now the devil shall have his way with him.

How irresponsible can she get? She betrays him and then cannot even be humble enough to at least accept the consequences? Instead, she insists that he gives up even more... what an insane follow-up. He cannot heal that way, and she cannot focus on mending what she broke unless she is put in the position where it's crystal clear what the consequences feel like. Why should the good one be put in that position? Why should he take anymore punishment while she already took too much of the reward? If anyone's gonna be the main parent, it's gonna be the person who never betrayed. That's pure logic. The moment she acted out the betrayal she should've known that loss of freedom would be the consequence. Just like you know that any crime lands you in jail. You don't get to talk your way out of it.
