This is another great British group from the 60's during the Merseybeat scene. They had a lot in common with The Beatles as they both came from Liverpool, were managed by Brian Epstein, and were recorded by George Martin. They had a lot of great hits such as "Don't Let The Sun Catch You Crying", "How Do You Do It?", "I Like It", "I'll Be There", "Ferry Cross The Mersey" etc. Sadly the lead singer Gerry Marsden died last year.

The song was written by Rodgers and Hammenstein back in the 1940s for the musical Carousel.

My bff’s brother was a quadriplegic from an accident in his early 20’s. He used to sing, “You’ll Never Walk Again”. I was beyond dumbfounded when I heard him sing it.

A great song Gerry and the Pacemakers. They had many more hits durint the 1960s, although sadly as of November 2023, all four original members of the band are no longer with us.
    Gerry Marsden (1942-2021)
    Les Chadwick (1943-2019)
    Les Maguire (1941-2023)
    Freddie Marsden (1940-2006)

In memory of Hillsborough disaster, incident in which a crush of football (soccer) fans ultimately resulted in 97 deaths and hundreds of injuries. The crushing occurred during a match at Hillsborough Stadium in Sheffield, England, on April 15, 1989. The disaster was largely attributed to mistakes made by the police. An FA Cup semi-final match was scheduled between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest An FA Cup semi-final match was scheduled between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest. Peace out.

You emphasize a shocking disaster, but tell me, why are you connecting it arbitrarily to this song without reason ?

@@jameswiglesworth5004 Jerry and the Pacemakers come from Liverpool this song is Liverpool's club song sang at every game by Liverpool fans even when they played in Australia in a friendly game the crowd sang the song. Peace out.

@@jameswiglesworth5004 The connection is massive. Gerry Marsden led the crowd at the 20th anniversary service in memory of the victims. It's been described as the soundtrack of the triumphs and the solace in disaster (Heysel, Hillsborough). When it's sung, the people remember past victories and sorrows. The title is on the crest of the club. The reactions of the current manager, Jurgen Klopp, to the 60th anniversary of its release, tell the story of the connection of the song and the club. czcams.com/video/btwqhOjJZ5M/video.html. In another place, he talks about "Other teams have songs, we have an anthem." #YNWA

I'd like to see someone react to Gerry & The Pacemakers, for a change, instead of a bunch of football fans who hijacked an old song, & assume they're the only ones associated with it!
I'm not a football fan myself, but I DO enjoy music, so let's have the 'music-version' for a change, not the football version!

Unbelievable. You obviously know nothing about the backstory here, the the tragedy that this song commemorates and the raw emotional solidarity it conveys for the Liverpool people. Gerry Marsden was a local icon for these folk and this song is about much more than football, you can see it in the faces of the people in the video. For God's sake, educate yourself before muttering such a tone-deaf opinion.
