The thing is, the story revolves around Kurapika, Gon, Killua and Leorio and hxh is just a show going back and forth between their mini adventures. Sometimes focusing on Gon and Killua, sometimes Kurapika and Leorio. We saw a lot of Gon and Killua in greedd island and chimera ant arc, but in the arc that starts in the manga the focus is mostly on Kurapika and a bit on Leorio as well

This is what makes Death note so good. Even though Light is the main character you root for L. Light is such a cool and interesting character but L is the heart. So I TOTALLY relate to Robs reaction. You're not alone... And yeah, Light did "win" but he had to rely on a shinigami to do so which proves to show what a badass L was.

It really doesnt work that way necessarily. I loved the chess game in death note, but i did quit Code Geass after 13 episodes bc i wasnt fond of the character designs, mecha thing and the mind games didnt match death note at all, at least when comparing the first 13 episodes of both shows.
