  • If you ever wondered HOW intakes make power, this is the video for you. We unbox, install, and dyno the K&N Intake for the 2022 BRX / GR86. We talk about the MAF sensor, airflow, and all that you need to know when choosing, installing and tuning your intake.
    Enjoy!

    That last bit about A/F measurements before and after a part installation... I'm subscribed now. This has been extremely informative backed by real world results. That is an unexpected amount of detail and transparency. Thank you SOOOOO much for such a high quality video. Amazing job!!

    I'm happy to see the gain, and I'd be grateful if you guys could do more comparison tests like other carbon intake system (GruppeM, Blitz, etc.).

    I would really like to thank you for creating such detailed videos for the new gen twins.
    I also appreciate how everything is backed up by dyno data and how you explain such complex tuning topics in simple terms for the average joe.
    Thank you! Looking forward to future videos.

    Thanks for the great collection of videos on the gr86. I got the k&n intake thanks to you, but also bought the velosatech snorkel.

    Just got my 2023 BRZ a month ago and looking forward to modding it in the next few years. Interested in your shop since you seem to specialize in the BRZ!

    Thank you so much for all these scientific tests for the community. The difference in pipe ID at the maf area (yet giving similiar datalogged values) could be due to the stock maf being at the vena contracta area (ie the narrowing of flow just after every pipe entry) since its just after the "bell mouth" of the stock filter box. Thus the flow is seeing a smaller effective pipe ID (which happens to be the actual physical pipe/collar insert ID of the K&N.
    The community would love you if you can do this datalog test on the other competiting enclosed aftermarket air filters, eg AFE Power (which happens to have the maf also down stream similar in location to the K&N.
    Lastly, there is quite some talk about how the three (helmholtz) resonators along the stock intake track helps with bumping power at certain rev ranges (as opposed to just sound) but no scientific tests so thats something the community would appreciate for sure...

    • @stratifiedauto
      @stratifiedauto  Před rokem +2

      I did not notice dips or troughs in the powerband after putting the intake in. I played around with the resonators as well. However there are distinct changes in the sound of the intake without them at different rpm ranges.

    • @kiangloongng1322
      @kiangloongng1322 Před rokem +2

      @@stratifiedauto just the assurance i need to do away with the stock intake! Was afraid i will expose holes in the powerband when i remove the stock intake and resonators.

  • @escargod

    I liked the explanation of how a MAF works. Generally a six inch rule applies to having the tubing be the same ID and of similar straightness/curvature prior to the sensor. That is if you want to avoid a tune.

    • @stratifiedauto
      @stratifiedauto  Před rokem +1

      Perhaps something like a ram air would help but it takes away from the radiator and cooling stack real estate.

  • @jameson7235
    @jameson7235 Před 11 měsíci

    Have you guys tried removing the charcoal filter with the BRZ/GR86 on the dyno ? I've heard that just by removing the charcoal filter gives basically the same output when putting an aftermarket filter.

    • @stratifiedauto
      @stratifiedauto  Před 11 měsíci +1

      No but we tried removing the filter altogether in one of our videos. That made no difference.

  • @jackwicker
    @jackwicker Před rokem

    For the sake of comparison, did the stock airbox have the charcoal filter removed? There have been a lot of videos showing similar dyno gains just from removing the charcoal filter. If these gains are versus the factory airbox minus the charcoal filter, that's awesome. But, if the factory airbox still had the charcoal filter it's possible that any gains are more or less illusory.

    • @stratifiedauto
      @stratifiedauto  Před rokem +3

      Check our earlier video where we removed the air filter out of the stock intake.

  • @beterbarker
    @beterbarker Před 4 měsíci

    You guys should test the perrin cold air intake for this car. They claim that it has the same inner diameter as the stock intake, so it shouldn't need a maf sensor re-calibration in the tune. I'm curious if that intake has any benefits on a stock tune, or if you would still need a tune to see any benefits.

    • @stratifiedauto
      @stratifiedauto  Před 4 měsíci

      Would be interesting to see. It’s hard to imagine making a lot more power than this but won’t be able to tell until we test!

  • @fallenstatus
    @fallenstatus Před rokem +1

    would you consider turbo or supercharging the car? I know HKS is making a GT2 supercharger kit which makes around 300hp to the crank

    • @stratifiedauto
      @stratifiedauto  Před rokem +2

      Absolutely. We will use it in time attack this year and for classing purposes and track purposes NA is best. But for a street car forced induction would be lots of fun.

    • @stratifiedauto
      @stratifiedauto  Před rokem +2

  • @boost331
    @boost331 Před rokem

    Did the stock airbox have the charcoal pad in it still? If so that is where your restriction came from. Most likely could have had the same gains for free removing the pad.

    • @stratifiedauto
      @stratifiedauto  Před rokem

      It did. We did testing on the stock intake removing the air filter altogether on the last video.

    Man, I don't know what you're doing with your mic, but it's buzzy as hell. Both the video from 6 months ago and this one. I don't know if you're clipping or if it's just a bad mic, but maybe try turning the input gain down and then boost it back up in post.

    ...basically, waste of money (as already proven by Australian & European tuners)... If you do it, purchase Perin intake - the filter is at the very front... O yea, there is an amazing sound... and that's it.

      Once the hood closes it does shield the intake from hot air.
