Awesome comparisons of the power curves and previous dyno runs. That context is so valuable!
Glad it’s helpful!
Great video! Just got my 22’ BRZ a few weeks ago and I love it.
Awesome car!
That EL looks pretty promising for a daily driver/weekend blaster, incredible how much torque it puts out at 2-3k rpm, one strong feature of the fa20 that has carried over and improved alot. Really looking forward to the possibilities with the tuning, some cam timing changes should be needed here..
Definitely needs tuning and especially to address the torque dip if going the EL route.
I can't wait for more parts to come out that are specifically for the fa24. I honestly think it's going to be slow going though. I know the US isn't the entire world but we have to have the largest car market. I looked up the sales numbers and if you combine the 86 and brz sales, it's almost right at 5,000. There just isn't enough of the gen 2's on the road yet for some of the smaller companies to develop parts. I cannot freaking wait to put a header on and get a tune. There are a few decent options for exhaust but until there is an easy tuning solution, there won't be anything like intakes, headers, ect for the fa24 specifically
the equal length header has me really interested now because if you're pushing the car you're never below that 3.8-3.9k rpm range anyways. Cool.
Would love to see this comparison with 2023 model, plus a comparison chart of the OEM to both Equal and unequal headers would be NICE 👌
We have the OEM headers on video as well. I don’t think the 2023 model had any changes engine wise.
And now to see the tuned dynos! Can't wait. Untuned I'd rather have the uel for the sound as well as the flatter torque delivery. I think it's ok to sacrifice a few ponies and torque personally
I agree. That dip you can really feel when untuned.
so is the difference coming more from the EL to UEL or from the 4-1 to 4-2-1?
You didn't mention how much the OEM headers weigh. Do you have that information?
How about my Mitsubishi outlander 07 v6 has a stocked uel headers if i change it to aftermarket exhaust uel do i need to tune/remap afterwards?
What’s the inner diameter of the 2022 brz overpipe?
I can’t find this information anywhere.
Thanks for your review..
I think equals headers healthier for the engine and lets the cylinders work at equal return pressure.
So , TOMEI is the better one
Are you planning on boosting the 2022 Brz? Along with do you think that the 2.4 engine would line up and be an identical engine swap with the previous generation? Looking to do it personally.
I think it will swap over. Eventually we may get to boosting it depending on where it gets to via tuning and other parts.
Can you do a 4-1 vs 421 equal length comparison?
Yeah, it would be interesting to see the comparison to a 4-2-1 header. I remember that the ACE 4-2-1 header was the "hotness" back in the early days of the FT86 but I don't know if that has been surpassed by other designs since then.
Please Test the Ace Header!
Its $2000 and out of production.
I know you guys are definitely busy, but do you think you could dyno this combo: intake filter, catback and catless front pipe?
We will pick this back up soon.
Hopefully companies are going to release headers optimized for the new engine to get it breathing better and sounding better.
on top of that XD....we will see ppl adapting them to their FA20. Which really drives this platforms progression home
The engine is the same and the exhaust setup dimensions as well. There's no reason to make custom fa24 parts, the fa24 is really just a fa20 with some refinement and minor changes as well as being bored out to 2.4L, 90% of parts on these cars are easily retrofitted.
@@Toymonkeyjr If it’s been bored out it’s not the same engine. It’s moving more air. The more air that comes in the more air that needs to go out.
@@skiddlyd.244 Literally, but not really. Then you could say the same about every refresh as well.
@@Toymonkeyjr Do you know what the word literally means because you’ve contradicted yourself. The engine literally moves more air so it really needs more free flowing exhaust with optimal scavenging so the cylinders can expel the exhaust and fill cylinders with the most air and fuel possible. That’s basic engine stuff.
How safe is it to drive around untuned with EL or UEL uncharted headers? I’m terms of the engine not knocking or blowing up
It is safe, AFRs are same as stock. With a tune you will get better results of course.
I would love to see a Tomei or JDL UEL header tested. I have a feeling it may flow a little bit better than the Borla. Great work though guys. Keep it up!
I will have the JDL UEL on my 2022 very shortly
@@SIMMONSRACING Hi Simmons - how does your BRZ compare to your s2000?
@@SIMMONSRACINGI had JDL UELs on my last BRZ. Loved them.
@@backroadblast6603Did you get it tuned right away? I’m on the fence with JDL or Tomei headers atm.
@@beautyfiendchik77 I did. Just being cautious. Night and day for drivability.
No longer have the car, but I do miss that rumble.
EL for the win, sounds like a rally car with the EL and overall way better power band, those things love to be revved. Curious to see how the new 2.4 responds to some tuning snd benefits from e85
Should respond as well as the 2.0
@@stratifiedauto would the stock fuel system handle the extra demand of running full e85? Or pump and ported injectors would need to be upgraded
So since the Aftermarket Headers from Gen 1 is interchangeable. Does the exhaust port of the 2.0 and 2.4 the same diameter?
It is from our measurements.
Can you do the Ace 350 on the 2.4 please?
Need to get a set. But really you want to pair these with tuning.
Do you know if the new front pipe flows better? Does it have a larger diameter? Less cells?
Will have to measure. Soon.
now i wonder how to remove the CEL. just installed my UEL. and CEL poped up.
You can get a de-fouler and it should get rid of it after a cel reset.
I assume that companies are gonna make new headers for the gen 2, right?
Hard to say. I am sure some will try and tweak designs for the larger displacement.
What you think of catless UEL ? Should I do it ? The result would be the same as Catted one or just do EL catless or catted ? Honestly don't know what to choose for my 22 BRZ
Each header will be a bit different and should be tuned for to optimize. In general the uel gets rid of torque dip and el has better top end.
@@stratifiedauto I will wait till a tune come out and see both headers with tune on the dyno
Are you opting for the Borla UEL or the Tomei EL for this build?
We kept the borla. The torque dip is gone and we added top end with the catback.
I was told the tomei EL headers don’t fit the 22’ model, were they wrong?
As you can see …
@@stratifiedauto is there anyway to clear the CEL it will throw due to the lack of a cat?
Let me know when you have tuning available not touching my car till I know all the parts can be optimized
Looking forward to this. I’ve been bugging EcuTek about it
@@stratifiedauto well I’ll be one of your first customers when it becomes available
@@stratifiedauto Have they any estimates on how long it might take?
5 hp?
250whp with only headers that’s so good compared to the old model
New motor has lots of torque everywhere.
i mean a bolt on HKS SC only makes like 50 HP on the 2L. To think Once UEL headers engineered with an ideal exhaust diameter/flow for this engine start coming out this thing can make great usable/streetable power as a daily/weekend warrior. Too bad i still need a cat in CALI hopefully it wont get that costly or else id feel compelled to throw on a bolt on SC to the 2.4L depending on cost/viability aspects.
Its not 4 - 2 - 1 design because each head is only 2 ports. So its a 2 to 1 design.
4-2-1 design would be from a single 4 port head, 4 runners to 2 runners to 1 runner.
There are 4 primaries, going into 2 secondaries, merging into 1, no?
@@ellisjackson3355 Yes there "are" 4-2-1 headers that come from a normal 4 cylinder or 8 cylinder motor but not from this specific motor.
This motor has 2 different heads and each head has ONLY 2 pistons so its header would be identified as 2 to 1 header on each side.
I see where you're coming from. But it's a one piece header, not a pair of 2-1's combined.
@@ellisjackson3355 its a 4-2-1 by a technicality because its a 1 piece but to an engine builder or mechanic, its not a 4-2-1 design on a 2 port head.
but uel sounds more subaru than el
But the aftermaket headers are catless, aren’t they?
Yes. The car does still have a secondary downstream catalyst.
@@stratifiedauto Yes, but may the power increase is just from go catless, not the design or size of the headers
@@krisztianszabo3105 This video is comparing the power band between two different catless headers, not necessarily the power gain from stock.
@@krisztianszabo3105there were people modifying the stock exhaust manifold from the old first gen FA20 by cutting out that cat and replacing it by welding in straight pipe, and apparently massive gains were made just by doing that. Torque dip gone, everything. The stock ex manifold was decently designed for power but having that primary cat integrated in screwed things up
Now we wait for tunes!
Really looking forward to putting these together!
Uel catted header end of all videos on this
You need to work on your audio. FAST
looks the the eq is the better option with a tune this generation, it also sounds better without making the sacrifice to uel to get more power but sounding like a ricer.
The graphs in this video were untuned I believe
EL is the way to go simply because it doesnt have that annoying Subaru boxer sound.
Someone wasn't a colin mcrae fan as a kid.
@@jonboy602 ikr i was like isnt that the whole point, of having a subie etc...not to mention that this generation needs its "bridge port" rx-7 "equivalent" or Renesis 200+HP na "option". In reality this is IT, as far as factory/modern NA 200+ power FR rear tossing fun. I mean street port/bridge/pp 12a, or renesis rx-8 are just impractical at the end of the day...but UEL on the 2.4 that are optimized for flow/power, and a straight pipe system matched for the headers....with some long tube runners or an intake upgrade. Thats this generations streetport, or rx-8.
@@jonboy602 Prodrive dropped the UEL went they went to the World Rally Car rules in 1998 though. The Subaru WRCars were EL ever since then (sadly?).
Need to see something with some cats on it. Not all of us are irresponsible and want to pollute and smell like we swam in a gasoline swimming pool just to make 200HP.
Sounds and smells like a bitch in here and it aint me.
Just go away and buy an electro :D
@@timuryaroshenko3697 Come on now. I have had my share of catless cars when I was young and stupid. Now I have several cars that make big power all with cats. 750 HP roush stage 2 supercharged mustang, 500HP mazdaspeed 3 with big turbo and nitrous, 400HP taurus SHO. All without sounding and smelling like crap. It can be done. You just cant be a cheap ass puting a $400 header on you car like a broke highschool kid and thinking its going to be a beast cuz those big bad cats.... thats totally what was making your 200hp NA 4 banger so slow.
@@boost331 , it won't be a beast, but some 4.5s to 100km/h it will achieve. Not all people can afford a garage of powerfull cars, but they can afford this one and yes, do a small tuning for some gains.
If you are concerned about ecology - blame more on people that still drives 10 years old / EURO 5 cars. This car with a catless header wiill pollute on the same level.
And actually I'm pretty sure that your cars pollute not less than gr86 with catless header ;-)
The car still retains the OEM cat in the front pipe. Its fine..
