If not lend-lease, soviets would have starved to death, since by 1942 a lot of fertile ground was occupied by Germans. Quote - "Some unwise people at the front comfort themselves with arguments that we can continue the retreat to the east, as we have vast territories, a lot of soil, many people, and that we will always have abundance of bread. By these arguments they try to justify their shameful behavior at the front. But all these arguments are fully false, faked and working for our enemies." - Iosif Stalin, order No. 227. July 28, 1942

    • @TerreHauteRemoteGoat
      @TerreHauteRemoteGoat Před měsícem

@@babbersher398 Oh my goodness, think, my friend. One builds small dams on small tributaries... the dam has to match the flow! These small dams and catchments provide irrigation and flood control as well, without disrupting fish migrations.
Name a country that's done it? Every one that you listed, plus any other country you care to name! It just hasn't been done systematically. Emphasis has been on dams that are big enough to name after a politician.
Finally, your laser focus on dams misses another massive point, which is distributed power generation doesn't rely on a single source of power, either... so not just hydroelectric, but wind, solar, wave, whatever is appropriate to the location. That way a failure in one doesn't mean total failure.

As per google Most smaller sized dams are primarily constructed for flood control. Typically, though not always, this is done to mitigate the effects of upstream development and an increase in impervious area

he was striking valid military targets and one bomb fell where it wasn't aimed for, thus hitting civilians, from there Churchill ordered an all out bombing of berlin triggering Hitler to take more personal targets (civilians). had he carried on bombing airfields and barracks he may well have won.

The upper levels of German command received large financial bonuses. It motivated them to exaggerate successes such as over counting British fighters shot down. It also lead them to eagerly say yes whenever Hitler asked for something. such as "now you have shot down so much of the fighters you can directly attack London" "I said I would in speeches after they dropped a bomb on Berlin". That led to Germans taking a narrow route to London and back to retain some fighter cover due to high fuel demands of ME109s. On the way back the RAF switch to "Big Wing" tactics and mowed down the returning bombers that dropped their crews over English territory or the Channel. RAF pilots could parachute on home territory and return to duty. All the while German commanders are over estimating RAF losses, the damage of raids and delaying the reporting of losses. Listing German losses as "missing" over England or the Sea allowed them to minimise KIA numbers.
All this will sound a bit "Putin's Russia". Like Putin now, Hitler became paranoid his Generals were lying or fudging the truth. I think the Generals tried to kill him because they suspected a murderous purge. What must the Russian military be like now? Kill Putin before he has us killed?

I read today that the ruzzians managed to sink a " warship " in its little Baltic Sea exercise. The warship was actually a trawler....... Yes , a trawler. The said ship was also one of their own. It appears that they no longer need Ukraine to fight against in the open sea, as the ruzzians are doing a terrific job of thinning out their fleet. It also says a lot about their own naval capability when they have to use fishing boats to make up their fleet numbers.

    • @franceyneireland1633

I know of one Sayano-Shushenskaya Dam it is located on the Yenisei River, near Sayanogorsk in Khakassia, Russia (in south-central Siberia). It is the largest power plant in Russia and the 12th-largest hydroelectric plant in the world. I remember reading there was an explosion or damage about 2009 due to a faulty turbine which was two months before reaching it needed to be replaced of 30 years. Workers were killed and oil spilled into the Yenisei River causing a lot of environmental damage. Russia has other dams but I don't know where they are located or their name of those dams.

If Ukraine keeps hitting refineries the bombers wont have the fuel to fly,. Trucks and trains need fuel to deliver raw materials to he factories trucks and trains to deliver bombs bullets beans & bodies to fight. then the fuel to feed weapon systems. if a 5000 lb bomb makes a big hole. I wonder what happens if the factory falls prey to careless smokers.

19:10 Notice that the Ukrainian dragons teeth are more of an isocoles triangle than a pyramid (which Russia used). The ones Ukraine is making would be a real pain in the ass to move, especially if they dug them in. Think about it though, they would flop al over the place and be unpredictable if infantry was trying to move them. That means more time, plus Ukraine will have their artillery set on them. Genius.

You are absolutely correct about Russians: They understood 1905 naval defeat in the Pacific, and they understood defeat in East Prussia 1914. These two examples show that they can lose, if they ignore balance of power and own capabilities. In theory their 144 million nation took on almost 1 billion westerners, generating some 70% of GPD, as opposed to their 1.5%. It is only our passive stance which gives them the possibility to carry on, and be delusional that they can win.

Artur, something to note about the Russian's latest Terror weapon.
Right now the FAB-3000 can't be launched from a fighter or fighter/bomber, they are too big. They're restricted to much larger, and rarer bomber platforms.
Glide bombs are also not cruise missiles. While a fantastic weapon in and of themselves, they have a fairly limited range compared to something like the Iskander cruise missiles.
To get a FAB-3000 closer to front and able to yeet a multi-ton ton bomb at Ukrainian lines, that bomber will have to get fairly close to Ukrainian air defenses, and potential aerial ambushes from Ukrainian AA.
So it's kind of like the rest of Russia's wunderwaffe. It sounds good. It looks scary, and I don't think it will make a huge difference.
I'd be much more concerned if they figured out a way to substantially increase the range and accuracy of their smaller glide bombs.
