ok this is lame but like im vvv happy to find other ppl who do archery!!!! I’ve actually been doing it for about half my life. Like you, I’ve never been diagnosed with anything so as far as I know I’m neurotypical. Although, something kind of...interesting (I guess?) is that I saw it in a movie one day and my brain decided that it was time to not think about anything else except archery. Mind you, I was about 8 at the time but I was spending pretty much everyday watching videos, reading stuff I could find online, and making my own bows until I could actually get a real one. I’ve done the same with a few other random things (specifically historical concepts and geographical locations) but I’m really thinking that I’m probably just a very passionate person instead of neurodivergent.

    For example:
Goes into the fridge, notices lemonade is missing, remembers it's in my room.
So I go and leave the fridge open.
Then I get to my room and notice my favourite cup is dirty.
So I take the cup into the kitchen and forget what I was going to do with the cup.

The thing with purposefully misdiagnosing autism goes the other way too 😔 i have both adhd and autism, and my adhd is a huge problem when it comes to doing schoolwork, so i tried to get diagnosed for it so i could get medicated or accommodated-- and because the doctor percieved me as a girl and adhd is more commonly diagnosed in boys *and* because i was "too well-behaved" (thanks it makes me panic when people are mad at me ❤) they said they couldn't give me an adhd diagnosis, despite my major memory and focus problems. BUT they said they were willing to test me for autism, since it was more likely i had that. now, admittedly i do, but the problem with that is that if you have an autism diagnosis, you can be denied work, adoption, independence, etc. so my choices are 1. don't get accommodations and 2. risk my independence, meanwhile *neither* of those actually treat my focus and memory problems, the whole reason i want treatment, because they're adhd problems. ughhh

i get why you're hesitant to self diagnose but i will say that, the learning disorder community (adhd/asd/etc) is largely 100% cool with self diagnosis. we get how hard it can be to get a diagnosis (expensive, biases/discrimination, etc), and it's no harm done if you later realize you were mistaken. i'd recommend talking with a therapist (they can really help!!) or just doing more research on adhd, consuming stuff by creators with adhd, stuff like that, and seeing how closely you vibe with it, if there are certain things that strike a bell, make you feel seen, validated, understood. make you introspect or look back on your childhood and go ".....OH" lol
either way, even if you wanna stay away from self diagnosis, i'd absolutely suggest looking for advice from people with adhd/asd online! or resources made by adhd people for adhd people! because whether you have it or not it sounds like you at least share a lot of common issues with us and hopefully things that help adhd people will also help you!
sorry this is so long. im so glad i graduated in 2020 so i didn't have to deal with how absolutely awful "everything is homework" must be, it sounds so difficult to get motivated for work sitting in your bed and im sorry you're struggling with it

In all of my free time I would just binge the show Wild Krats and learn about as many animals as I could. maybe neurodivergent things I did as a kid. wore the same outfit every day for years and nothing else felt comfortable, tried to climb everything that looked remotely climbable, rubbed everything on my face, a specific kind of rubber that I loved chewing on so much I would chew on it for hours, took my parents until I was 10 or 11 to stop walking on my tippy toes and I still have to make a conscious effort not to do it same with looking people in the eye, never learned to hold scissors correctly and refused to be taught, super sensitive and over emotional, hated any kind of physical touch sense age seven, got so hyper fixated on things they were the only thing I could think or talk about for months to years, everyone including me thought of myself as the weird kid, certain textures (foods especially) that I hated with a burning passion, no regard for how loud I was but hated how loud everything else is, could never sleep, needed a sound machine,a light, a lavender spray thingy, a weighted blanket, and 17 stuffed animals that I kept perfectly organized and would cry if they were out of place to fall asleep, always got in trouble for talking to fast, bouncing up and down constantly, looking around me and trailing off or just straight up stopping in the middle of conversations, interrupting because I didn't know the person was done talking (even if it was very obvious), talking to my friends parents more than to my friends whenever I went to their houses, gifted kid throughout elementary school but fell apart in middle school, snuck out of the classroom during school because it was too loud and overwhelming or because I couldn't sit still any longer. that was very long but basically I have been doing research and I feel like I'm probably neurodivergent (have had people tell me I could have adhd but there might be something else going on too) but I'm not diagnosed with anything and I don't know how to bring up my concerns to real life people but I would still love an opinion if any of these things are signs of something.

    • @Marispider
      @Marispider Před 3 lety

oml. yeah i would definitely say you're nd XD like, of course i can't diagnose you, but you tick pretty much every single box. to have ALL these things at once in your history is absolutely a solid sign of ADHD and/or ASD (i'm thinking ADHD too mostly, but because i'm autistic and because they're so similar, im gonna be referring to both for this comment, not saying you're one or the other or both)
even the emotional sensitivity and "using scissors wrong" sounds right - for the former, i'd recommend searching up rejection sensitivity dysphoria (RSD) which is common in nd people. for the latter, people with ADHD and ASD can have trouble with fine motor skills and can be clumsy. not saying you have either of these, you might not, but they're both things i didn't know were nd things until recently and wished someone had told me about, so, if you didn't know, here you go
but yeah, as to bringing it up to people in your life - i'd absolutely recommend talking to your family about it. it can be intimidating, it can be scary, but they've known you for long enough that hopefully they will have been able to note this behavior and hopefully have realized this all goes beyond fussiness or being picky. sit down with them (prob start out with one or two people, whoever you're most comfortable with), maybe with some sites and articles already pulled up you could refer to, and tell them that you've noticed you've always felt like you were different and you've been doing a lot of research and you think you might have ADHD or something.
whether or not you want to get tested is your choice - the vast majority of adhd and asd people will accept you with open arms if you never get formally diagnosed just because there are lots of challenges that come with it - but if you want, bring it up as something you might like to look into. if you're more comfortable, bring it up with a school counselor or teacher. and don't be disheartened if whoever you tell balks at the idea - they might just need some time to think about it and warm up, and most of all, their doubt doesn't mean you're incorrect or your thoughts aren't valid. try again with someone else - i know, for example, my father could never accept the idea he could produce an autistic kid, but my mother was my biggest advocate when i was little. someone will listen.
sorry this is SO long didn't mean to make it an essay, i hope some of this might help you!

seconding and expanding on the idea that self diagnosing is absolutely fine. while diagnosis can be the only way to get meds or assistance at school/work if you need it, plus it can just feel validating... you can usually figure it out yourself, and the ND community (esp ppl with learning disorders! im sure a lot of ppl with especially stigmatized disorders like PDs or DID will sympathize too) will accept you. and if it turns out in the future you were mistaken, then it's totally okay! no foul done.
but yea testing can be expensive and people can just straight up misdiagnose you, AND you may face bias and discrimination based on your diagnosis in the future (not to scare you or anything, idk how bad it is for adhd, but i know many autistic people have had trouble doing anything from being believed by their doctors about medical issues to having trouble adopting.. not everyone! but it's sadly a thing).
BUT rambling done, i'd say yeah, absolutely discuss it with your therapist, plus continue to do research just like imani said.

Likewise, I pay much attention to not be the one generalizing myself, which is why I tend to be wordy sometimes but I think it is of utmost importance to be exact in language.
Fun fact: For "people like yellow" to have the intended meaning of "some people like yellow", one has to add a signifier for a particular term, such as many, some, several, etc. To infer the signifier, that is not adding it, but intending for it to be perceived, goes against basic logic, really, much less than not getting a particular social convention.

I don't like most foods because of this as well. i stim and sometimes when i do my family looks at me weird. sometimes ill just be having a normal day and then ill get a feeling that the day wont be good, and then!! would you look at that the day is bad with my sensory processing, or i can't focus at all (focusing is hard >:( even on things i wanna do like reading a book or writing a story or making jewelry or etc) and idk. Here is a list of things I experience that feel neurodivergent but I’m not actually diagnosed with anything so it could just be me subconsciously wanting to feel special.
-I can’t sit in complete silence, I need some sort of background noise.
-I get tics without having Tourette’s
-I have terrible short term memory but fantastic long term memory
    - I can’t start a conversation to save my life
    - I find it easier to talk to kids than adults
    - I get OCD like tendencies with things like the dishes, socks, the way the pantry and fridge are organized, and when I clean things need to be very specific.
    -I get intrusive thoughts
    - I have trouble controlling my volume
    -I get sensory overload
-I’m very sensitive to the textures of certain things...that’s why I can’t eat shrimp 😂
    -I experience rejection sensitivity
    -I’m a kinesthetic learner
    - I go on tangents a lot
-I have trouble explaining how I feel
-I can never stick with a sport or extracurricular activity
    - my thoughts feel forced sometimes
    - I mimic things
-often have certain things playing in my head on repeat 😂
-I see no point in small talk
-I’m perfectly fine staying home for long periods of time.
    -I experience synesthesia
That’s all I can really think of right now but I wanna know what it happening to me so if someone could help...that would be great!!

Were you designated female at birth? If so, autism is often not diagnosed until much later because, to sum up, patriarchy. (Basically women should be shy, quiet, keep to themselves, calm, etc, while also being stereotyped as being loud, irrational, etc. So basically just the ways autism often presents are the expected and/or stereotyped behaviors of women. And because of rampant institutionalized sexism esp. within the medical field, some docs ignore these as symptoms due to bias.)
A lot of late diagnosis and missed diagnosis is extra common in dfab people, and it's already under diagnosed. I was 16 when it was suggested and formally diagnosed in my late 20s. (But they labeled me ADHD at FIVE YEARS OLD just because I could not sit still or control my volume. Or interact successfully with peers)

I have showed so many other symptoms, such as not being able to go back to sleep once the suns come back up even if my curtains are closed because it’s not pitch black and looking up random thoughts that pop up in my head and I could go on. But recently, I went to go get my drivers permit renewed, and for literally no reason at all, lied to my parents about having put my contacts in. It’s not until we get there that I told her I couldn’t see. But like these sorts of things have kept on happening and I just couldn’t understand why, but me having autism would literally explain everything for me. 8:05 that’s actually really helpful for me because recently I’ve been upset because of realizing the problems in the world and my life, and being, “too young and immature,” to do anything. I already have at least 2 solutions for just about every problem I know about, so why can’t I do anything?

@@dkecskes2199 OMG SO WE SHARE INTERESTS 🥺🥺🥺 ok so basically, teachers have points, you get them by taking extra classes, and every year you get 0.10 points.
let's imagine you're a teacher, and you want to get more modules (módulos in spanish, it's like - the time you spend at work. 1 module = 60 minutes, 2 modules = 120 minutes, etc (: ) or you wanna change the hours you have at 1school to another, so you ask the ppl that's in charge of that- and they check how many points you have- they also check the reason why you wanna move those hours, because if there's someone else with more points that also wants those hours at that school, technically they should give it to that person, but, for example, if you're asking for those hours because you have a family member with special needs and you need to take care of them, they can consider giving the hours to you instead.
when you get modules you can try to make them "officially" yours. if you don't do that, and someone with higher score wants your position, there's a very high chance of them getting it.
now let's say you want to be a principal- then you'll have to take a couple of tests to prove that you're qualified. they have to do that with principals, vice principals, secretaries, and almost every position besides teachers.
I like this system because, especially now that everything is done virtually, no one can judge you for your looks - you can have colorful hair, piercings, tattoos and know that there won't be a problem because there is no interview process, it is purely systematic :)
I don't know how this stuff works in other countries yet because I discovered this very recently but I was gonna investigate more about it today 😸 so if you know more about this, and you wanna tell me, I'd love to hear it 😸💕
and lastly, I'm sorry of this phrased strangely, I learned english on tiktok so you can imagine it's not the best 😬

      @dkecskes2199 Před 3 lety +2

@@victoriaanaismolteni4093 That is so fascinating and makes so much sense. It would be great if it worked that way for teachers in my country too, instead of this weird seniority system that just rewards teachers for staying at schools that maybe doesn't fit them well. Also it's really sexist, as the proportion of male principals and leaders to female principals and leaders is not even close to that of the whole educational system.
Also your English is great and learning it from tiktok is useful! Spanish is my second language and it would be fantastic to have a bunch of Spanish tiktok comp videos.

This is gonna sound weird but I wanna be autistic so bad. Cause when I tell people I have adhd to explain why I do weird things and why socially awkward and stuff they don’t understand it because most people don’t realize adhd has social symptoms and is actually very similar to autism so they don’t see it as a valid excuse. But if I had autism I could tell people that and they’d be more understanding and patient. I know they might look down on me for being autistic but people already look down on me and treat me like I’m so mentally deficient I’m useless. At least with autism they’d be more open minded to the idea that there’s more to me than my strange behaviors and be more patient. Any one else with add/adhd ever think this?
