Jelly Roll Morton's composition, named for a vaudeville contortionist, and played superbly -- with fire and accuracy -- by Andrew Oliver, piano; Andy Schumm, clarinet; Hal Smith, drums. All this seismic goodness happened at the fiftieth-anniversary Scott JoplinInternational Ragtime Festival, held in Sedalia, Missouri, at tthe end of May 2024.
