Top 10 Haste Enablers in Magic: the Gathering

  • Haste is one of the strongest abilities a creature can have in magic, allowing creatures to ignore summoning sickness entirely and attack or use their tap abilities right away. The ability to attack as soon as a card is played is hard to undersell. In a way, it’s like putting a card into play a turn early, as it can threaten the opponent a full turn earlier than any other threat. As a result, it’s probably not much of a surprise that cards that give other cards haste have, at least, at times, been very powerful. Today, we’re going over the best cards in the game that give out this powerful ability.

    I think Crashing Drawbridge is also a decent Haste enabler. A bit slower than Tuktuk Rubblefort without reach but it's colorless, cheaper, and a little bit more chunky. Honestly it was one of the best includes in Arcades the Strategist. Surrak the Hunt Caller, Surrak and Goreclaw, and Halana and Alena Partners are also other really good haste enablers. I could see Surrak and Goreclaw be added to that dredge deck in place of the Dragonlord Kolaghan since it could do something similar but in better colors for dredge.

    Minor correction to Kenrith: He doesn't give all _your_ creatures haste and trample.
    He gives _ALL_ creatures haste and trample.
    This is important in multiplayer settings, where he can support allies, however temporary they might be.

      @@fernandobanda5734 Hysteria creates easy Infinite combos and does it's job effectively with only been one Mana. Calling it bad is funny. One could argue where it stands from amongst the good but it is good. Any card that enables what you want to do for just one mana without any restrictions can't be deemed bad.
      I think the only argument one can make against these they aren't finishers. But that;s a different topic. As then this Top 10 would be Top 10 Haste Finishers. Which then we would have to say Craterhoof Behemoth etc.

      @fernandobanda5734 Před 11 měsíci +3

      @@thek838 I guess if you have a combo that needs multiple instances of haste it's the better choice. I don't know what sort of combo that is, though.
      I don't agree that one-mana "do something" is automatically not bad. A lot of effects including Mass Hysteria are one mana BECAUSE they are not worth a card. A lot ZERO mana effects would be bad too because they are not worth a card. I'd rather have a more expensive card that gives haste and does something on its own, which is just this list.

    • @thek838
      @thek838 Před 11 měsíci +2

      I said Any card that enables what you want to do, not just does something. One Mana for enabling what you want is great. It's like if you wanted your deck to be banding I dunno why since banding is not great but if there was a one mana card that gave everything you play have banding and your goal was to band then it's very effective for it's purpose. Therefore can't be bad according to that does exactly what you want it do.

    one of my favourite haste enablers is Concordant Crossroads, being a world echantment and giving all creatures hastes makes it unique and also costing 1 green mana, with haste being a primarily a red ability makes it pretty cool and and interesting card, the rulestext around it being a world enchantment doesnt come up often and so its a really efficient way to move your gameplan forward.

  • @DedicatedCaffeineUser
    @DedicatedCaffeineUser Před 10 měsíci +1

    Crashing Drawbridge is the other colorless haste enabler I tend to run aside from Greaves/Boots. Haste enablers outside of red are quite rare and being able to give your whole board haste can be very useful. The only downside of Crashing Drawbridge is that it doesn’t have haste itself so you can’t tap it to give your other creatures haste the turn it comes down

      It doesn't actually give Haste but Riot may be even better even if that card doesn't work with tokens. Fires of Yavimaya is very similar and in the day was a terror allowing Fading creatures to attack the turn they came in; with it a single Blastoderm could be lethal.
