  • This week, we're experimenting with the early Wilfa Svart Aroma coffee grinder, exploring the grinder possibilities for our own April Brewer. If you want more insights and opportunities to get your questions answered join our Patreon, / patrikrolf .
    Since developing our own coffee dripper, we have been interested in finding out which other options of coffee gear you can combine to make high-quality coffee at home.
    This week, we're testing an affordable automatic grinder from Norweigian appliance producer Wilfa. This is a model of grinder that we're very familiar with here at April, and in this video, we put the grind quality to the test using our current April Brewer recipe.
    You can replicate the recipe featured in this video by using the following guidelines:
    13g - 200g
    92°C Water
    30g Circle Pour / 70g Centre Pour - 0:00 - 0:10
    30g Circle Pour / 70g Centre Pour - 0:30 - 0:40
    Total Brew Time - 3:00
    If you're curious and would like to know more about this grinder, you can find more information here: www.wilfa.dk/product/koekken/...
    If you have any questions about this brew method, feel free to leave your queries in the comments section below.
    We're always interested in hearing what topics you're most curious to hear us discuss, and social media is a great way of reaching out to us if you would like to make a request.
    We welcome your thoughts and feelings on the topics raised in this weeks video, as well as other ideas you would like to see us discuss in the future. We really appreciate your feedback and support.

    I've got an Wilfa V1 and have been very happy with it for the two years or so that I've used it. As you stressed, it moves during the grinding process which alongside the noise are it's only downside. But for the price, you really can't argue with it!

    Wilfa Svart is a true classic, interesting to hear your thoughts on it. How about a brief comparison between this and Wilfa uniform? Does the cup difference justify the price?

      It depends on the brewing method, but I'm using all the way up to the Aeropress mark, and sometimes a bit further. With the Kalita, I grind even finer!

      I'm within the Aeropess range as well. Actually Squaremile and Workshop both have a grind-size guide for the Wilfa Svart on their website. It's worth checking out.

    Will be interesting to see if you could maybe put a micron value to this? I'm using the same grinder, except to achieve brew times ~2:30-3:00, I have to use a finer setting than the one recommended here.

    • @DanDaCosta
      @DanDaCosta Před 3 lety

      Little addition: brew times have generally been ~2:30-3:00 when using a pour pattern of 30-70, but allowing a gap between pours. When using this pour pattern, drainage is even faster still.

    • @DominicFrenchMusic
      @DominicFrenchMusic Před 3 lety +3

      Glad I’m not the only one! Only thing I can think is that the Svarts are aligned differently? Either that, or these pouring patterns work primarily with April’s own coffee. I can barely get past a 2 minute brew on this same setting

      I’ve just used the fil on the wilfa with the mocca master machine and I’m just getting the right flavours but if a use a v60 on AeroPress setting extraction takes over 5 minutes

  • @fernandogi

    So what would be the recommended brew time for the 13 gram coffee and 200ML water as shown in the video?
    And do you have a link where you can find the different brewing techniques explained? (you say it's easy to find but I couldn't find instructions on this machine explaining the different options)

    • @coffeewithapril
      @coffeewithapril  Před 8 měsíci

      We recommend to stay within 3:00 of a total brew time. Have you tried that before?

    • @fernandogi
      @fernandogi Před 8 měsíci

      With the brewing time I mean the time on the Wilfa to use (30 sec, 20 sec or 10). I see it's based on preference, e.g. I use a French Press when I use 13 ounce coffee and 250 ML water how long should I first brew the beans in the Wilfa :) ?

  • @d3grap

    Coffee comes down way to fast for me following this recipe. I'm between filter and aeropress, and it is just under 2 mins, the result is no body. I'll try to add a 30 sec bloom tomorrow morning, but why did you choose not to bloom?

      @@coffeewithapril very interesting. I was under the impression that the Aroma was a newer model, but did not know they released it in 2016. The reason for my assumption was because a webstore in my country has set this as pre-order.
      If the Aroma also has the issue that I need to have my hands on the grinder while its grinding, then I might have to look for an alternative.
      Something in the same price range would be a Baratza Encore. Any experience with it or thoughts on it?
