Chapter 1: A preliminary hearing in an employment tribunal is more often than not a telephone conversation between your employer/their legal representative, you/your lawyer and a tribunal judge. You won’t usually have to attend any kind of face-to-face meeting. The main purpose of the hearing is to give the judge an idea of what kind of case you have and what needs doing to prepare for it.
Chapter 2: The preliminary hearing will enable the judge draw up a timetable and agenda for the final hearing (or trial). The judge wants to find out what progress is being made by both sides with preparations for the final hearing, and so to decide a date for the final hearing. They will also want to consider key issues like how many witnesses there will be and how much documentation there is, so they can decide how long - days or weeks - the case is likely to last.
Chapter 3: If you want to win your tribunal case, your main role in preparing for the preliminary hearing is to be well prepared. You need to show you are willing to cooperate with the judge in all aspects of the tribunal process, particularly if you are representing yourself. You should have done as much homework as possible to understand the legal arguments associated with your case. You should be familiar with all the documentation associated with the case that you have had access to so far and you will be asked what key documents you want to put in front of the tribunal to support your case.

Don't call; they will tell you to fill out an online form and will hear nothing else you have to say; what's the point of having a contact number.
