    There’s so much space in the box that it should accommodate 2 PSUs and a hdd. Actually kind of shocking that a over $1k device doesn’t allow HDD but only SD cards.

    I have a UDW in my home since the first round of early access and agree with all of your critiques. The SD card and low camera limit is very strange. For most of its time in Early Access is showed the same camera capacity as a UDM-SE but it was reduced in a firmware update close to launch. I'm using a 1TB SD card which gives me about 2 weeks of footage on my 6 x 2k cameras with a mix of ongoing and detection-only recording. I can't understand the decision not to include a HDD slot or even an option for an NVME SSD or two.
    Surprised to learn it only includes one PSU. My EA unit has both PSU's occupied and firmware shows the power load split evenly between them at all times.
    At the $700 I paid for it, I'm still happy with it. But at today's pricing and the newly imposed camera limits, I'd get a UDM-SE and another POE++ capable switch if I were to buy again now.

    Nice video Cody. Enjoyed the short video of the ride in a beautiful area. Good use case for the Dream Wall is for those who need the functionality of patch panel, switch and UDM but who don't have space for or don't want a rack mount. This is much better looking than a network rack.Many homes today have "structured wiring boxes" - this could work very well for those homes. I agree with your comment about adding another disk bay for extra storage.

    • @technerd9655

      I avoid those structured media cabinets, they always terrible. I'd much rather find a way to make a 19" rackmount work.

    Neat box. I like the compact wall mount setup for smaller installs. I would like to see the power supplies have individual power connectors similar to what the 1u servers use. Would also like to see a DC power supply module supporting 9-60 volts for RV/Yacht/work van use with Site Magic. Cody is right about having a 3.5" harddrive bay in there to support more cameras.

    I do like the all-in-one concept and it does fit the form factor of vertical network cabinets. I think this is a niche product, but I can see this being installed in small offices. I liked the idea of vertical network cabinets, then I realized that not much else can fit in these enclosures and the enclosures take up a lot of wall space. I prefer wall-mount racks as they take up less wall space, you can fit more in it and swap equipment easier. The other downside to this product when it is time to upgrade, you have to take down everything.
    Micro SD cards are terrible with write cycles. They fail hard and suddenly. A 2.5" or 3.5" drive bay would have been better.
    For general troubleshooting, the large screen is nice for the person on site to relay information to the technician. But I wonder if the better option would be a larger 2x2in or 4x4in screen that mimicked the function for all UniFi's Gen 2 devices. It makes programming and troubleshooting things easier when you don't need to memorize or document every function for every device.
    The integrated switch is strange. Why not make all the ports PoE+ with the ability to toggle passive PoE and the last 4-8 ports PoE++? I do like that there is a SFP+ port for switch expansion, though. The 1Gb management port is nice to have tucked away (if that is the intended use case) and 2.5Gb and SFP+ WAN ports. Are the WAN ports tied together or can you create a primary and backup connection? I wish it also had a track to go to the top of the case, too.
    I like the tool-less design, but wish there was a way to secure it with a padlock or security screw.

    Hey great video! Was waiting for the dream wall review for a while now. Looks like it's targeting new homes and families that don't like to have a network rack installed in a closet. Looks neat on a wall if the cable management is done right! My only gripe is that it doesn't accommodate an HDD (2TB to 8TB for NVR applications) and that the network ports are on the top which looks a bit off. Maybe having them on the sides or at the bottom would make more sense!

    • @Aethid
      @Aethid Před 8 měsíci +1

      This thing is supposed to replace a wall mounted network rack, and in such installs the incoming network cables usually come in either through the wall or from the ceiling. The ports being on the top makes the most sense.

    Great review and install! :) But Where the heck is the Dream Wall Pro that was teased about a year ago along side of the Dream Wall during EA? That model has 2 HDD bays for Protect and moves the PSUs into a separate cabled module.

  • @jam471975
    @jam471975 Před 10 měsíci +4

    I really don't understand why they bothered to add Protect with only an SD card slot for drive space, it's pointless in most applications. Without the two 3.5" drive bays that the Dream Wall Pro claimed to have I have zero interest in this product.

    When I first saw the Dreamwall, I was so excited about its form factor. Then I really looked at it. There are several shortcomings when I dove into it now that we’re in 2024. 1st, as everyone has mentioned why didn’t they include a 3.5 drive bay for longer term video storage? 2nd, with WiFi 7 released, they need a few ports to support 2.5Gb. 3rd, their power budget for one power supply makes it needing a 600w power supply. (The 3.5in drive pushes it past the current power supply) 4th, if these are targeting small offices and new home builds they need to make a mount that can take advantage of a structured media center to have the dream wall become the door to the panel. 5th, swap the access point to WiFi 7.
    I check daily on their website to see if they have a pro, se or enterprise version released . Hopefully they figure it out soon.

    I'm strongly leaning towards putting one in, along with 4 cameras and 3 AP's (full reno and walls are open). Could this be installed on the main floor in plain sight? My biggest issue is what if I eventually move away from Unifi and now my patch panel is in the living room. If it were to be put in a private closet on the main floor would it overheat? And can you fit the keystone terminations inside the Dream Wall itself and patch with 0.1 meter cables? Appreciate the detailed video!

    I think this would be great for a small office with 5-15 people working with 1-2 doors. But the price is way too much for what you get. A Dream Machine Pro, 16 Port POE Switch, and a U6Pro would be $300-400 less and offer a much better path for long-term use. The missing hard drive and price over $700 make it DOA.

    • @isThatAYeti
      @isThatAYeti Před 2 měsíci

      dream machine pro is 380$ 16 port poe switch is $300 access point is $150 not to mention I assume you need some form of NVR $300 and storage $100 + and the backup power supply included call its 100$ to be cheap . You are also paying for form factor and an "all in one" solution. $1300+ start price for the same base line functionality. For a small home or home office that isnt expected to grow in size or scope much this makes a good pick.

    I'm thinking about upgrading my entire home network to Ubiquiti as we will have 2Gbp symmetric fiber available. My goal is to have at least 2.5gbps to the my home office since the workstations will take advantage of it. I looked at the dreamwall but I am thinking is:
    (1) UDM-Pro
    (1) 24-port 2.5gbps Enterprise Switch (PoE)
    (1) SPF 10gbps DAC cable to connect the two
    (2) Wifi 6 AP's
    (1) Unifi Door Bell Pro
    Now it's just a matter of convincing my wife to let me run CAT 6 through out the entire house.

    Cannot believe with the size of that thing the only option is SD card storage. They could have made the spare PSU port dual purpose as its a propriety unit. Either house an HDD or a second PSU which ever you want. There should also be a USB port for external drive support if an internal support is not available. Why would you spend nearly 2.5 times the price for this, its hard to justify.

    insanity it doesn't have a hdd bay, surely they've got something else planned otherwise they've really dropped the ball on this one.

    I can't believe ubiquity puts a micro SD card slot for camera storage, just like the UDR, so dumb. I own the UDR BTW

      Gen 2 should just have a hard drive bay. Or an ssd bay. Or at least dual card slots.

    The fact that this device doesn’t support 2.5gb ports means it has no future proofing. No real ability to make use of U7 APs

    Id say your reviews are missleading. Your reviews arnt reviews. They are just mostly demos of the product you get for free from Unifi.
    Its the same with all your "reviews".

      The majority of the products you see on my channel I buy. Do I think this device is perfect no. Is the use case for it yes, of course I'm going to demo it. I put in a ton of Ubiquiti gear each year and am very happy with it.
      If you dislike my videos you don't need to watch them :)

    I'm just going to say it - this thing is dumb in every aspect. What use case does this serve that their other products dont? I feel like this is just UI tinkering with an idea and somehow sold it to the marketing team for a GA push. You can get a 3U horizontal wall rack UDM-Pro SE, 24 port switch, and patch panel for the same price that will take up less space. I just dont get it.. I guess the only thing this offers compared to that setup is a built in AP, but that is no big deal, especially at the price point. What UI should do is make a UDM-Pro SEv2 and move the hard drive caddy to the back and put a built in 16 or 24 port poe switch on the front, there's PLENTY of room in that chassis as is
