Great to race against you, wild to see the back camera and really from how far back I came, can't even see until the last block 😤 -lavender shirt guy
congrats! what was your ratio?
@@jloveys 47-20
@@uberbeasting99 jesus ! is your daily commute uphill both ways? you were pulling a lot of heat in that climb
@@shingi_ lol I grew up in San Francisco so I'm used to the hills lol
Man!! You went last to first!!! Either luck or good strategy that was amazing!!!!
"Pinkshirt" overtakes 4 people in about 15 seconds, impressive.
We should all take a moment to appreciate the transition at 0:20
then pausing at 0:23 lol at that guy's sweatshirt!
@@m.ncycles I will join that club
Insane 🔥
"In this sport, honestly, the more you stress about it, the more you think about it, the worse you're gonna do" - cycling wisdom right there
So true. I’m always amazed when I talk to young riders and find out all the stress they worry about. It’s the number one reason I’m not a fan of watt training. The numbers drive people crazy. Are we trying to have fun? Or torture ourselves? Hell, cycling is hard enough as it is.
You need to get over to the UK national hill climb champs 😁
Would make a great video, but he's probably not allowed to race it :P
@@tjones2112 I agree only because logistically travel wise it would be a pain. But to see Jeff up and down the U.K. over the month of October at various climbs until the final would be great.
@@SuperJimic You mean Brexit Island ?:))
@@bca-biciclindcuaxel7527 no, just England if you want to get specific 😁
See you on Pea Royd or Jackson Bridge near me here!
That 75 second power is my 10 second sprint power… nuts
Fun fact: 14 years ago, I lived on that street and biked up and down it daily. One day biking northbound down De Haro, I was hit by a pickup truck around 20th and woke up 6 hours later to my 4th MRI of the night at SF General. Came out of that with 26 staples up the back of my head and several years of some wild-ass vertigo.
That's awful dude sorry to hear about that and I hope all is well now. Pick up trucks and big SUV's in cities are a menace.
@@Hughmanbeing Thanks! Yeah, everything's fine now. Moved to Chicago since then and sadly I've got no hills to climb now :(
@@DavidMann3D I hear you! I’m in Chicago too. I’m considering eventually moving somewhere out west though.
Jeff outside his natural Alviso habitat… love it
Red Bull always has some cool and fun events. Congratulations on the podium. Fantastic edit my dude!
Don't spoil it for us man!!🤣
@@saurabhmahuli4134 sorry dude. Never read the comments while watching! 🤣🤣🤣
Yeah like the soapboxes.
To the guy that tried to block you twice! What a Wanker!!!!!
I think Jeff had him covered though. He was ready to stick them elbows out. As an experienced track ride I would ridden right through him!
especially since he wasnt even guarding the top spot, but 2nd place...
The video quality is just 🤌
Awesome content as always Jeff.
FWIW, anyone that thinks this is a “climbers” race is wrong. It’s a sprinters race. My racing background is primarily from crit racing here in Northern California just like Jeff. Although instead of perennial podiums like Jeff, I’m scraping for top 10 in the same P/1/2 field sprint.
-your Bay Climb winner/fellow critboy
having seen some of the hill climb comps here in britain, they tend to be longer than this, definitely seems like being a good sprinter helps out potentially more
Even a 2 minute climb can be better suited for sprinters.
Put some flat bars on if you do it again. A lot more leverage on offer so that you can get some real watts per kg out of those legs :)
Great effort on your 3rd placing.
Great quality especially on the intro! Thanks for posting something different from time to time. Appreciate you!
Worth the wait, awesome editing and congrats on the perf!
Short and sweet, gotta love it. A masterclass in editing.
This is awesome Jeff. Congratulations on your podium finish.
Looks like a fun race environment! As for the climb itself, that’s “fun” in a different way.
coolest guy ever! love how you are participating all kinds of bike forms.
Congratulations on the podium! Great content and great fun!
Woo!
Been waiting for this.
That champagne celebration was just sooo bad 😂😂😭😭🤣🤣
Well done Jeff! That was some serious wattage!!!
From one Jeff to another, impressive job, man
Great video, thanks. Your living the life!
Wow my adrenalin is pumping just watching the semi and the finals🔥🔥🔥
Wow that blond redshirt on the winner pic is a true bomb!
Great effort and congrats to third place!
Waited sooo long!!!!!
Dress gang :D can't wait to see you try out the velodrome now
Awesome racing with you! Happy you smoked me in quals so I didn't have to go again!
Nice work Jeff!
Great stuff!!
Great job, Jeff.
Do you have a strava segment for the "Bay Climb"? Would love to see the hill in more detail. Thanks and great vid.
Well done mate, well done.
Those hills looked so good in Bullitt.
Who the hell was that kid trying to run you off the course in the final.. that was crazy
Extremely aggressive defence being played right there
Exactly what I was thinking. And for what? That kid got smoked anyways
I don't think your ability to ride in a straight line is very good when your seeing stars
Super rad!
11 W/Kg for 80 seconds.....and you came in 3rd? 😂 That looks like an awesome event - thanks for sharing 👍
That's what I was thinking!
@@cyclingboss469 I can hold that for maybe 6 seconds before I bonk lol. 80 seconds is just impressive as hell to me :)
The clip-in is everything on a short course fixie race.
You'd think so. The guy who took #2 certainly didn't lead from the start.
@@biedawo He wouldn't have had to come back from a mile back if he had a better clip-in, did he?
He probably could've won if the winner wasn't leading by that much from the start.
That was cool!
Hype for this
A lot of Fucling fun 🤩
pure fun
I totally agree with you that there is no easy the faster you go the easier it is. If that makes sense
good job bro
Nice job. Bit of advice… consider straight bars next year. Basic physics would dictate a better power output. 👍😊
and obviously a lighter bike - the one he's been riding is aluminium!
@@lechprotean most of the guys out there were on aluminum bikes, you won't see much carbon in the fixed gear scene
@@LouieMcFly23 true. And I doubt the minimal weight savings would make much difference in a short race such as these. You’re talking about ounces here. Hell, I can poop that weight savings out before a race.
I watched Bobke ride wheelies up this hill back in the late 90s
💥You Did Great! Looked Fun ✅ Best Advice Chug RedBull💥
that looks like fun
Amazing 🚲🔥
Nice one!
recently tackled my first 20% climb. 1km, 12% avg grade, 21/22% max grade
bloody difficult
Heart rate elevated and out of breath.. all just from watching it
Oh By the Way prior to the first aluminum frame racing bikes in the 1980's and 1990's, on big Mountian stages of the bigger tours some riders took a fixed steel frame track bike from the company they rode for, as light as the frames were made at the time, then added the components needed like hand breaks, changing to a front road hub with all the other parts for the pedals, and all the other stuff to comply with the rules then set up with the single set of gears best suited for climbing gear ratio for the rider to be as light as possible with the lightest frame as possible for racing.
I want to see jeff organize an alviso fixed gear crit
There's a hill I NZ that's 35'and on a road in Qld aus 31'
Aren’t drops at somewhat of a disadvantage compared to risers or bullhorns on the climb?
Maybe
Insane pink shirt went from last to 2nd due to misclip. i also misclipped but only made up 2/3 spots
Congrats on 3rd Jeff
That's 1/4 the casual hill I use to climb as a child.
Just to give you an idea of how far behind this competition is.
That was 20 years ago.
Ultimate hipster culture. Looked fun though!
get that redbull sponsorship jeff
Well done very impressive power but come to England and experience some 30% + climbs
great idea!! we do the Balmoral Burn here in AUS.. check that out :-)
Have you ever ridden the kilo on the track?
Awesome
Just out of curiosity: Did Red Bull pay you to hold their can in the end of the video?
I wanted to know that myself
That is some big arse anaerobic capacity. If I estimate your FTP to 320W - that is ~39 KJ RWC, emptied in one huge gulp.
Stick with the road bike, better centered position over CG. Work on that clip in, maybe some speedplay pedals or have someone hold you up. Add some faux brake hoods.
What a surprise, the 110lb guy won a climbing event. Great effort by you though representing the larger climbers.
Actually I weigh 105lbs
@@TheRealFaux Oh, sorry, didn't mean to make you seem fat.
6:30 what a di***
When I first watched, I'd assumed he was just zig-zagging to flatten the slope. Nope.
You really need to learn your lightning quick cyclocross clip-in. Time to speak to some cx riders at the Worlds.
Why don't people use bar-ends?
Why haven't you put hoods on the bars, sort of the normal thing to do on a hill climb bike fixie or not
the normal fixie thing is probably switch to a wide flat bar
6:30 what a loser that guy :))
All i want for Christmas is cleats
Lezzzgo
1st place needs to practice the champagne spray. 6 half twists, shake the shit out of the bottle, flick the cork and cover the opening with your thumb.
The dude who got first can’t weigh much more than 110lbs…that’s nuts!
finally
State Black Label 👍 I'm a courier that rides one everyday!
it's 25 degrees and icy.... I want to riiiiiiide
6:30 what a dumba$$. great event and nice quality footage!!
The one dude ate your lunch.
You would have won with sneakers and a flat handlebar hybrid. Just saying.
When was this??
late sept/early oct i think
👍🤘🚴♀️
That's one of the dumbest events ever. I wish it was around when I was racing. :-). Congratulations!
Living large
Fix gear guys know how to party.
6:26 leave it to the guy biking in dress pants to try to cut you off
Where you the oldest one there.
This is the perfect race for our pitbull bike pedals.
Will be a god day when they take helium out of music.
I wish McDonalds would sponsor these events instead of Red Bull so I can get a cheeseburger 🍔
Come to Kohima: Nagaland, India, if you want to know what steep climbing is!
tf this dude has the same voice as Jeff
Don’t look at big.
LOL! Not even close to the steepest. Even Filbert is steeper, at 31.5%, and that's only about fifth steepest.
