You went this far, wouldn't it be worth having that grit blasted and rebuild it as a spare? Making great progress on a complete rebuild of a 1970 Evinrude 85. I even found 2 sets of factory guide tubes. Like gold these days. Thanks for all the lessons and particularly listing of tools! Stay safe brother.

I like the custom holder you have for it. Did you have that machined?

any chance you would have a working lower unit for a 1985 johnson/evinrude 25hp????

That came apart surprisingly easy for how it initially looked.

Thank you for a great video. The reason i found this is the same as you mention at 14min. I accidently removed the pivot pin when changing oil. Now im looking for way to correct my mistake.
After an hour with a wire and a bit of grinding on the end of the pivot pin i manage to get it back in place. The problem is that now i cant change gear. Its stuck in forward.
Any tips for me before i tear the whole unit apart?
Thank you in advance, best regards from sweden 🙂

Hello I am having the hardest time finding the clutch dog and gears for a 56' bigtwin 30. Is there any way you could help me out with the part numbers? I have looked everywhere and can't find it.

Dear sir! Is it possible to change an older Johnson 20hp ('72) shear pin type prop shaft to a "new style" one?
    Or the whole lower unit?
I can't get shear type props anymore

That’s funny , 20 - 25 hp motors up here are plentiful ! Maybe I should bring down a load of them and sell them ! Lol. I think I have at least 5 - 20’s and 7- 25 hp on hand serviced and ready ! Lol. How much do they sell for there ?

    • @BrandonsGarage

      Thats the funny part,
Impossible to find, very few for sale anyway, yes everybody wants one and asks me if I have one for sale.
Seems like nobody will pay more than $400 for one.
There has been one for sale for 2 years for $800, still there.

Brandon's Garage here I get more for a 15 hp then a 20 or 25 ! Lol. I sell 15’s for up to $1,200 and am lucky to get $600 for a 20 or 25 ?!?! And long shaft are hard to sell , go figure ! I have a beautiful 1967 Evinrude 18 hp long and can’t get $300 ! But if I convert to SS I could sell it tomorrow for more ! I just don’t understand it . That military one is interesting !

Darn I have a 25 evinrude that the forward gear and the dog gear are warn down causing them to slip when under a load. I found new ones but they were to expensive. The reverse gear is 88.00 the dog gear is 104.00 and the forward gear is 422.00. I’m gonna try to machine them down to good metal again if it doesn’t work I’m not out anything.

I know, i need a reseal/rebuild video. I did see one guy doing it on a similar motor but it looks like a PITA to get the gears back in, and you have to buy or make a tool to get the clutch dog detents in
