#megasg #analogue #genesis - Hry
So some of the audio stuff has been changed in recent firmware updates and things like the lowpass filter have changed completely in the way that it operates. So the numbers I give in this video are likely no longer the optimal settings. I haven't powered my Mega Sg on since making this nor have I updated the firmware since v4.2 I think. So the default value with the lowpass filter turned on may well be the best setting, but I really don't know. But you do want at least SOME lowpass filter otherwise it will sound too bright and shrill. I've been using my real Genesis since the making of this video.
Is there any chance you could list any changes you do make in the video description? Might help if someone comes to look later.
Please update and give us new audio settings
@@adamcartermi5 I ended up using the same ones from the video and it all seems to work perfectly.
MiSTer has made the analogue's useless huh?
@@jackbootshamangaming4541 There both fpga implementations no? Mister seems more raspberry pi with this just being a product you buy update firmware and play.
Also this plays carts
Sorry about the flood of Mega Sg videos from every channel in the world! That's what happens when you have embargoes. We've never had a video released on day 1 of a product launch so it will be interesting to see if it ends up being worth it for you and for Game Sack. So it's all an experiment.
Game Sack it's ok. It just means that your video will be the best video of the bunch and of course the first one to watch!
I've got 5 reviews for it in my subs right now and came here just to comment on that
HKgaming I had several in mine also but chose Game Sack first. Nice to have an additional episode especially on a Monday morning!
I appreciated the review. Given how much you love Sega figured you'd be the toughest critic of how accurate this gets both in visual and audio qualities. I had actually never knew there was a sound difference between the different models.
Are people really complaining about that? Come on! You guys are awesome.
I just got hit with game sack, rerez, metal Jesus, and my life in gaming all reviewing mega sg all at the same time. I choose game sack
Ditto!
If you make other life decisions as wisely as this one, you will do well.
The best choice.
actually, you dont need to choose, they both are friends
Is it wrong I gave up on Metal Jesus? I can't tell what it is, but something about his channel changed and I can't take him anymore. He does still find good "hidden gems" though.
You Americans will never know of the constant peril us Europeans have to endure of the constant threat of fatal water drops.
You were my first choice of about 5 billion Mega SG videos to watch. Amazing as always so far. Thanks, Joe!
After this video.. Im sure its the most complete review.. Im skipping everyone else's.. Gamesack is unmatched.. Case in point.. The godlike genesis episode.. Every other youtube channel got schooled by joe.. Hell.. Even by dave
same here, too many reviews out there, but this is the one I needed!
Yeah me too, Game sack is more quicker to explain and entertain
I watch MLIG first for the super in-depth analysis but then I watch Game Sack for the fun summary.
If the Analogue doesn’t make those fart noises when I turn it on, then I will be sorely disappointed.
FART NOISE POWER-ON OR RIOT.
Just wait for the firmware update. The Analogue Mega Sg will only get better! :)
When the video started, I was wondering why you no longer hear the fart noise during the intro only to be bombarded with farts throughout the entire vid.
I just had this horrible vision of Dave bent over with Joe holding a microphone to his buttocks to capture the sound effects.
The perfect choice of sound effect. 👌
Yay bonus game sack!
Joe you should have edited in clips of Dave saying "That's exactly right, Joe!"
No one can do a system review like Joe!! Not only do you get ALL of the important information, but all of the humor along with it! I chuckled every time you pushed the power button 😂 thank you!!
Seriously, I tend to feel hit or miss about Game Sack reviews, but when it comes to system reviews, Joe is the best there is. Period.
Apart from the fact u chose 1080p and not 720p. 1080p is incorrect.
Extremely useful, thanks
Thank god... It plays Greendog. Phew! Was worried there for a minute!
Rerez didn't play it, so I wasn't sure.
you fucking beat me to it! LOL
Any system that can’t play GREENDOG! in 1080p should be set on fire immediately!
@@zrobeast So you're willing to set fire to an OG Sega Genesis Model 1?
@@zrobeast Nintendo is gonna burrrrnnn!
Game Sack is the only channel I care about watching review this product. I knew Joe would break it down and explain it like no one else can, and that's why Game Sack is #1!
I watched the My Life In Gaming one first...
Though, I must say, watching Game Sack review was something like about 1000 times more entertaining! :D
Thanks, Joe! That was absolutely stunning!
I can always rely on you for accurate and in depth reviews of hardware. You never BS anything and always balance the humor with serious critiques. Thanks again Joe!
Excellent review as normal Joe. You went really in depth here. Great job!
The power on fart sounds had me dying 😂
I've seen about 3 other reviews for this system. This is the best video. None of them explained the options really nor did any of them find ANY problems with it. I have alot more respect for Game Sack now!
Edit: It reminded me to click the bell. Thanks for the best review of the console.
Amazing review! I laughed out loud at the "too lazy to put your headphones on right" bit.
Now THIS is a review! I’ve seen about 4 other reviews from prominent reviewers and none of them were detailed / in-depth. This is great information and love your approach, really expecting a lot - not just assuming it’s great. Thanks!!
Edit: HILARIOUS “outtakes”😆😂
I wasn't expecting the best video review of the Mega SG to come from GameSack, but apparently, I'm completely wrong. Amazingly detailed, yet concise review of the console. The best on CZcams IMO. Great work Joe. Love the video production skills passively on display too.
The only two channels I care to watch this review from: Game Sack and MLiG.
Haha those are the only two I watched! I think I'm good
Modern Vintage Gamer also did a very nice review of it.
Lol it wouldn't be a Game Sack episode without a little GREEEEEEEN DOOOOOOOOG!
Also glad to see that yall tested Monster World 4, one of the best hidden gems on the system.
nice touch changing the fart sound when a master system game was loaded up. 👍
If you're still wondering about those borders, they're to make sure no useful area of the display was cut off by the variable overscan that was present on CRT televisions, and having them be a color that was similar to the game's background would make them less noticeable if a particular television's overscan didn't obscure the entire border area.
I really liked how this video touched on specific details, criticisms and options that a lot of other videos based on the Mega SG seemed to have skimmed over or just took a quick glance at. Truly you're one of the more hardcore Sega Genesis fans, and the knowledge truly shows!
You've gained another sub for sure now. :)
the lack of Dave is disturbing
matt fahringer yes what happened to him? I need to know
@@Losveterani Sega console
Too much SEGA for Dave to handle
Don't frighten me with your co-host ways Matt.
*Game Sack* just made the announcement:
Dave is moving on. As much as he would want to continue, his full time job and all of its travel isn't allowing time with his family. So, MORE Joe. =-D
Yea, more SEGA!
NOTE: The 8bitDo 2.4g Wireless controller does NOT work with an Atari 2600. The dongle fits, but doesn't light up or sync properly. I tried in on 2 different 2600's and I know John Hancock tried it as well.
I love how detailed your information on the hardware is.
Love the descriptions you guys do for the music in the closed captions.
More and more, I'm thinking Soul Star might be the prettiest 16 bit game ever.
It is a beautiful game. I need to snag it.
Game Sack without Dave has a “fireside chat” atmosphere. Great overview, Joe: I super want this now.
Best review so far out of the one review I've watched.
In all seriousness appreciated the audio focus.
I gotta say tho, you guys are by far the best CZcams gaming channel there is. You guys are one of the only ones that get the technical stuff right. There is so much misinformation spread by other channels and you guys consistently get it right. Hats off to you guys!
Would have been funny as hell if there had been Metal Joe Rocks in the Thumbnail 😂😂
Did someone say, "Hidden Gem?" *tweaks nipple suggestively*
They missed an opportunity to call it mega GS ( Game Sack )
Thank you so much for all the details on this, Joe! If I hadn't watched this first I probably would not have known what I would be doing with all those options. I am so dying to get my hands on one.
7:51 Aah, that sublime Greendog music... Greendog can do no wrong. GREEEEENDAAAAWG!!!
GameSack Does What Othersdon't. Great video Joe!
No Dave? Is this the end of an era you were speaking of on Twitter?
Deliciously pedantic review, no stone un-turned. ;) Testament to great hardware design that you can even talk about such details and show options that alter them. :) I'm confident they'll figure out some adapters for GG and attaching the 32X.
GameSack, Thank you for providing option setting suggestions as all the menu items can be overwhelming for most users.
Actually it would make more sense if the “SG” would stand for “SEGA”, for starters it is the official initials SEGA themselves use, from the SG-1000 to Sega Gaga “SGGG”, but also because SEGA stands for “Service Games”.
Anyway, great episode, makes me wanna get one of those alongside an Everdrive, maybe I’ll get a Master System Everdrive as well, hopefully 32X and proper Sega CD support would be added eventually.
You guys just couldn't wait to put out another awesome episode? Looks good.
I've really been waiting for YOUR review of the Mega SG, and it was well worth the wait. And, as a plus, we get 2 Game Sack episodes this week (I hope)!!! Great review, great skit and, man, the "special noises" every time a console is powered on are hilarious. Game Sack rules the world of CZcams gaming channels without a doubt.
Your config is very good. Time to watch the video and take notes this time. Thanks for the review it was my favorite Mega SG video of them all!
The FPGA should have been programmed with 32x support. That way you could plug either a 32x game or genesis game and it would work. someone may find a way to get CD images to run from SD card. That would be cool too.
Did you kill Dave? *WHERE IS HE?!?!?*
Had to get it out fast
hes a nintendo fan, so he is not allowed >:|
He's playing the SNES mini
You da man! Thank you for going through the menu settings. Much appreciated. Great video. I always enjoy your content. Keep up the great work guys.
Very nice and infomative review. Good job as always GameSack!
The Analogue Mega Sg is not perfect but is a million times better that the dreadful sega clones by AtGames.
Gave the @games to my little cousins for Christmas and i kinda feel bad.
@@bland9876 give him this and the Everdrive Pro to make up for it! Lol. Jk. Though the official Genesis Mini with some of your nephew's favorite games dropped on it might suffice.
Hey Joe, is that high pitched squealing sound in the audio due to leaving "enable cartridge audio" enabled? It's probably picking up interference from that. My guess anyway.
Absolutely the best gaming channel on CZcams. Thank you Joe & Dave!
I just got one, it is an amazing little thing! I am holding cartridges I haven't held in 25 years and can play them flawlessly on our big TV. Been emulating for years using roms but you can't beat the real deal, at least for the games themselves.
way more in-depth about specific games than the rerez review
Rerez is a such a corny, smug, mediocre know-nothing barely literate little twerp. He'll go far.
Wow! A surprise video on monday?? Well this is a good monday.
JuMeSyn I’m guessing there was an embargo. Quite a few channels just put up videos for the mega nt at the same time
This really is the best review for this console. I’ll eventually get one and use this as a guide to set it all up with extra blast processing!
That midnight resistance music.. Love it when in background.. Game sack uses it often.. As well as black belt's music from the master system
What was that last game? The spaceship shooter that looked kinda like Galaxy Force... started at around 17:41?
ooh, special episode?
You guys killed it! Good job on the review.
Wow, i absolutely love the stop motion stuff where it takes itself apart and stuff, its so cool!!
Thumbs down for no: "That's right Joe!" .......:(
I'm a simple man...you put a fart noise in there when you press a button, i'll give you chuckle every time.
I'm just being honest, but your delivery is so great in this video. I feel like the occasional solo vids might be a benefit to the channel!
You guys are great together but the tonal shift here is great too.
Your face when your headphones were on wrong was so good lol. I just got my Mega Sg today and I'm pumped!
Excellent review. Where's Dave, though?
You are reminding me of those people who, once you get in a new relationship, only ask “”Where is so and so?!”
It’s not funny or witty.
If you are actually asking, the answer is that they aren’t married. Dave is at his house with his family.
JazGalaxy you should probably just chill out
The reason for the either blending option is because the softness of CRT screens helped to blend the dithered pixels, but an HD TV is too sharp.
it was the softness of composite video not the crt itself
Realized I hadn't finished the video, started watching from the beginning again. Cracked up just as stupidly at the fart noise on button gag because I'd forgotten. So congrats, that's twice you've gotten me with that gag.
Thank you for your meticulous testing, I was waiting for someone decent to review this.
When do you point out that Analogue sent this to you for review/PR?
Good point
RIP Dave White
He will be missed
Nice video, really like all the technical details. Very thorough. I can't wait for the other adapters, especially the Mark III.
Excellent review Joe. Setting the bar high here for sure
Guess not everyone has near on 200 dollars for a megadrive. Guess i'll stick with my Snes classic lol
I stuck with my hacked Snes classic for modern Snes gaming but for the Genesis/MD, definitely getting this.
@@retrosoul8770 I would have done but i just don't have that type of money.
Boss: Why were you in the bathroom for 20 minutes. Me: Ummm, ummm rough weekend 😓😉
DNP Guru you’re not alone in that scenario on this blessed day. 😂
Best review to the bunch.
Nice to be a CZcamsr - they just throw cool stuff on top of you.
The more I watch this the funnier it becomes. Just got mine in the mail today, considering returning it. Doesn't fart when I turn it on. Thanks GS!
The sound effects really went downhill without Dave lol
Scrolling trying to figure that out too
@@joshhall3025 well now we know :(
I really wish my Switch would make fart sounds when I select things or power it on..... maybe a custom Wario iteration will come out with Fart Functionality!!
if you mod your Switch (kinda a pain and wouldn't recommend you do it yet) you can actually change the sounds for when you attach you joy cons. Also for when you detach them lol. So.....you could actually make them different fart sounds....I kinda wanna do it now.
@@LungMing23 Oh wow lolol that would be hilarious, I have a new future goal!
What do you guys do, I just can't stop watching. 10 hours during work and after I get out, let just keep watching.
Finally picked one of these up and these config tips are perfect!
Is Dave dead? :(
WHERE IS DAVE? I WILL NOT PLAY UNTIL DAVE IS RELEASED.
Game Sack, don't ever stop. You guys are the best.
damn isn't this the best video on the topic?! so many references to recent episodes (like water damage in European games, heck yeah!!) and everything is snappy and also funny, man, great job!!
it would be cool to see you and Dave play Ultracore on Playing With Sacks, like you did with FX-Unit: Yuki!
Great review guys. I appreciate the technical tips unlike other reviewers...
Great review. Would love a part 2 were more games are displayed.
Your vid was the only one in my youtube feed. That must be because you're the best.
This is the more completely review i've ever seen (sorry for my bad english) Great episode.
Got my mega sg for Christmas and I love it and it passed the battle toads turbo tunnel test on a hd tv with a wireless controller
I've been saying for years how I miss the little fart sound effect Joe would throw in when the Game Sack dropped down in the intros, but after hearing Joe sneak in the sound all throughout this video, my faith has been restored. Thank you Senpai. I love your sense of humor. Unbelievably in-depth review you've done here.
Thanks for the informative video, Joe and all of your setting recommendations. I have been wanting to get back into playing Genesis games for awhile but had been hitting a few walls in terms of choosing a good clone console.
That ending skit. Holy crap.... I had to rewatch it a few times it had me laughing!
Game Sack is my life support! Thank you for this channel!
Really hope they add more sprites per scan line option. That’s one of the biggest things I wanted from this machine. I love seeing these old games run without flicker. Great review!
Where's the Exasperated Gamer's Mega Sg review? We need it right now!
Marco Mapps ASSSSSSSS!
I knew Joe would have actual useful advice with regards to settings and such. I was so sick of people just saying "oh it runs all these cartridges!" which isn't exactly useful, considering it's an FPGA console.
Spectacular solo bonus episode Joe, thank you! I was prepared for this to be a watered down episode but aside from no Dave this felt like the full meal deal, boy am I stuffed, now I'm gonna watch some Playing with Sacks for dessert...
Tectoy made a mega drive remake recently with original controller ports and rca output (they were the south american manufacturers back in the day)
I love this editing and music being used at 13:25!!
I just got this and the Super NT after 2 years of waiting. These consoles are awesome and have come a long way since this video’s original posting.
