As long as the vehicle is reliable . I would get it. I now drive a 2010 toyota camry LE ( 2.5 4 cylinder with the 6 speed automatic transmission. ) It isn't exciting to look at ,but damn , they are reliable! Mine only has 81,00 kilometers on it. Great first car. I drove the sedan version of the same year era/body style before i even got my license and i wanted it - my dad was gonna give it to me for my first car but his gf panicked while he was hydroplaning merging off one highway to another around a corner in the rain and pulled the e-brake. We spun 5 times luckily there were guard rails but we hit the front 3 times and the rear twice. Totaled

    I had a 95 outback wagon a few years back, scored it for $75. No joke, ran and drove. Some guy bought a new car, and I went to look at the Subaru that was listed for $500. I told the guy I didn’t have the full $500 and his wife piped up and said get it out of the yard, give him a deal. The guy said how about $75? Sold! I ran that car for 2 years before Maine would no longer sticker it due to rot but at over 200,000 miles it still ran and drove great.

    Randy, I have a 2001 Subaru Outback and they are great cars as long as the head gaskets have been replaced with the newer updated ones. Typically you can tell as they are blue and can been seen from the edges. This generation did have a recall for the rear subframe rusting out, so definitely check on that. This era was also didn't have the crappy CVT transmission. I'd do a fluid service on the transmission and on all the driveline gearboxes. Here in Michigan the rust normally claims these cars before mechanical issues. If you need more details on what to look for just ask. There's alot of us Subbie fans on your channel

      This one seems ok, but it's a ticking time bomb... For the low price (with fees probably just under $1000), though, I'd bite and change the head gaskets myself if it needs them.

      I had one of those some years ago for a winter beater. The name was a mouthful for sure...Subaru outback H6 3.0 VDC L.L. bean edition. I fixed the rear subframe with lawnmower blades. Here in the northeast they rot before they die. Thing was an animal in the snow

    • @davidkane4300
      @davidkane4300 Před 10 dny

      The 3.0 H6 is the one to get with this body style... The 2.5 is a ticking time bomb for head gasket issues, almost as bad as early Northstars, but the H6 and 2.2 are good, but unfortunately the 2.2 was only in the very lowest end Legacy (I doubt any Outbacks, and maybe no wagons had them).

    The Volvo sounds like it’s got a couple burnt wires behind the dash. The wires are making contact and when power gets sent to headlights it also energizes the Ac circuit and flasher circuit. That car might be a hell of a headache to diagnose and fix

    We used to have one of those Outbacks (in Western Australia). My missus was driving it on a smooth gravel road, and it decided to suddenly spin on her on a straight part of the track. Popped 2 tyres while spinning (luckily didn't cause it to flip when the rims dug into the gravel). She ended up with the back end in the bushes. Luckily her and kids were ok. She refused to drive it after that. The next day, with new tyres, I drove it to work, and, on dry sealed road, it spun at an intersection, almost backing into a wall. Needless to say, we got rid of it. A few months later, we saw on news, a couple hundred km's south of us, a driver died in one after it somehow left the road and rolled several times. Same colour but not our old one. From my personal experience I wouldn't get one for my own kids (but we might have just been unlucky and ours had some sort of mechanical issue). If you do get it, go over it thoroughly to make sure everything is perfect.

    • @ryanravencaller
      @ryanravencaller Před 11 dny

      I’ve taken care of 3 of that gen, they either leak or consume coolant and once it goes low its game over and you get a milkshake, my dad has has owned 5 subarus i personally checked the coolant every few fuel ups, the one i didn’t worry about cause i was told that one didn’t have head gasket issues so you didn’t have to worry? The 1999 wagon with the ej22, it blew the radiator so i replaced it, new oem clamps, and hoses, was up til midnight working on it and bleeding it, to check it and bleed it again in the morning and i even checked it the next morning to make sure it was full and no bubbles and then a week after when getting gas i just checked the overflow and level just to be 100% sure well a few weeks later, on the end of his 30 mile drive to work the heat stopped working, it started running hot as he pulled into work, he let it cool off and filled it with water to start driving home, didn’t think to check the oil to see the milkshake, surprisingly the car made it home, he took it to get an oil change and the coolant wasn’t bubbling at the moment or anything they thought he added water to the oil, well unfortunately after that when i had my old mechanic friend come look at it and confirm my head gasket suspicions and we both agreed the car wouldn’t last more than a few more drives my dad said to turn it around so it was backed in the driveway and reduced running time of the engine welllll unfortunately as soon as i put it in drive it to turn it around and back it in without even touching the accelerator it made metal on metal noises and then seized up. There was no coolant or water in the fresh oil either lol

And a 10 base model.. just used as a beater.. we get a lot of snow here in Northern Ontario. And have one 05 limited edition outback forest green. Just look out for oil leaks at the head gaskets.. or they can burn coolant..sometimes the gaskets fail and they overheat and push off the upper radiator hose.. sometimes people put worm clamps and try and sell them that way. The transmissions are usually very strong.. I’ve towed trailers about 3,500 lbs they have good torque .. but you do have to push them at 5,500 rpm up hills towing at 50 mph

    Hello Randy. The Subaru Outback is a good looking SUV. You should buy it Randy. The 1998 Chevrolet Tracker is a decent looking SUV even though it's got mold and mildew inside and other issues.

    You should really consider that subaru because those old Subarus were reliable and having a boxer engine ...... Well Nick's gonna love it.

    The newer tires would be worth the price on the Sub.

    Subaru is perfect for Nick, no power but still fun with awd and his buddies can all pile in. Too bad it isn’t a 5 speed

    That outback would be a fun, easy fixup project. The only thing I worry about is the transmission or head gaskets

    I know I'm not the only one who does this, but hearing other people pronounce TRD as Turd amuses me lol. Yes, I'm 35. Why do you ask?

    Those subarus antennas are in the rear window and they often break and get replaced with one without it or the connection breaks, aftermarket radio with Bluetooth is the best solution honestly
