Randy, doing a DIagnosis on this van is very straight forward. Its definitely not a fuel related issue. Its going to be a high pressure oil issue. The 6.0 uses a Heui system to fire the injectors, just like a 7.3 Powerstroke. It takes base oil pressure (base engine oil pressure) to make high pressure oil using a high pressure oil pump. The truck needs a minimum of 500 psi (high pressure oil) to fire the injectors. The first thing I noticed on the left side of the instrument cluster is your oil pressure guage. I noticed when you were trying to start the truck the needle didn't move at all. Normally, the needle would move to the half way position while cranking to indicate you have base oil pressure. Here, I noticed the needle wasn't moving. Be sure to check your oil level. You could very well have a base oil pressure issue. Usually on one of these engine when it fails to make base oil pressure, its usually a failed lifter and the needle bearings from the lifter make their way up in the front pump gears and trash front oil gears. If you need any help reach out to me. Thanks, Jay!
Don't forget Ford oil pressure gauges are warning lights. Either it's there or it isn't.
That said you are on the right path.
He did check the oil level
My dad had a 2003 F350 power stroke with the 6.0. He had the high-pressure oil pump go out in it and it stopped running. it is set up so if the oil pump breaks, it will not let the vehicle run anymore, so it won’t run out of oil.
Spot On. great engines, just gotta be right or cold no start.
Going be HPOP going be pain van
The good thing about the 6.0 is it's old enough that the issues and fixes are known. This bus has potential.
Man! You have a perfect canvas to create the best camper ever!!
I'd live in that thing
Lots ot people do that now and would love to convert that.... heck even I want to lol
Another, you don't see one on every channel, vehicle. Thank you for constantly bringing unique offerings to the channel. I hope your vacation is going well and is enjoyable.
That passenger check alarm system there disables the engine. There is probably another button or two in the back above each door you have to push before it will allow you to start and run the engine. Its like an electronic check list to ensure the doors and passengers are secure.
I was thinking the exact same thing about this buggy, Randy. There could be some sort of electrical component or safety switch preventing the magic from happening. Would be nice if it was a door close switch but could be a safety switch for the lift or doors. 72K on a 6.0 shouldn't be in the territory of the injection pump or oil pump. I suspect that the annoying beep could be a switch preventing you from getting it going in one video. Fingers crossed.
Actually usually this is 99% of the time a shift interlock, making It won't let you shift the bus to drive reverse or even neutral if the buttons aren't pushed. but it'll still let it run they have to do that because the passengers require AC or heat in some instances. There are some though very few that had the won't let it start option.
Let your glow plug light light up before turning over, but your problem is likely the low pressure pump. You can check the pump by unplugging the starter harness at top of engine and grounding it out on the battery with keys out of ignition first. Do this with the oil filter cap and filter out to see if the filter housing fills up with oil, if it doesn’t it’s the low pressure pump.
You can't do that on a van. The oil filter is down below in the engine because there is not enough space to put it on top with the fuel filter like in the F Series. But good tip for an F Series.
So I have 6.0 and it runs but blows white smoke maybe one of your viewers might know what it is
Yes ur right
Randy the 6.0 runs off oil pressure so if losses prime on oil pressure it take at least 500 psi to start
I own a 6.0 van only use motor craft parts on engine I believe in your case u need to check the FICM module u need 48 v at all times
Much respect to you Randy. You show the good the bad the ugly. Looking forward to part 2 . Watching from Cebu, in the Philippines 🌴🌴🌴🌴
You don't have any low pressure oil. The low pressure pump is fairly easy to change you remove the crank pulley and 4 bolts it slides right off. Your a brave man buying a 6.oh in a van! lol
As someone who is a fleet mechanic on e series shuttle buses you got a good deal on it but you need to make sure park brake is on to shut that alarm off it is a shift interlock system for the wheelchair lift second we only buy the 6.8 v10 versions I have heard the diesel in those are absolute bear to work on and even with my gas engine it is usually a motor out to do any work on them but if you have any questions I know them inside and out
I sure would try these basic tricks first. I was thinking it was related to fancy switches but it would be amazing if it was just the parking brake switch!
The idle control system allows the engine to be throttled up to run the wheelchair lift! 😊
It probably connects to the PTO wires
Had the same issue with my 6.0 i am also a diesel mechanic and on mine it was stand pipes and dummy plugs there o-rings on them that blow and cause a loss of oil pressure also do check your hpop and ipr all common issues on the 6.0
Had a F250 with a 6.0 in it... Great engine. LOTS of power and plenty of fun, WHEN it runs good. i bought it from a person who put 15k into it, i put 7k more into it, then junked it.
When these run good they run great, but when they don't you are literally throwing money away.
Had the truck for 2 years and managed to put 2k miles on it in an out of shops. Didnt even need to give it an oil change
GET RID OF THIS
Thanks Randy for bringing such a different vehicle to your channel. You are a brave man! Don’t let the truck get you down. You’ll mend this! In the meantime enjoy your vacation!
The alarm is from the Easy Lock in the back, not being locked. You can use your finger or screwdriver to lock it.
You have got to let the glow plug light go off first before you try and start it. Cycle the key a few times to get fuel in system. When you were cranking it I was hearing a dead cylinder. Need to hook a scanner up and check the oil pressure injectors need 500 to open injectors. IRP or the icp could be bad. Worse could the the high 😊pressure pump. Heck could be leaking standpipes or dummy plugs causing oil pressure problem. Best way to figure it out is take the IRP valve out and use a IRP air pressure gauge with air. If there is a leak in the system you will hear it. Van like that is super easy to get that IRP valve out. Pickups sucks. It’s actually easier to lift the cab off
Hey its the dude you met at OKC location that bought the other bus at copart in OKC. Holler when you can
Sitting here totally want this baby to start. I'm sure you'll eventually figure it our. Until then we'll all be waiting for the next video. Have a nice vacation.
You also have a gallop in the crank…. I wonder if you have a weak cyl ? Otherwise it’s probably an oil pump issue as others have said.
If they changed the oil filter with aftermarket filter the check ball inside the filter failed or they installed a filter without a check ball and spring and you lost oil pressure. Easy stuff first. Also use a vacuum hose from the cabin through the dog box and spray silicone into the air box. Yes silicone spray, or order starting fluid with lubricant inside for diesels. A diesel engine will start and run off of strait silicone spray.
Running it longer will bring up fuel pressure and oil pressure this way but change that engine oil filter and fuel filter to the correct oem filters first.
Good tip but the van oil filter does not have a check ball. It is installed upside down on the side of the engine. No need for check ball to keep it from draining down.
The Ford 6.0L Power Stroke engine is prone to high pressure oil pump (HPOP) failure, which can cause a “no start” condition
Really only the 03-04 trucks had weak pumps. The 05+ is much stronger & they don’t fail often.
When cranking you would see oil pressure on the dash gage if it was the HPOP. My money is on the IPR being bad.
@@zachsikes7869 the 05 still has stand pipes with o-rings that can tear and cause leaks
@@dustra5000 of course. I was talking about the pump itself. Personally my 05 has 260k & original dummy plugs & stand pipes & injectors & water pump & alternator & turbo etc..
@@zachsikes7869 they did beef up the 05 pumps for sure, I do believe earlier builds make more power tho, so its a red vs blue pill thing
Hi Randy, when I worked as a maintenance mechanic, somebody used starting fluid on one of these buses and the air intake exploded. I had to go get another one from the salvage yard. Luckily nobody was hurt
The button panel under the driver's dash on the right side are the controls for the ez lock wheelchair system in the back area. The button panel above the ez lock controls on the driver's side lower dash is the wheelchair lift interlock control. This system prevents the wheelchair lift from working unless the vehicle is in park with the ebrake engaged.
Randy, I have an old John Deere mower that has safety switches wired in series - i.e. all systems depend on each switch. This could very well be your best deal ever if you set the parking brake and check that the lift and door switches are happy!
Hey Randy! We had one of those when I worked for EMS. I used to work overtime driving that beast all over East Texas! ETMC would pick up patients for cancer treatments and doctor appointments then take them back home. It was easy money back in the day.
Loved the style of this video Randy. Also that was pretty cool of IAA to let you in and work on it while you did! Looking forward to the next part and really hoping that you can get it to run because it would sure sell for a lot more than you bought it for especially with such low mileage. I still see those buses being used quite frequently. You are definitely on the right path with this issue. This will be interesting in the next video!
Hello Randy. The 2006 Ford E350 is a good looking handicap bus. Let's see if you can get it running and driving.
Randy. I'm really in need to see this next episode. WHEN ?????
I'm becoming a technician at Ford and there was something on the aftermarket fuel filter and oil filters don't work the best and motorcraft is what you want to use on the Ford diesels that's what the module said
I drive these for a living, a mix of 2016 Chevy Express 4500 chassis and 2024 Ford E350 chassis. The Chevys have an El Dorado National body, the Fords are from Forest River.
The El Dorado bodies are a wiring disaster; I can see why they went out of business.
Let the Glow light turn off first,,, then make sure you purge the fuel system /top front manifold
Yeah lost. Prime
Yes that is correct 👏 👍, make sure you check the fuel filter
Oil pressure low? Check oil pressure sensor port with manual gauge. Sensor bad or no oil pressure. Good luck, look forward to seeing it running!
It's never the sensor, something else is causing the pressure issue
@@5.43v good to verify first no matter what it is. Leave gauge attached till corrected then reconnect sensor when verified problem is fixed.
Also might be something disabling it such as sensors for doors etc being a handicap equipped vehicle.
@@WthaHatchetI don't think the FICM has a Killswitch on it, watch the video the oil pressure sensor doesn't achieve 7 psi to activate. He needs to figure out why the oil pump isn't physically building pressure
Randy you should know starter fluid destroys diesel engines. Also you need to turn the key part way & wait for the glow plug light to turn off on the dash. You might've destroyed the glow plug relay trying to start it without waiting for the light. Also the plug in the front is for the engine blanket not a battery charger.
Gosh if he didn't know that he shouldn't have bought a 6.0
Hi Randy, i´m a viewer from germany and i just wanted to say that i love your videos. i can learn so much from them and i just wanted to let you know this :-) Have a good time.
Thoroughly enjoyed this video, Randy. Keep them coming.
Oh boy….Randy you couldn’t resist. Love that iAA let you do this! And love these old style will it make it home videos! Keep it up randy we love your grind!
I think that second aftermarket fuel filter is limiting flow enough to affect the pressure valve. Have a great vacation and come back fresh.
There needs to be t-shirt that says Peddle: it's a mixed bag 🤘🏽🔥😀
You’ve got hair! First time to see you without a hat! 😂
RAP module is Retained Accessory Power module PATS module is Passive Anti Theft System module. That key you have is a non PATS key. Most heavy duty vehicles ford makes don't have PATS
Unfortunately with that 6.0 engine, that van is basically worthless as a functioning van. Even if you got it running, they cost a fortune to keep them running. Problem after problem. I worked as a paramedic when those were new. Constantly they were breaking.
Great video! I’ve been there…..sometimes you just have to throw in the towel. Good luck…..you have the right mid set to deal with this.
My 6.0 did same thing and it blew a rubber washer by turbo
I think that wire come from the grill on van is for the heater block
There is a hpop valve to prevent bleed off , it could be stuck open and not building oil pressure and robbing oil pressure from the low pressure pump!
Love that shuttle bus, would make a nice cheap camper setup
You will get it Randy don’t worry still a great video.
Hey Randy if u get it started with ether and had someone to be up front win u get it running keep spraying little to get fuel up to it
I work at a place where some of the trucks you had to use a half of can of starting fluid to start them
Nope that's a bad idea, he has an oil pressure issue that needs to be fixed
Buy the ipr socket and pull it out check the screen and replace the ipr or rebuild it. If you are questioning if the icp not any good unplug the icp that can also stop you from starting it. But I’m leaning to the ipr needing to be replaced
Need to pull that panel off. That's the way the batteries come out
Randy I have to give it to you on that bus man. You we're working hard on that at copart never seen that before 👍. You took your cap off never seen your hair before but hair cut looks pretty good
The lift interlock goes to the wheelchair lift. It keeps it from operating if the trans wasnt in park and keeps you from shifting out of park if the door to the lift was open. The fast idle just does just that- revs it up so the alternator would keep those accessories running and also it spins the AC compressor to keep the suction pressure down due to the increased heat load from the passengers and cabin.
Dam Randy I'm sat here in the UK watching this video wishing I was there with you right now helping you fix that bus. I would love to get my hands on it and fix it, diesels are my speciality!!!
Try uplugging the IPR it’s an oil based system without oil pressure it won’t start the injectors work on oil pressure so if you don’t have proper oil pressure it won’t start by disconnecting the IPR it makes it go to default temporarily at least to help you get home to shop to get it repaired
Hopefully he reads your comment because I had a 2001 7.3 Do the exact same thing..
There's no base oil pressure that's not going to work
RANDY THOSE DIESEL STARTERS ARE VERY EXPENSIVE- TRY AND TO ONLY USE THE STARTER IN BURSTS NO MORE THAN 10-15 SECONDS EVEN WITH THE GEAR REDUCTION LIKE YOU HAVE! LET THEM COOL BETWEEN STARTING TRYS! THIS WILL SAVE YOU A $00+ DOLLAR STARTER REPLACEMENT- BUT I'M SURE YPU KNOW ALL THE ABOVE BEFORE I SAID THIS! IF THAT TRUCK DOES NOT PRODUCE OIL PRESSURE IT WILL NOT START. CHECK HOW MUCH OP YOU HAVE MANUALLY- THEN IF YOU DO IT MIGHT BE THE OIL PRESSURE SENDING UNIT NOT SENDING A SIGNAL TO THE ECM ALLOWING YOU TO READ OIL PRESSURE OF ENGINE! GOOD LUCK BUD! KEEP GOING YOU'LL GET IT!
You’re supposed to let the diesel warm up before you start the vehicle that’s how school bus drivers do it Randy
I've noticed that the gear shift is not showing completely in park. I had a similar situation with my sons truck when we 1st got it, I had to pull up on the shifter and turn the ignition at the same time and it started. Good luck
A no crank issue is different than a crank no start issue
GOOD work Randy. You are a better mechanic than you give yourself credit for. What oil pressure was it building while cranking? does the code reader tell you that? That is the key, if not enough you look for why. IPR? HPOP? LPOP?? (relief valve was a long shot but worth the time.)
Loving the new intro music! Keep the great videos coming.
I really surprised that you haven't poured a concrete slab and put a metal carport. I carport big enough to shelter something jumbo like that bus! Anchor that thing down good, OK wind is like IN wind. At least you won't be frying your skin to the pavement. Plus it'll be easier to use heavier lifts.
6.0L usually has oil pressure issues when it doesn't fire like that. Probably needs a new high pressure oil pump, but I'm sure there are a ton of more experienced people in the comments. Also check the coolant, as they tend to mix oil and coolant if the oil cooler fails, which is common.
Randy, seems you have an hpop problem, please check IPR valve first, and hpop itself. Depending on which generation you have, it could be round style pump, or later style the block style. From my experience, my 6.0 suffered the same issue, and I bought a new motorcraft IPR and boom. Issue solved.
no base oil pressure. gage must move some when cranking. replace base oil pump. new parts from ford are less than 200. 2 hr job. it will run after that. lifter comes apart and scores the pump gears. ive done 2 in the last six months. you can do it. i bought that same van from texas hhs in 2023. had 45k miles e450 with wheel chair lift . 6.0 . it had a relay missing in the fuse block . sold to me not running for less than 1k. was able to haul it home on my 20 ft car hauler by running blocks under the front wheels to clear the fenders.
The gauge is a yes no gauge so as long as there's at least 7 psi it will say there's oil pressure
My 6.0 had the no start condition and it needed the oil stand pipes replaced. The oring on the seal failed and the injectors will not fire. They're under the valve cover so it's a bear to get to. Something to check into. Good luck!
I own an F-350 with the 6.0 powerstroke, it could be an oil pressure problem, or it could be the FICM, the 6.0 can be finicky, good luck, I am watching.
Hey, new intro!! I like it
Love it you will figure it out I have full confidence ❤
I love how many people comment something you already did or said finish the video people lol I’m sure Randy enjoys the extra engagement
Honestly id change oil filter i had one collapse and lost oil pressure idk if that be ur problem but worth a shot
Great video,waiting for next
I think the plug coming out in front is for a block warmer. An the advanced high ldle can be used for different things we have them on our ambulances to help keep charge items an keep the batteries charged like when using emergency equipment or run the the emergency lights when sitting still.
Love this type of video. I think you want to make nice nice with a good diesel mechanic. That's what I used to do. I'd go to the dealership and find somebody wanted to make a few bucks on the side
Put a manual gauge on it to test for pressure. If no pressure replace lpop you can replace the low pressure oil pump for cheap
Randy knows, he's right, no oil pressure. ✅
Call Mike to help you out he knows his way around
you had the name right the first time its a six blow power choke and if i recall they are known for heui issues and ficm issues
Randy what are you going with this bus.its a nice bus plus I am disabled myself that bus is worth some money great deal
if he is smart get it back to running as it should then sell it.
Try adding some distilled water in the batteries and charge them. They tend to run dry after sitting.
Hi again Randy, did you check to see if there was any fuel in the bowl, and check the filter also !
Good day man just tuned in randy to watch this video and just what i need to somthing decent to watch and sit down and enjoy it to thanks randy im sure im gonna enjoy luke always fella hope you have a wonderfull bank holiday thers to man!.. 👌✨🗽✨🎭✨👍👍👍✨🏴✨
its a auction its there for a reason........ many forget that
Make sure you goto the fuel pressure pump to make sure you have pressure
Plus one thing it would need a inspection done to be used again as med transport randy , was looking at those since my mom utilize that transport for appointments due to being wheelchair bound the service sucks your at the mercy of waiting for them to show up if they due or show up early then leave cause your not outside waiting in the cold
Hi again Randy, if you look at the oil pressure gauge, it's is not making oil pressure ! The hi pressure oil pump is dead !
Ernest from Roadside Rescue CZcams channel knows all about this problem. You're video here is very reminiscent of what Ernest encountered in his bus purchase.
Randy there should be an emergency safety switch on your doors for the wheelchair lift if those doors are not secured it will not start check the safety switch to see if it's still hooked up. If not you might be able to bypass it also the double doors for passengers if that is not closed it may prevent it from starting check those as well.
Wrong... There's no ficm Killswitch from these, he needs base oil pressure to start the truck
Pull oil filter cap, crank engine. If no oil shows in housing you have no base pressure.
If housing fills base pressure is good. Pull IPR inspect screen. Suspect screen failure
IPR, dummy plug, stand pipes, HPOP, could be a million things :(
@@AutoAuctionRebuilds other comment didnt go through for some reason but
In my several hundred 6.0s I've worked on, I have never had a no start cold due to bad stand pipes or dummy plugs.
Additionally that's a late model engine, so it's using a cast iron HPOP. I've only seen 2 or 3 fail ever over the years, all 3 trucks ran and drove with the backs blown out of the HPOP, so it's not likely an HPOP failure.
The fact it wouldn't run on ether tells me the leak is massive OR it has no low pressure oil at all .
If you remove the oil filter cap and can't get any oil pressure in the housing while cranking, then your propblem is with the base oil system. Either the pickup is bad or the low pressure pump is destroyed/failed. If you have pressure in the oil filter housing, your next check is 100% the IPR.
IPR screens fail all the time on these and is the most common cause for a non start cold in the high pressure system.
If you need any help feel free to DM me I can walk you through anything, I only work on 6.0s/6.4s and can almost diagnose these things in my sleep now.
Check for fuel pressure, make sure you purge it.
It's probably got gas or water in the tank
Could be a safe switch for the back door or for the left still on
I always love Randys shit, and also Monkey Wrench Mike! Two good dudes. Randy looks spent, worn out. lol
I think its oil pressure related. Needs at least 500 psi to start. Check the sending unit and maybe oil level.
It doesn't even have base oil pressure so he needs to start with that
Is there not accesses panels inside on the floor on them ?
I’m of no help, I don’t know diesels but, that’s a cool low mileage van/bus; get it running (hopefully) and do a camper build inside it? You say that you want a camper in some of your videos so, low mileage bus is perfect!
This vehicle is absolutely perfect for someone to turn it into a fantastic camper van
Napa makes an extension to dually trucks to air up the tires. The part number is 90 329 NTH.
You should look for a rollback tow truck (Like an Isuzu NPR with a rollback uplift). This way you'd no longer have to call a tow service.
Yea I remember that booster pack from you channel
Direct power cannot be denied either is helpful to a solo man in the field with a power stroke
Packs a powerful punch, try saying that three times fast 😂😂😂😂😂
Could be several different things I’d start with a lower pressure oil pump due to no oil pressure at crank could be ipr, or icp or no ficm sync my guess is oil pressure switch or low pressure oil pump my guess probably icp failure
