No you don't have to remove it ! Mercedes can come make you a new key for a fee of course, mine was around $450!

Mercedes never come to you and make keys . You tow your car to them and make keys.

It’s not possible to pull it out from the bottom panel above the pedals? I came here looking for a tutorial but I’m not sure I want to tackle this. Also, the ignition switch isn’t recognizing my fob and it’s draining the battery. So I got a replacement switch. I won’t need to reprogram it if I’m successful in swapping them right?

You will have to program the new ignition switch to the car .

    This is not a W209. A W209 is a Mercedes CLK 2002-2008. This is C Sportcoupe W203 generation.

Then tell me why does the EIS that I pulled out from this car stayed a W209?
I’m just basing off what the EIS is stamped .

@@autopurlieu Your video title says: "How to remove the Electronic Ignition Switch EIS from 2004 Mercedes benz c230 kompressor W209". You're showing how to remove the EIS in a W203, not a W209. I really appreciate people like you helping others, and I'm just correcting your title to help you having a more accurate video.
In the W209 the EIS removal method is completely different from this one. You just need to remove the cover below the steering column and you have access to the EIS in 1 minute.
So, for people looking how to remove the EIS in a W209, they get scared of all that work, when in fact It's extremely simple and fast.
And by the way, If that car has an EIS from a W209, someone messed hard with that car eletronics. The EIS used in the CLK W209 is only used in the 2006+ E-Class W211 and the A-Class W169.
The W203 (your car) uses the same EIS as the G-Class W463 and the Vito W639.

😂 the car itself was acquired for less than $800, with less than 100kmiles on the clock. I think it’s worth getting a key programmed. That’s all it needs and back to the road.
