  • In this video we explain how to replace the belt on a Dual 505 turntable.
Please note: a turntable is a very sensitive piece of equipment, if you do not feel comfortable with the technical aspect of your record player, please refrain from making these adjustments to prevent damage. If you do proceed and damage your turntable or cartridge, we cannot be held accountable.

A perfect example of a well made, clear CZcams guide. A lot of effort made to make it so clear and concise. Thank you.

I cannot thank you enough for this BRILLIANT tutorial. I have had real problems with my Dual 505-4 recently and really wasn't sure what to do. I was reluctant to buy a replacement as I have owned my 505 from new since 1984 and I am sentimentally attached to it! It has been very temperamental when switching from 33 rpm to 45 rpm and typically did not change speed but stayed at 33 rpm. Today was a new problem altogether though as when I returned the switch to 33rpm from 45 rpm, it would only rotate at about 5 rpm. It would though play a 33rpm record correctly when I clicked the switch to 45 rpm. I followed your instructions and found the belt was still on the spindle but had twisted somehow - I untwisted it and tested the different speeds and all now works perfectly. I am so grateful - why the belt was twisted though remains a mystery. If it happens again, I now know what to do but wonder if you know what might have caused the belt to twist on itself? Thanks so much again

My belt is rubbing i side the plastic guide fork, so watching your video I now know what to do about it. Very helpful, thank you! 😊

I have a similar CS 508 that uses a similar drive system. every time the "shark fin" on the platter support rotates, it hits a spring loaded part on the end of another spring loaded plastic arm. These parts are different colors on my unit but I can see they are the same design on your turntable. What is the function of this mechanism and how can I adjust or fix it so the shark fin does not (very slightly) hit every time it revolves? I believe this is some kind of pre-selector for when the speed is changed while the turntable is off but that is just a guess.

      Hi Michael,
It is difficult to say what the exact reason is without seeing the turntable. What I’ve come across often is dried out grease, that causes moving parts to stick.
If you decide to clean and replace make sure you use the exact right type of grease, since the wrong types can destroy the plastic.

Can you tell me the belt size for the smaller second belt. I also need to replace that and could use some direction on that. 505-3 audiophile concept. Needle as well. I haven’t found either of those in searching.
Want to fix my husbands for his birthday.

These cartridges can be found on eBay. The model number is Dual TKS 45E. It’s designed specifically for this arm type.

Dear Marco, you can try cleaning and lubricating the black plastic construction next to the inner platter (where the notch and on the spinning plate hits).

Unfortunately my belt won't go down on the spindle after changing speed from 33 to 45 rpm. It is stuck halfway. Any suggestions? Also try a new belt, but the same issue.
