    Thank you for an excellent instructional video. As someone who watches many DIY videos and also as someone who owns several Dual turntables, your very complete and well produced tutorial is much appreciated.

    I replaced mine with a piece of rubber eraser from the end of a pencil. I measure the diameter of the metal peg, drilled a hole in the eraser, cut it off and stuck it on top of the metal peg, works great.
    Great video, very clear and well explained, especially your disassembly and handling method, thank you so much for sharing !

    At 08:25 -- The first action should be to cycle the table in automatic mode with the arm locked on the tonearm. This re-synchronizes, or re-homes, the movements. This instruction is found in the service manual on page 15, last paragraph. I would not consider any adjustments until this step is performed.

    Thank u for this helpful video!!
    Thanks to this video I was able to fix my Dual CS435. The tone arm didn't go back all the way but went back down halfway through the record.
    I was using it like that for more than 2 years. I bought it second hands for less than a case of beer, knowing it had some issues.. but i was never able to fix this. Then I ran into this video and thought.. would my model have such a pimple? and yes my "newer" model Dual record player also has a steuerpimpel.. or rather, it had one. a very very small one.. and it was broken into a few pieces.
    I couldn't find one that small anywhere online and ended up using a piece of a ballpoint pen and now finaly everything works great again!!

    hi @ArtOfVinyl Turntable Repairs, i have two Dual turntables, the 505 and the 650 rc, but both have the same problem, the platter doesn't stop at the end of the album. for the 505 i know that it hasn't auto-return but i read somewhere that it should stop the platter and lift the arm by itself at the end (not sure if its true) but the 650 its a semi-automatic so it should auto-return. Have u any idea of what could cause this issues and how to solve it?
    Thank you very much

    H, I found your channel and I need to ask for your help. I have a DUAL 1256 and the tonearm lift lever is not working, I opened and check but everything seams ok, don't know if I can but any new part or if you could be so nice to make a tutorial how to fix that thing. I live in Germany so if I need to buy any part would be not a big deal to send from the NL (or I least I hope). Thanks for your help

    Awesome video, managed to repair the auto start/stop on my Dual 601! Do you know how to exactly adjust the position at which the automatic start function starts? It goes a bit too far in my case, starting around half way through the first song of a LP.

    • @ArtOfVinylTurntableRepairs
      @ArtOfVinylTurntableRepairs  Před 3 lety

      That sounds like the 45 rpm stop isn't moving properly anymore. Behind the steuerpimpel at 3:47 in the video is a black plastic thing that is also pushed down by the lever that controls the steuerpimpel. Try checking if it still has its spring attached (remember its position), take it oil and clean and oil it. Should be good to go :)

    adjustable hedshell is from a dual recordchanger turntable , pronaly the 1249 ....

    • @ArtOfVinylTurntableRepairs
      @ArtOfVinylTurntableRepairs  Před 3 lety

      Yes, the adjustable headshell type is actually from the first record changer in the 1200 series, the 1209. In later models (1219, 1229 and 1249) this was changed to a design that adjusts the height of the tonearm bearing housing.

    Hello.
    I am wondering if your steuerpimpel would fit a Dual 1237 belt drive model? I had to buy a replacement (got two of them, wasn't sure why), and they didn't work too well. They were made of rubber, the mould they came out of clearly wasn't great, and as a result, the tone arm would cycle to the start groove on the record, and then jut out a bit before the stylus landed. I ended up, after many frustrating hours, having to cut one of them in half. It worked until it popped off the metal post (on my model, the steuerpimpel is on the underside of the turntable, upside down). I took the second one then, and several more frustrating hours of trying to file down the bloody thing, I then cut this in half as well, but instead of the tip being preserved, I clipped it so the shaft was used, and the tip was discarded. It works! But...I like having correct parts, not make shift bush repairs done on my equipment, so I'm hoping your product (which looks a damned sight better than the junk I ended up with) will fit my turntable, and leave me with several more years of listening enjoyment in the process. I am in Canada, does your shop deal with North America? Thank you for your time.

      Dude, there is an abundance of poor quality chineese manufactured ripoff pimples out there. I have stopped using them and now just use a 4mm piece of 14 guage speaker wire housing. Works perfectly and is free.

  • @Reflectiveness
    @Reflectiveness Před rokem

    Only problem was it appeared as though the stylus cantilever suspension failed, given it bottomed out when you lowered the tonearm. Either that, or your tracking force was too much.

    hello thanks for videos, i have learn too much because of you, i have problem with my 1219. tonearm doesn't drop correct position on 7 inch records. 12 inch record there is no problem. start an end points are correct. where should i look?

    • @ArtOfVinylTurntableRepairs
      @ArtOfVinylTurntableRepairs  Před 4 lety +2

      Umut Poyrazoğlu thank you for your message. I’d recommend you to start with the multiplay sleeve, which is underneath the tonearm. I am planning to make a video about this, but it might take a while.
      For now reading through the service manual will have to suffice. If you find it, it is highly likely that the rubber has hardened over time and it doesn’t correctly pull the tonearm into the correct position anymore when switch the single (s)/multi(m) lever. This can cause drag on the tonearm. Next to this, the steuerpimpel might need replacing but you’ve probably already seen this :)
      The parts are both available on my website.

    • @ArtOfVinylTurntableRepairs

      It is located in the same position as this one. Only taking the platter off is a bit different in your model.

  • @spacemissing
    @spacemissing Před 2 lety

    Removing the cartridge should be done First.
    And a 701 doesn't need / shouldn't have a carrier with single/multi settings. Those are for small-platter changer models Only.

    I had my repair guy in Long Island (who specializes in Dual) tell me that he got rid of the old steuerpimpel and now there's no anti skate option on my turntable, but not to worry. He said it didn't matter. Your thoughts?

    • @ArtOfVinylTurntableRepairs
      @ArtOfVinylTurntableRepairs  Před 2 měsíci

      The mechanism for the anti-skating is close to the steuerpimpel. It might have been touched in the process of replacing the steuerpimpel.
      This is not supposed to happen when replacing the steuerpimpel.
