- Welcome! These clips are from a large video collection that is now being converted from VHS/Beta to digital many from the 70's, 80's and 90's. If I know the original air date/year I will post it.
There is some viewing quality loss from the original video source due to the age of the tapes, but the performances are preserved and still a joy to view. I'm finding many lost performances from vintage R&B, Soul, Pop, Broadway, Cabaret and other performances. This channel will be the Ed Sullivan channel for the digital generation, something for everyone to enjoy. Many of the performances will be seen for the first time since they were originally televised. I will be adding many musical performances from a variety of sources that I hope you will enjoy. If I am not mistaken, this is from the pre-PBS TV show "Soul! out of New York which aired October 20, 1971 in which LaBelle were joined by Mrs. Georgia Jackson (mother of slain Soledad Brother George Jackson), and the band Mandrill. "Soul!" gave the group their first national exposure, both as Patti LaBelle and the Blue Bells and as Labelle, as well as New Birth, Earth, Wind & Fire, The Last Poets, Ashford & Simpson, Black Ivory, Nikki Giovanni and James Baldwin, numerous jazz greats and many others. Simply amazing!! I have my 14 year old daughter listening and loving them. To be able to sing through tears… it’s so hard and yet mama Patti didn’t miss a beat… I love the richness in each of their voices. So clear, strong, and soothing… thank you for this video as well as the others my friend.

I'm legit watching this episode of "Soul" right now.
I found out that all of the episodes of Soul will be shown in sequence starting in mid April. I can’t wait. So many wonderful live performances by Ashford and Simpson, Gladys Knight, Stevie Wonder, the a Three Degrees, Jerry Butler, Labelle and many others.
Also, there will be a screening of the documentary Mr. Soul which is about the show and its producer, Ellis Haizlip and it will be shown on PBS on 2/22/21 at 10pm. It is an award winning documentary that is currently nominated for two 2021 NAACP awards.

Somehow I was able to get in touch with Ellis Haizlips niece, Melissa Haizlip who didn’t know me from Adam but was very kind and answered all of my questions.
