Welcome! These musical clips are from a large video collection that is now being converted from VHS/Beta to digital. There is some viewing quality loss from the original video source due to the age of the tapes, but the performances are preserved and still a joy to view. I'm finding many lost performances from vintage R&B, Soul, Pop, Broadway, Cabaret and other performances. This channel will be the Ed Sullivan channel for the digital generation, something for everyone to enjoy. Many of the performances will be seen for the first time since they were originally televised. I will be adding many musical performances from a variety of sources that I hope you will enjoy. When Patti LaBelle performs, she makes love to her music. She becomes enthralled. She loses her senses of the physical and makes contact with God.
In her day she was untouchable. She put so much emotion and feeling into her singing! Her vocal range was outstanding. She's the only one that can sing a song in a different key and still sound good.
And carry you with her!
Pulled, pressed, hair layered, face beat, all to leave it on that stage and walk off soul bared! She’s amazing!!
Committed to many great causes - UNCF, Live Aid, Diabetes, Cancer, AIDS, the LGBT community, adoption and more.... her GIVINGNESS is A- MAZ-ING! I should also mention all the her RESCUE mission- she literally saved so many bound to be boring award and TV tribute shows from being " Meh!"
Bette may have had that great hit but Patti has been KILLING this song since 81 if not just before.
According to history, she actually was one of the first to record it, but for some reason, like with IF YOU DONT KNOW ME BY NOW, Gamble and Huff didn't let her release it. No real clue what that was about.
It was a Hit because of the Movie "Beaches". This was the Main Soundtrack Song for the Movie Performed by Bette Midler.
Love this Version....and I love Lou Rawls and Glady's version of "Hero" too, all versions way before it was changed to Wind beneath my Wings.

No it isn't. Upper belting range is gone and has been for some time although this isn't unexpected at her age. Doesn't do any service to anyone to pretend her voice hasn't declined. The only singer of that generation whose voice has remained intact is Gladys Knight.
When your voice is so powerful that you can back away from the mic and still be heard very clearly, that is serious power. Patti did that at the Live Aid performance in front of thousands of fans and could still be heard very clearly. She moved the crowd to the point of shaking with excited.
I know. The crowd at Live Aid - some 100,000 people, mind you - was besides themselves with amazement!
She also is audible with all the people clapping and cheering

She is probably one of the only soul Sanger's that could sing without the aid of a 🎤 and still be hear. The Bluebelles were a mess in the 60's for their antics. Maybe this is the reason the music industry did them dirty back in the 60's-70's
Because they didn't know what to do with blood and guts sanging. For heavens sake Patti had the ability to shadder glass😮. They had no competition or equal when it came to sanging ( in the realm of the female singing groups)
Not to mention in the 70s LaBelle was the first female rock band in the history of R&B to perform ANYWHERE!... Gold albums don't mean nothing if it can be undone with one.

there is a young lady whose username is "AshleySaysSo"...and she has her own podcast on CZcams that Im subscribed to. And she recently did a podcast on Patti LaBelle, wherein she praises Patti for being the kind of singer that was WAY ahead of her time, even when she was singing in the 60s...and she went on to draw comparisons to Kelly Price, KeKe Wyatt and Whitney Houston, as the singers that Patti should be compared to...and not women like Diana Ross and Martha Reeves, who both made their bones as "60s type singers". I happen to love Diana...and Ive met Mrs Reeves once (in a gay club of all places..on a drag night, where she was there supporting a trans-performer who was a friend of hers, from the DC area)..but truth be told, NONE OF THESE WOMEN should be compared to Patti LaBelle in her prime.....when she was at the top of her game, she was untouchable. There wasn't a man or woman in the business, who could send her to the exit signs when they showed up.
There are a lot of singers who have sold more records than Patti (altho' her 50 million sold, aint nuthin to play with)...but when it comes to pure, standing on two feet, with "no gimmicks, and sound effects and trickery-singing", no one eclipses what Patti brought to the table. Not Fantasia, not a KeKe, nor a Kelly or anybody off the top of my head. Aretha Franklin, to quote Gladys Knight "was the breaker"..she paved a way for women like Patti LaBelle, to sing in venues and settings that did not see popular black female singers, come thru often if at all...and we all can admire the vocal talent of Ms Franklin. But she wasn't this version of Patti, that you see in this footage...not by a damn sight.
